More gingerbread houses, anyone?

We've spent a busy week with gingerbread. It was messy, but fun. All three are entered in a local gingerbread house competition later today.

Hello Gabi - I have wanted to reply, but hadn't had a moment to get the picture uploaded! My son and I attend a Community Ed "class" which sponsors gingergbread house making! This is his third year. His houses have lasted many months...of course we don't eat them, but he loves to look at them. They have the houses already put together for us, individual bowls of icing, and then a buffet line of candies and each child goes through the line and chooses what they want to use to decorate their house and "property"! They can go back for seconds too! Each child also has a tube of NECCO wafers. I think the key is to have everything all lined out ahead of time. We did buy a kit of cookie cutters for each piece of a house that also work well and have done our own, but going to the class is a lot easier and not as expensive (i.e. left over candy that we all don't need to eat!). s-kit, I am not sure I understand what your friend had, I am guessing it was a free standing little house of felt. Our eldest child is working for an Israeli company, and spending much time in Israel and Europe! Technically working from home…ha! Princess the younger, aka Dr. TSFP, has been living in the Gingerbread Cottage whilst the Garaj Mahal has been under construction. Working within walking distance of the Garaj Mahal. We have a busy August planned, our annual Lobstahfest is on Saturday, and two weeks later the extended family arrives…Miss Peanut and her entourage, including her Pop-pop (Beloved’s evil twin, Skippy), and his latest fiancée….and Beloved’s sister (we are true sisters because our mothers’ only provided us with brothers!) who is dropping her youngest at Berklee in Boston.

Today my little granddaughter and I went to an annual gingerbread house decorating at a local restaurant. They provide the house, and lunch, and tons of candy, and tubes of frosting, and you decorate. I also took my 3 year old granddaughter this year. They had a blast. Of course they were adorable, but no prize winners. Just cute little creations that they could be proud of.
I love yours. Hope you take all the prizes!

Thanks for the nice compliments. We did each win our categories, but there really weren't that many entrants. It was a fun day, and the best part is that my kids' houses will be displayed in our village shops.

Wow, those are some very nice houses, I'm not at all surprised that they won. I especially liked the coocoo clock.

Makayla and I made a Disney Princess castle and Bud and I made Lightning McQueen out of gingerbread but they sure don't look like that. They look like they were made by a 3 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. (grin)

And that's my excuse.....

All of them are really nice, but I think the boys had a great idea that they did quite well. It must have been kind of hard to transport that one. Smiles. Congratulations to all of you.

Amazing! I'm not going to show the gb Beau and I made today after your masterpieces. BUT, we had so much fun.

QUESTION: We made the house for the kiddie table at the Christmas Eve party and I want the kids to enjoy it. How does one eat a gingerbread house??
