Mosquitoes, before it's upon us. Bat houses??
Comments (19)Hi Jane, New Paltz! This IS nice! You wouldn't have some spare bat guano about, would you? I'm pretty sure they live in my old, disused chimney, they used to come in sometimes, before the old vent-hole was sealed, and spook us with their silent flight. I used to worry about rabies when my daughter was a baby. Maybe I could collect some guano off the front porch roof, come to think of it.. Thanks for the tip! Oldroser, I'll try the High falls place, unless the ones at Lowes are ok. We'll put it/them under the eaves of my factory building, facing west. Fairly easy to get to and high up enough. And then for some guano.. If this doesn't make a difference I'm considering a "Magnet". I deeply need to sit in the new pergola evenings and plot the next shrubbery....See MoreGingerbread and mint Christmas pics from Nutmeg
Comments (10)Thank you all for your lovely welcome and your sweet comments. I too, can look at Christmas decos all year long! The lighted gingerbread house and couple I purchased at an after Christmas sale, I think they are supposed to be yard decorations, but they`re a little small and delicate for outside use. I have a collection of cookie cutters, but only a few would fit on that shelf. The 'Home is where the Cookies Are' dishtowel was found on Ebay years ago.The pastel gingerbread men are Lenox, they release a new gbread ornament each year, I`m only missing 2 of them I think. Would like to complete that collection some day. I didn`t take a pic of the matching cookie jar, but I just love it. I don`t usually care for the fuzzy garland type garlands, but found that red and white one on sale and grabbed it, I think it goes really well. The same with the red and white round glass ornaments. They were dirt cheap and I think I squealed when I saw them, lol. I have enough cookie/candy related ornaments to probably do 3 trees. It`s just finding the time and the room to display them...maybe NEXT year! Again, thank you all! You are all experts judging by your photos, thanks for being kind to my little decos! Comments (7)I've had this saved for quite a while, it came from a friend who is a mad crafter. She swears it is the sturdiest recipe she has ever used. Good Luck! Alexa Gingerbread Construction Dough (aka Oven Plywood) 12 cups pastry flour 2 tbsp ground ginger 2 tbsp ground cinnamon 2 tbs ground cloves 2 tsp ground nutmeg 1 tsp salt 2/3 cups lemon juice 2 eggs beaten 2 egg yolks beaten 1/2 cup butter 1 1/3 cups honey 3 1/3 sugar If using a small kitchenaid mixer you will want to divide this recipe up. It will be too big for the mixer. Sift flours together to blend, set aside Combine spices, set aside Combine lemon juice and eggs in another bowl, set aside. Melt butter, honey and sugar over medium heat. Stir until butter and honey are melted and then add sugar. Continue to combine- the sugar does not need to dissolve. Remove from heat. While butter/honey mixture is still warm, place in mixer bowl, add lemon juice and egg mixture. Mix until well blended using paddle attachment. Slowly add the flour and spice mixtures. Dough will be sticky at first, and then becomes very stiff as you continue adding the flours. Knead the dough until it makes a smooth ball. Keep the finished dough at room temperature, cover with plastic wrap. The dough is very difficult to roll if it becomes too cool/cold. If the dough cools down, you can wrap it in plastic wrap and microwave for 15-20 seconds at a time. This re-heats the honey slightly and makes it easier to handle. Dust the rolling surface and rolling pin, roll to desired thickness. Cut pieces and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes for 1/4â thick, 20-25 minutes for 3/8â thick. Check pieces- different sizes may need different settings....See MoreFALL is upon us... "seasonal thread"... PART 4
Comments (229)Hi Lavender! It’s been a while since I’ve seen anything from you. Merry Christmas, and great to hear from you. Diane, I did order Boscobel from them last year. It’s sure worth requesting a catalogue, if you don’t get one. Mine just arrived yesterday, so maybe some are still on their way? It’s 172 pages without the index, and loaded with gorgeous pictures. I just wish I could get my hands on the DA florist roses, as plants. I know they aren’t meant for home gardeners, but I’d sure like to give it a try. They are absolutely incredible. I’ll see if I can get a picture of a page without disturbing my little lap friend:) ‘Charity’ is so unique with her little green pip. Either this one or the next are my favorite. This one, ‘Edith’ might be my favorite. Those antique gold centers are so beautiful! Here’s one more picture. I love the ruffles in ‘Beatrice’. I don’t know why I’m drooling over the couple pages of roses that we CAN’T order for the garden. They’re just irresistible to me. I think ‘Edith’ could be one of the DA roses my niece, Jenna, used in her wedding last year. It sure looks like it. Jenna used lots of warm colors, while Sarena,(the recent pictures I posted) used more subtle colors. They both used lots of gorgeous DA roses, but very different from each other. I hope everyone gets their DA catalog soon. I think it’s the best edition they’ve ever sent me, but I haven’t been getting them for all that many years. I’m impressed by nice selection of non-DA roses, as well. This “Index By Color”, at the end of the catalog is a nice feature, although it doesn’t include all the DA roses they offer. Evelyn and Bishops Castle aren’t in this index. It’s a great way to see color graduation, and I appreciate that they mixed in non-DA roses. It would be a great tool for designing a bed. Too bad it’s too late any new designs around here. I mostly just winged it, and they are where they are...... Lisa...See Moredsimber
