Gingerbread and mint Christmas pics from Nutmeg

Hi folks, first time posting in this forum. I hang out in the Hosta forum usually. Thought I would share a few pics of my Christmas decos. I have a thing for gingerbread men and red & white mints, when it comes to Christmas decorating. I am constantly in awe of the amazing pictures and ideas you all come up with! Thank you all for being so inspiring!

I love the way you used the gingerbread men and red and white mints. Everything looks so bright and cheerful! The tree is darling. The red and white ornaments are perfect with the mints. Great job!!

we inspired you to come out and play with us!! We love new friends...and we love pictures. I enjoyed seeing yours.
All your decorations are adorable. I like how you put that shelf up over your sink with the lights..and the nice collections you have displayed there. Did you make the lighted Gingerbread house and also the couple? They're very cute. Looks like you have some vintage cookie cutters and other things mixed in with your decorations. I like that look. I loved the little cloth with the saying...
'Home is where the Cookies Are'! Did you make that?
Cute, Cute Peppermint tree. Do you have it displayed in your Kitchen? I wish I had space for a Kitchen tree like that. So many of the ladies here have them..and I have serious 'Kitchen Tree Envy' !!
Once again, I'm so glad you posted your decorations. I could look at Christmas deocs all yr long. Hope you join us...and we get to see more of you here.

Janie, I made these this past Christmas. I saw instructions on another board. After poking a hole in the top of each gingerbread cookie with a wooden skewer, it said to bake them at 200 degrees for 4 hours. However, some people said that when they used these instructions, that their cookies fell apart, so I cooked mine at 200* for 3 hours. I used the pointed end of the skewer to make the hole. On the front of the box, it said that the cookies were "soft", but I thought mine were pretty hard, so the pointed end helped get the hole through. After baking and cooling, I dipped them in melted parafin wax, and laid them on waxed paper to dry. I used red satin ribbon for hanging. The cookies already have red and green sugar sprinkled over the thin coat of white frosting, so I didn't decorate them at all. Someone said they put a small strip of red fleece around the necks of their ornies. I hung mine on our tree early in December, and when we took the tree down in January, my cookies still looked perfect and smelled great. I chose not to save the ornaments, as I didn't want a food item in my storage area. I think they could have been frozen in a protective plastic container, and could have been saved for next year. My only complaint was that out of 2 boxes of 8 of the gingerbread cookies, I had only 7 that were not broken when I took them out of their little individual cellophane packaging. Good luck!

Lynn...it so nice to see your Christmas pictures. You did such a fabulous job on all your decorations, and your home looks so warm and inviting. Your trees and mantels are done so beautifully. Emily did such a great job on the Christmas Village and Nativity, and the Gingerbread house looks great. I see you even got to make those wonderful breads together. Just reading and looking at everything, gave me the sense of a very relaxing Christmas. You had the right idea. Seems we tend to put too much into all the 'fuss' that the simple enjoyment of it gets lost, and before you know it, it's over. I'm glad you got to share this with us. jane

Hello Gabi - I have wanted to reply, but hadn't had a moment to get the picture uploaded! My son and I attend a Community Ed "class" which sponsors gingergbread house making! This is his third year. His houses have lasted many months...of course we don't eat them, but he loves to look at them. They have the houses already put together for us, individual bowls of icing, and then a buffet line of candies and each child goes through the line and chooses what they want to use to decorate their house and "property"! They can go back for seconds too! Each child also has a tube of NECCO wafers. I think the key is to have everything all lined out ahead of time. We did buy a kit of cookie cutters for each piece of a house that also work well and have done our own, but going to the class is a lot easier and not as expensive (i.e. left over candy that we all don't need to eat!). The salt dough do look like the real thing and are very cute! Thank you for suggesting them as an alternative, holly and christmascandy! Do you both only post in the holiday forum? :) I will keep it in mind for next year. I have all the ingredients for the cookies and wanted the spicy aroma. I believe there's also a recipe for cutout ornaments using an applesauce cinnamon dough. Too much cinnamon can be a bad thing though, like those cinnamon pine cones at the grocery store. I'm baking standard gingerbread and will roll them thinner--thank you, party_music. I plan to decorate them with royal icing and cinnamon redhots for buttons. Will definitely plan on eating them! My dried citrus slices didn't work out. I don't have a microwave so I had to dry them in the oven. My "warm" setting wasn't low enough to prevent them from browning on the edges and where they sat on the metal rack. I could probably find dried citrus at a craft store, but I'll probably just string them with cinnamon sticks and maybe try drilling a hole through nutmeg. My jar of whole nutmeg is probably ten years old so I may as well try it. I also saw you can dry kumquats and thought they'd look nice strung. This is where I was going, except with real cookies.

It's so nice that you joined us here, like Jane said, we love Christmas year round. All your gingerbread and candy decor is darling and it looks like your green kitchen is the perfect back-drop for them. Are those pastel gingerbread men in the first pic, I have a thing for pastels. I love the frosty peppermint wreath too. We're here for all the hoidays, be sure to drop back in.

Your kitchen decorations are so cute. Love the gingerbread and mint theme. That is a great kitchen tree. Where ever did you find the fuzzy garland? Boy! It sure goes with the mints.

I like the cookie saying too. Couldn't make out the last word. Jane has better eyes, I think. Was it on a cloth or a cap? So cute nestled there between the gingerbread couple.

So nice that you shared your pics with us, Nutmeg. Like Jane said, we love new friends and new pics. ;o) I've always had a soft spot for gingers, just such cute little smiling faces. Great idea pairing them with the peppermints. Loved your ornaments, I've not seen any like that--were they a lucky find? Hope you will come back and visit with us more. Luvs

Thank you all for your lovely welcome and your sweet comments. I too, can look at Christmas decos all year long! The lighted gingerbread house and couple I purchased at an after Christmas sale, I think they are supposed to be yard decorations, but they`re a little small and delicate for outside use. I have a collection of cookie cutters, but only a few would fit on that shelf. The 'Home is where the Cookies Are' dishtowel was found on Ebay years ago.The pastel gingerbread men are Lenox, they release a new gbread ornament each year, I`m only missing 2 of them I think. Would like to complete that collection some day. I didn`t take a pic of the matching cookie jar, but I just love it.
I don`t usually care for the fuzzy garland type garlands, but found that red and white one on sale and grabbed it, I think it goes really well. The same with the red and white round glass ornaments. They were dirt cheap and I think I squealed when I saw them, lol. I have enough cookie/candy related ornaments to probably do 3 trees. It`s just finding the time and the room to display them...maybe NEXT year!

Nutmeg, I'm late for the party but agree with all the above comments from everyone. Your Gingerbread Cookie Jar is to die for. It's the cutest one I've ever seen. So happy you have joined us here and are sharing pictures.

Hi Nutmeg, and a warm welcome to you. I loved seeing your pictures, and hope you stick around. Gingerbread and Peppermints, what a delightful combo to decorate with! I especially loved your tree!

Hope you find the other Lenox ornaments to complete your collection. Check eBay as now Christmas is over, bargains can be found. I get quite a bit during the summer, to add to my Lenox-Mikasa Christmas collection.

Its great to have another Christmas lover here!
