Nice list. I have seven of the books. Guess I have some shopping to do!

My BHG cookbook is from 1967 ... don't have any of these. I do have James Beard "On Bread", which I love.

I have #1, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 17. I just realized I don't have #20. In fact, I don't have any books by Julia Child.

I have 6,7,8,10,17 & 20. But really I have the earlier editions of 'Joy' and 'Silver'. Does that count? I used to have an old James Beard Bread Book but not sure if it is still in the collection. Most of my cookbooks have not been unpacked since the remodel. I have to wait til the floors are done : (

Currently on my shelf: Bittman x 3; Fanny (of course) Joy, Mario x 2, The Greens by -Madison & -Espe Brown, "the girl & the fig" by Sondra Bernstein, Italian Slow and Savory by Joyce Goldstein, Verdura (another Italian Veg. book) and a few others hardly worth mentioning. I miss my collection, boo-hoo : (

I have #3, 7, 8, 9 and 17. I thought I had #20 but I don't see it in my collection, I may have just borrowed it from the library. I do have her Baking book though which is wonderful and has the most tempting pictures.

Shucks, I had a number of those on the list but they were ousted during the Great Cookbook Purge of '02. I saved mostly regional books that I collected during 15 years of business trips. I guess that's a commentary on how much insight I have on stellar cookbooks.

Mustangs: Just because they won an award doesn't mean they are the only 'stellar' cookbooks. I bet you have a few 'stellars' in your collection still.

I've used quite a few cookbooks and enjoyed them that weren't on that list.

I have an old copy of Joy of Cooking, in fact, I have 2 old copies, one was a gift from my parents when I got married, and the other I inherited from my mother when she passed away. What's fun about it is that it's stuffed full of hand-written recipes and cut-out-of-the-newspaper recipes that she collected over the years. It's kind of funny, since she didn't like to cook, but I now use her copy more than mine, because mine is worn out and hers is still in pretty good shape.

I also have #9 and #19, both of which have given me many good recipes.

I have 13 of them, but this one..The Modern Art of Chinese Cooking: Techniques and Recipes by Barbara Tropp...was one that got sent to the great book sale collection because it made me realize I really didn't want to cook Chinese food. Eat it yes, cook it no.

One I've really liked is the MS Hors d. book. I ended up buying a used copy of the original one just cause I liked the looks of it, as opposed to the paperback version.

Some of my favorites are missing. Still: 1, 2, 3, 7. 8. (Hated this joy of cooking edition), 12, 17 (earlier ed.), 19 (earlier ed), 20.

I only have two but let's celebrate diversity. I purged a lot of my cookbooks toward a good cause, clinic garage sale. The best cookbook is the Cooking Forum, don't you think?

I have 12 and most of them are ones I ugo to on a regular basis for recipes or ideas. i still have Barbara Tropp's book but I agree, I love eating Asian but really don't want to cook it.

I only have the Silver Palate book, but several more are on my wishlist.

I have various editions of 3,7 and 8 but thanks for this list. Several here sound tempting, and the fact that they made the list should be a pretty good recommendation. Santa....!
