Broken Kohler Cast Iron Sink

unavailable

We have been remodeling our kitchen for the past two months and have gotten great advice from this site. I finally have problem that I can't find another posting to answer.

After spending countless hours installing our expensive new Kohler, apron-front 36" cast iron/porcelein sink on a wooden base, and having our granite installed over it two days ago-disaster! It had a spontaneous "pop-off" of the porcelein on the apron front, exposing the cast iron.

According to Kohler "engineering" it is a rare phenomenon caused by a defect in the manufacturing. They will send me a new sink ($1200) and "possibly" some money for "reasonable" installation. The problem is that the sink is installed like a fortress. We weren't planning on removing it! The engineer says that's not her problem, and we should have followed their installation instructions more closely.

Has anyone ever experienced pop-off? Is there any way to fix the missing porcelein? Any recommendations on removing my sink.
