Scratch on Kohler cast iron apron front sink
Comments (8)Thank you, everyone. We are meeting with the builder tomorrow and I am going to do that "point and ask." I want to hear their suggestions and remedies. My biggest problem now is that I doubt I can get another granite slab to replace this countertop if anything happens while trying to put in a new sink. We picked 2 consecutive numbered slabs for the kitchen after we looked at all the others in the lot. The 2 we picked were very well matched in color tone and movement but the others all looked a bit off from what we wanted. Advertguy, it isn't a dent, but a scratch in the glazing and I can feel it by running my fingernails across the surface. I will have to say that the plumber was definitely not superman but had a super big gut. The picture I have is of him leaning across the sink to adjust the pull out on the faucet and then swiveling to reach a tool. It's putting a shiver up my spine just thinking about it....See MoreAnyone's experience with Kohler's cast iron enamel kitchen sinks
Comments (36)I've always had Kohler cast iron sinks in all of my kitchens. Cast iron has always felt so fresh and welcoming to work in, certainly in comparison to a stainless steel sink. SS always seems like a dark-dingy hole in the countertop, with lots of water/grease spots--unless it was recently cleaned with Barkeeper's Friend and buffed dry. My appologies to the many folks who own stainless steel sinks, SS definitely has its advantages over cast iron in some areas, but so does cast iron over SS. It's a matter of pros and cons and personal preferrence. Anyway, my first cast iron sink was ancient and dull, so I had to use an abrasive scrub on it with plenty of bleach to clean it up for company. As for the many new sinks I've owned, I've use a non-abrasive scrub with or without bleach. I also use sink grates, which eliminates the black marks from rubbed metal objects--not to suggest that the black marks are permanent, but black marks are definitely a worry when you want your sink to look pristine at all times. None of the many cast iron sinks that I've owned have ever chipped or cracked. I've broken many drinking glasses until I got sink grates....See MoreCrack in brand new Kohler cast iron whitehaven sink - help!
Comments (12)@Stax, how about an example, instead of just a damning, blanket statement? We renovated our kitchen nearly 4 1/2 years ago. Two plus years after install of a Kohler Artifacts faucet, my DH knocked the spray button off of the head, while cleaning a heavy pot. One phone call, and three days later, a new head was delivered to our door, free of charge. Comments (6)The beauty of the Pesimoki is that the sink can be brought to the bottom of the stone perfectly whether a new top installation or existing. You're never doing that with wood blocking and/or shims. The sink is 1/8" below the top, that gap is filled with silicone, the Pesimoki raised, the squeeze out gets Windexed and wiped away. Perfection....See Morethreeapples
