I would love for you guys to send your prayers and positive energy to my family. My youngest dsis lost her sweet daughter Reilly, one week ago today. We are beside ourselves w/ grief. She was only 1 year and 9 months old. My dsis took her to her ped on Monday and he told her it was croup (sp?). She took her back in on Tues b/c she didn't improve w/ the meds he gave her. Again he listened to her lungs and said they were "crystal clear" and sent her home again. Wed at 6:30 a.m. my dsis and my mom took her to the ER b/c her temp throughout the night had remained high and she wasn't waking up easily. The x-rays showed one lung full of fluid and infection had set in. It spread to her blood. They were going to airlift her to St. Louis, but they couldn't get her stable enough. They were trying to drain the fluid off, but her heart stopped a little after 11 and they tried to revive her for about half an hour to no avail. To top it off, my dsis is 7 months pregnant. She was very strong through the planning and service, she and her husband stayed home alone much of the time, while the rest of my family remained at mom and dad's which is just down the road. They came over a few times but mostly kept to themselves, which is understandable, but we're all so worried and it's hard to gage how they are doing. They left town day before yesterday, saying they just needed to get away. We've heard from them and they seem to be doing ok, but we can't help but wonder if it really hasn't hit them fully yet. It's so hard to understand why this has happened. It's so very sad and just unimaginable. Thank you all for your prayers.

That is good of you to do all this for Ted & the boys. It will help Ted to move on & will make him feel loved & cared about. He must be so stressed, give him a hug from all of us & the boys too. They really need to know their mom was cared about & would be helpful if someone is assigned to take some discrete pics of flowers,people, etc. Not the casket unless you think it should be(from a distance) My kids were 15 & 17 & they wanted to see pics a few months later & then talk about losing their dad (heart attack at 48 yrs old) We had service outside at grave & 15 people sang his favorite church songs on a lovely day,besides regular minister doing the service. My kids & I were rather dazed that day but I did go home & write down some of the nice comments I heard about my hubby. I kept all the cards & letters & kids didn't read them until several years later, then it was a good feeling. I still have them & it is 25 yrs ago last Sept. So put things down & keep cards & pics & 1 day they will be like a visit from mom or a "closeness to her" Ted may also want to see them or maybe be the keeper of them but just because they have no interest in them now down the years they may be very important to them. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Auntjen. The way she died sounds so sad. The ray of light in all this sadness is how you have celebrated her life by sharing some of her charm, sweetness and good nature with us. We can feel her presence even in her absence, because of you. We can in a small way, all celebrate her life by reflecting on your story of her. Your post honors and thanks her for touching you so deeply through her communications and loving spirit. Shortly after a friend of mine died many years ago, I felt a compelling urge to get back into doing volunteer work. My friend had been an amazing social worker, and I was overcome with a desire to emulate her in some way, to extend some of the goodness she had offered to others. I know I haven't come close to giving what she gave to others, but the impulse to give back, indeed a compulsion to, was born from her death. Maybe sometimes fighting for a cause or embodying the values and concerns of a person who has died can help us to cope with their loss.

Long before Ronald Reagan died, Nancy said that he had (paraphrasing here) "gone to where I cannot reach him". I think that's what happens when someone is terminally ill; at some point, the caregiver/spouse/loved one starts grieving even though the dying person is still there. Six months after the final release from pain doesn't mean that your guy hasn't grieved long enough; he undoubtedly grieved deeply for a long time before her physical death. If he tells them this, maybe they will be able to recognize a little more clearly what he's been through. I wish you the best.

So, so sorry to hear this. I wonder if the DR has a clean record or not. The parents were doing everything they could for her. I wonder if they would be interested in a support group eventually. The name escapes me for the one for parents who have lost children...maybe Empty Arms? This grief can really effect her pregnancy. Sending prayers for all family members.

Having lost a child, this really just breaks my heart. Sometimes with the loss of a child there is "guilt" feelings. Also, the "if only" question. It is a long process.

I will Keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh, I am SO horrified by this story, and so grieved - PLEASE accept my sincerest sympathy.

I hope, in rememberance of their precious daughter, that they get the BEST ATTORNEY in this world, and get justice for her - that pediatrician should be IN PRISON!
