Where would you stop this paint color??

Finally on the last room of the house we are remodeling. It is the living room/entry.

I have come across a stumbling block in my painting. Not sure where to stop the green paint color at the open stairs.

Originally I was going to continue the green up to the same level as the first floor ceiling, then it would be an off white the rest of the way up.

DH is concerned it is too dark for the stairwell. If I don't then I see two choices.

1. Put a piece of trim from floor to ceiling on the wall to delineate the start of the stairs. Paint white on the stairwell.

2. Paint that whole wall white and make the color change at the corner.

3. Paint that wall and the door wall white so that the entryway is different from the rest of the living room.

What would you do? Hold my ground and continue green?
