How long is the hallway and where along it are the ceiling lights placed? What's on the other side of the wall where the mirror is? Maybe you can add an outlet.

You can try posting over at the Lighting forum too - they can give you more technical advice about how many bulbs, what wattage/lumens and if the spacing is OK.

I like the 3rd one best (milk glass), then the 1st. The middle one (square) looks too much like it's for outdoors.

You might want to check the size of bulbs each takes though. I'm not familiar with milk glass to know how much light it lets through. And the first fixture looks like it might take a smaller bulb size.

Love the color you painted your walls. Those pictures on the wall are adorable. Do you have artists in the family?

Have you checked out the latest in track lighting? Those fixtures have comes a long way -- and are now available in LOTS of finishes and styles ....

This is similar to the ones that I just put up in my kitchen to replace the huge flourescent boxes .... except mine are smaller (three-light) and happened to be on clearance at our local Lowes.

i kindof like your 1st lantern--i think they would cool in your long hallway... the 2nd one looks too out-doorsy. the milk glass choice is ok-very plain....the 1st lantern would be my 1st choice.

What about the battery lights that flicker like candles for at the end of the hall? Would just be for ambience not for REAL task lighting. Could be in sconces mounted on either side of the mirror, or in a lamp with shade on a table at the end of the hall.

You can always have an electrician add an outlet where you want one. I've done that and it has been a wonderful change. I've always wondered how builders made the decisions about outlet placements. Most of the time, they seem downright stupid to me-and don't get me started on single windows that are placed right near corners or off center on a wall!

Also like debb's idea of battery lights!

What is on the wall BEHIND the spot where you wish you had an outlet? If there happens to be an outlet it would be a very easy DIY project or inexpensive fix by an electrician.

I like choice #3 for the lighting.

The hallway is @20ft x 3 1/2 ft. There are 3 lights there now spaced evenly apart. We are going to get the electrician out here, but not right now. We usually wait until we have a few things that need to get done because his fee to just come out is pretty high. Electric is the only DIY my hubby wont do :(

I would have never even considered track lighting- those have come along way huh- very pretty! I'm not familiar with the flicker lights, but will check them as too.

I have two hallways like yours, each with three wall-mounted sconces set up on a motion-sensor that turns all three lights on and off at once. They're great.

If your ceilings are high enough for the lanterns I think they'd be pretty. I too was going to recommend track lighting. There are some that you can add different types to the same track for directional/art lighting and just plain for lighting your way.

The new track lighteing is much prettier than it used to be, but its not matching the picture in my head for this hallway. If I am finally going to get rid of the ugly builder lights, I think the lanterns will be cool. The ceilings are 9ft so I can't get anything too big.
