many family pictures down narrow hallway--tips? suggestions?

I love the idea of showcasing many family pictures in various size frames along a wall. I have a long, narrow hallway in my 1970s ranch home. It is so narrow that I know I cannot place pictures on both sides. Any tips on how to frame the pictures? I originally wanted to do black frames...but I was told that would not look so great....when you are at the end of the hallway, looking down the hallway, to see all those black frames. The pictures will not be able to be viewed from any kind of a distance...so I am not sure if doing a grouping of various size pictures will be worth it? What else could I do with such a long, narrow hall?

Below is a link to a picture. The linen closet at the end of the hall now has a door on it... a bifold french door with frosted glass. We also now have baseboards up. That is a flagstone floor you see...probably going to put two long runners (carpet) over the flooring down the hall. If anyone wants to throw in their two cents on that idea (runners), please do!
