Have I ever had a dumb moment? Um....too many to mention! I just posted relevant to my most recent "moment" though, looking for advice. I moved my computer tower at work and "cracked" my USB flash drive. I'd just backed up all my word and excel documents to the drive so my hard drive could be wiped out. I was in the process of moving all my data back. Too many computer issues in my life for the past 2 months. I am REALLY frustrated :(

I lurk on the Hot Topics forum. The posts there really interest me, but the posters are so knowledgeable about politics and world events that I am intimidated by them. I decided not to post there, because I didn't want to look stupid.

Well, one day I was flipping back and forth from Hot Topics to the KT. I THOUGHT I was posting on the KT, but I was actually at the HT forum. So, my one and only post over there is "What network is Dateline on?" When I realized what I'd done, I wanted to crawl under a rock!

Quite a few years ago, heard a chirp,chirp ~ sort of sound a cricket would make. Figured it only happened in the hallway, but couldn't find any cricket there. Made my other half tear up the carpet in desperation ~~ only to have a family member remark that it sounded very similar to his "smoke alarm" when the battery was running low.....ahem!....I knew that ~ NOT!

I'm sure I've had many of them, but my failing memory prevents me from having to embarrass myself by telling about them!

Too many to mention, but...

I take several medications and vitamins twice a day. Harry was on an antibiotic a while back.

I get up, sleeping and groggy, and set out my tablets on the left side of the sink. I get a glass of water. I set out Harry's tablets on the right side of the sink. I feed Harry.

I take my tablets. I let Harry out. I come back in the kitchen...and take Harry's tablets.

Uggh.

I call the vet and tell him what I did. "Is Harry's meds going to hurt me or affect my meds?"

Vet asks for doctor's name and number. Vet calls doc; doc calls me for permission to release my info; doc calls vet back. They confab and have a good laugh.

Vet calls me back and says everything's okay, but to stop taking Harry's meds.

I crawl under a rock and don't want to face either doctor again.

I've done plenty of dumb things, so many that its hard to rate one about the other. But, there is one outstanding thing, so stupid, that I hesitate to tell you.

At my wedding, I showed up without the wedding ring!

The story begins that morning in a hotel room where my parents and I had slept over the night. It was the morning of the big day and my best man had dissappeared. He and his new bride had gone out on the town overnight and could not be located. I was in a tiz and rushed. I laid my things out on the bed, carefully placing the ring box on my shirt were I would be sure to see it, and then entered the shower. My mother, the ever tidy one, saw the ring box laying out, and thinking that it should be more carefully stowed, she put it back into my suitcase. I came out of the bathroom with many toughts on my mind. I finished dressing and the ring never entered my mind again until I was at the church. My best man was still a no show. I was making arangements with an usher ( a friend of ours) for him to stand in as best man. The wedding march began and the best man breathelessly appears, his clothing a little rumpled, and said, "Where's the ring?" At that moment, I could have melted into the floor, because it was not in my pocket. I, too, wondered where was it? Hastily, I took off my school class ring and handed it to my best man - he grinned.

My bride knew nothing of this - there had not been an opportunity to inform her. In the back of the nave, I barely had time to tell the minister so that he would not be too surprised. The wedding proceded normally and then came the moment to place the ring on her finger. I slipped on the clunky class ring with the insignia turned downward so that only the gold band showed. The bride was mightly surprised, nearly burst out laughing, but played along with the charade. We nearly got by with it. But later, one of my bride's girl friends insisted on examining the ring close up.

This was out first test as a couple.

I was dog-sitting for some friends. It was a female dog and about 8 years old. After a few days I noticed a few drops of blood on the kitchen floor - you know where this is going, don't you?

I took the dog to the vet and explained to him what had happened. He is a very proper and formal man (from India) and tried his best not to smile or laugh. In the meantime I could hear the vet assistants hooting and laughing in the reception area. The vet very gently told me that the dog's problem was that she was in heat. I was soooooo embarrassed. After all, the dog was 8 years old - I didn't realize that they are not like human females and I thought she had been spayed. I had not had any experience with dogs in heat as we always had ours spayed before their first heat. Life's embarrassing moments!!

A coworker and I were doing a pruning job in a clients backyard. Bob was doing the actual cutting and I was hauling the clippings to the front and loading them into the truck. It was very springy debris and I was using a wheel barrow. I was trying to pack it down without much success. I still don't know what possesed me to get into the wheel barrow and jump up and down on the load. It ws working pretty good until I came down slightly off of the center and the wheel barrow flipped over and I landed on one of the legs with my chest. Bob says he heard the strangest WOOOF sound, turned around, and saw me sprawled out on the grass. It's the worst I've ever had the wind knocked out of me. I thought I was gonna die. I had a huge black and blue mark on my chest and couldn't take a deep breath for a couple weeks. Bob and I worked together for 23 years and he never let me forget that moment.

I have had so many that they all seem to blend together. I'll try and sort through them and share one later today. I'm sure I'll probably do something dumb today that will qualify and it will be fresh on my mind....lol!

My first dumb moment...getting married so young..right out of high school...dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

This wasn't really "me", but hysterically funny at the time.
My boyfriend and I were loading the car to go on vacation. I had set out all the things to load, suitcases, snacks, etc.

The last thing I did before we left was to empty the cat litter box. I always put in a plastic grocery bag to take out. I asked him to take it out to the trash and we would be ready to go.

About 6-7 hours later I was driving when I asked him to get me something to eat.

Yea...you know...

Well, he reaches behind the seat, opens the bag and comes back with a "clump"!
Okay, I was laughing so hard I literally had to pull off the highway (actually I am chuckling again right now).
It honestly took me a full 10 or 15 minutes to compose myself before we could continue on.

We still joke about getting me a "snack".

In our bedroom we have a satellite box, VCR, DVD player and TV . Four remotes. I can't figure out what to do to just watch TV. DH is the only one who understands the wiring and the remotes-all four of them. I remember when we had just a TV and VCR. I could only record a show if I was watching it. Had no idea how to use the "timer". And couldn't watch a show on one channel while recording another. And don't get me started on TIVO. That's beyond me. Ever heard of "Urban Amish"? That's me!

Well - I've never done anything dumb......(snort) but I CAN tell you that just this week I lost $40 somewhere around Shoney's and got into a hottub with the cell phone in my pocket. Other than that, probably never have done anything!!! LOL

A clumpy snack! OMG!!!! That is hilarious! Soooo, did you ask for a nut-covered fudgie or did he just grab one for you?

I'm like Ann....my moments are all blending together, but I DO have one of DH's handy in the front of my mind.

On a very hot summer day, DH saw a squirrel lying on its stomach under a tree in our yard. Its eyes were closed and tongue was hanging out (squirrel's, not DH's). DH knew I'd be upset so he got a shovel to bury it near our house before I could see it.

The ground was very dry, making it difficult to dig a hole deep enough. What made it worse was that he had to spend a long time hacking through tree roots that were in the way. He was already exhausted and in a bad mood when it eventually dawned on him that he had spent a good portion of the afternoon chopping through our phone line.

He spliced it back together (or whatever you do to fix it) and then went through the hole-digging process again. When he finally finished, he went back to pick up the dead squirrel. It opened its eyes, looked at him, and scampered up the tree.

This is a small one, but it's the most recent one I remember.

I was making Key Lime pie and I had everything ready, put the pie in the oven. I sat down for a little while and was feeding kids lunch or something. I looked to see how much time was left and realized I didn't set the timer. Get up to check and then realize I hadn't even turned on the oven!! ARGH! At least I realized then and not much later!

Mine is a cooking one.

I was making macaroni and chesse from scratch for dinner. Now..I have made this lots of times and now the ingrediants by heart.

I made the meal and when I served it to DH he gave me a look and said "this tastes different...did you use a different brand of cheese"? It was then I realized I forgot to put the cheese in it. (It was still in the fridge)

I have had many of them. My most recent was when I heard a chirping sound and took the battery out of my smoke alarm. The chirping continued and finally I called the business number for the fire dept. and told them what was going on. They said a crew was installing a smoke alarm on my side of town and would be by shortly to check on mine. Three uniformed firemen arrived and checked and rechecked the smoke alarm that kept chirping until one of them noticed another smoke alarm sitting on a crowded shelf behind them. I had completely forgotten I had taken that smoke alarm down from another room. The firemen then told me that both smoke alarms were very old and needed to be replaced. I replaced them.

I still laugh about mine,totally dumb!! I had gotten new glasses and the darn things kept sliding down.I went back a couple time to get them adjusted.I knew they took them in the back and did something to them,so i assumed they heated them to bend the plastic.(DH tells me not to assume anything,LOL) anyway i decided i could probably fix them myself so stuck them in the Microwave,don't remember how long,wasn't too long though.(yeah right) anyway when i took them out they were melted(the frames) How embarrasing to go back and tell them what i'd done.First i told them the dog did it,he looked at me and we both cracked up,then i admitted what i had done.

It still makes me laugh everytime i think about it.

OMG, did the microwave glasses bring back a dumb memory! When I was a young Navy wife many years ago, my husband came home from the ship with new glasses with the ugliest gray plastic frames. I had recently read that you can dye plastic with Rit dye so bought some and put the glasses in the hot dye. You guessed it! twisted frames and glass in the bottom of the pot. The optometrist on the ship had a good laugh about that. Hubby's never let me forget that one!

I adopted a Boston Terrier/ Sheltie mix from Petfinder last summer. We went to Petsmart to get a ID tag made in the machine they have there for our new pup, Ziggy.. We very carefully printed his name and our town and telephone number and reviewed it three times to make sure every letter and number was correct. Out came a shiny blue bone shaped tag which we put on his collar. Next day daughter said .."I didn't know you were calling him Zippy"..So TWO adults must not have half a brain between them.

I went to an ENT doctor because I had a sore in my nose that wouldn't heal. As I sat in the chair, he approached me and for a moment I forgot where I was and opened my mouth wide as though he were a dentist.

He looked at me and calmly told me he couldn't see the inside of my nose through my mouth and then we both started to laugh.

Boy, did I feel dumb.

I think my dumbest thing really is the dumbest thing! About the same time they installed my new range, youngest daughter brought over a battery operated clock to have her Dad fix the hands on it. Well, I didn't remember she had it on my counter as we still had lots of remodeling stuff on it and it started playing some Christmas tune. I thought it was my new oven and I called and told her. We really got a good laugh about that stupid moment!

Well, My lawn mower was covered with a clear plastic drop cloth to protect it from the rain. One day I went outside and it appeared that the mower was gone. I mean I could see through the plastic plus it was laying flat on the cement, so why did I pick a corner of it up and look uder it to see if the mower was really gone.? I hope the neighbors didn't see me. Vique.

i had to think this one over to pick just one. i do have a list though LOL

i guess one of the worst was when i was canning some last of the season veggies, making a relish of sorts. i painstakingly chopped all my veggies, gathered all my ingredients, cleaned and boiled all my jars and lids and boiled that pot of goodies for the alloted time.

canned everything, heard that incredible "pop" of the lids that is music to a canner's ear.

low and behold, the 6 cups of sugar that i was supposed to use, wound up being 6 cups of sugar.

what a waste of time and ingredients.

The day I was getting ready to leave the house and was getting everything together--purse, bottled water, keys, and phone. Couldn't find the phone. Looked and looked and I was TALKING ON IT. I'm ashamed to say I've done that twice. Probably admitting it would be the second dumbest moment!!

The list is so long it really would be hard to pick just one. Most recent would be after cutting out vistor passes
in work on Thursday for the next day (Friday) I went and ripped them up thinking they were Thursday's passes. Duh!!
Had to print passes for Friday all over again and cut again. I'm such an airhead at times. lol!!

I have so many but I think this one was the worst and most embarassing. A few years ago now I had a little Pom/Shizu mix pup that I adopted....Charlie. I had him neutered. A few days later while looking at his area I noticed a large bump. I called my neighbor Carol to come over and look and sure enough she thought that it looked weird too so I called the vet and made an emergency post-op appointment. Carol went with me and as we went to show the vet Charlie's bump..... it wasn't there! OMG!!! The vet said that he had had an ....*garden web won't let me type the word lol* we all busted up laughing but I was still mortified. No wonder poor Charlie had one the way we were moving that thing around trying to find out what was wrong LOL!

I have these kind of moments on a daily basis.

I like to tour the houses under construction in my neighborhood. Last year, in doing so, I locked myself into a house under construction. After some moments of panic, I found the back door was unlocked, but there were no steps yet and the ground was at least six feet away. Oh, did I mention, it had been raining a lot. I had to leap through mud to get away.

I had to call a locksmith to unlock my car door because I locked my keys inside of it. I got in the car for some reason, got out to pay him and locked my keys inside the car AGAIN.

Felt like a total idiot.

OMG, these stories are priceless!!! My co-workers probably think I'm nuts as I sit here alone in my office laughing my behind off!

First off, I'm not sure anyone can top KTer Dottie's Bathcapades!

Here's my story...
Back when I was in my mid 20s I had long flowing hair which I liked to keep off my face. Didn't like ponytails, too old for pigtails and I grew up with headbands of all sorts, needed something new. So I find a cool pair of sunglasses and start wearing them around to do the job. It became somewhat of a trademark for me so I wore them a lot.

Many months down the road, perhaps a year or two I notice two disturbing dents on the top of my head. I make an appointment with my GP. He examines them closely, asks all kinds of questions, examines them again and finally tells me he has no idea what it could possibly be. I thanked him for his time, slid my sunglasses back on my head and walked to the door. All of a sudden I hear "uuuh Jodi, could you come back here for a minute?" He takes my glasses off my head, examines them, points to the two nose bridge thingies and didn't have to say anything else. I turned bright red, he was laughing so hard the nurse came in. I turned brighter red and left ... with my sunglasses in my purse. LOL

Right now I'm in the creating stages of some potentially dumbest moment. For a year now we hear a beep when we're in the living room. It is not constant and there is no rhyme or reason for it. I've removed everything I can to eliminate possibilities but so far am at a complete loss what it might be. I'll report back to this thread when I figure it out, because it's bound to be something that is very obvious.

We have a smoke detector which puts out an occasional beep - it's a "battery check" - because my husband checks the battery twice a year (his birthday/New Year's Day) he disconnected the beep thing, it drove him nutty.

Not a smoke detector. We know all too well what that annoying chirp sounds like and they are relentless. This is a soft short beep that is heard every day (for a year or more now) but not at the same time of day for the most part. Sometimes it beeps 2 or 3 times in a couple mins. Sometimes only once.

I have a special place in my brain I send my most embarassing moments. Once there I can no longer retrieve them. You know the ones. The ones that everytime you think of them you get that uncomfortable, uneasy feeling and look around to see if anyone is reading your mind.

But, having said that. My brother never lets me forget the time I made his special pumpking pie and left out the sugar. He gagged but hubs ate it and called it good. I guess when you expect dessert you gag and when you know its not you call it a vegie side dish.

I'm not the guilty party, but was a witness/participant. We hired one of those mechanics that will come to your house to work on your car. He worked for a while and got it going, and pretty soon came to the door and knocked. "Have you got another set of keys to your car?" he asked. "Because I locked them in--and the engine's running!"

Teehee. He was a good mechanic, other than that.
