I hate shoe shopping!!!

After my MRI (which was a very interesting experience) this morning I went shoe shopping, not because I wanted to but because I need to do so. I am not a shoeaholic, quite the opposite. I wear my shoes down to the nubbies and they are falling apart. I have one pair each of summer and winter everyday shoes usually loafers (brown and black), dress shoes (white and black), and sandals that I wear once in a blue moon.

Part of the problem is I have very flat feet, I mean flat as a pancake flat! And each foot is slightly different in size. So say a 6.5 will fit one and but be too tight on the other. But 7 is too big for both! It is rare that I find shoes that fit both feet. And forget heels of any height, I will trip and break my neck.

Plus on top of all that I am CHEAP! I hate paying over $40 for shoes. I go to Kmart, Target, Payless shoes, Ross and look for sales. Not much out there that I like either. What is with all the Mary Jane shoes out there? Way too young looking for me. I was looking for brown low heeled leather loafers. No luck so far.

So what are you? Shoe crazy or hate it like me?

I like shoes. After just moving, I can say I have a shoe count...over 3 dozen pair. The number suprised me.

But, I do like good shoes. I mostly buy good, good leather, and probably get about 10 years out of a pair. They run the gamut from 3 pair of Crocs, to 4 pair of Stuart Weitzman, and lots in-between.

I shoe shop in spurts..and always shop the semi-yearly Nordstrom sales - great shoe bargains then.

Hate it,like you.I got 2 pair of slides at JC Penneys a few months ago when they had a buy one pair,get 2nd pair for 88 cents,and except for my crocs those are probably the first new shoes i've bought in several years.

I only wear comfortable shoes at this point in my life and my feet are very hard to fit, they are flatter than flat so anything looks terrible on me because of how my feet are. but a few brands that I can wear are Merrell, I have 2 pair of them that I wear as my dressier every day shoes. Dr.Comfort shoes, Keen I have my Keen sandals that I live in during the summer they are not girlie shoes but are wonderful. And Born shoes are great and so are Clarks. This is very similar to my fave Merrells but mine are a bit dressier but do have the zip, and are leather. Lorelei Zip You should see a podiatrist and have them do a professional fitting on you, so many people think they are in the right size but actually they aren't and wearing shoes that fit badly can really cause serious toe and foot problems. My mother is a perfect example of that, she wore shoes that were too tight and too pointed for most of her life and now at 89 her feet are so crippled up she can barely wear shoes at all. Her toes are all on top of each other from being squished into those pointed shoes, reminiscent of the bound feet of Oriental women.

I love it all. I love the deciding...feeds the control freak in me. And I actually found it easier when I was doing the whole house as I seemed to get my rhythm on and pieces and parts were coming together...like exercising a muscle, I got better with practice. Once the house was done, I did repaint the kitchen, the bedroom and added an accent wall in the library, but overall, the decisions worked really well. Of course I couldn't have done it without my trusty "blue book"...a notebook with tabs for each room and the exterior full of notes, paint chips, room sketches, swatches, etc. It became an essential for every meeting with architect and project mgr... I can walk into a warehouse of fabric and be absorbed and not at all confused by it. But I did feel overwhelm when looking at tile...I think it's because, unlike fabric where you are presented with a "fait accompli" of color, pattern, texture, shine; with tile, you create your own "fabric" from the building blocks of stone, porcelain, glass, metal and even wood. Fortunately I found a couple of really helpful guides in the tiles stores I went to who steered me through the morass. And that's something else I learned...to rely on the help of the experts at the stores....while some of them aren't helpful at all, the right person can be a godsend.

I feel the same way about my husband's exwife. I am custodial stepmom of 3 chlldren. My husband has always had custody because the exwife decided one day she no longer wanted to be married or a full-time mother. Before I came along she constantly dumped 99% of her time on my husband, he of course never said no, she had full control of her old household only she lived in a differnt place and had her own life. It was a very unhealthy situation. My husband just never stood up to her, he struggled to keep a full-time job and take care of 3 children. I give him tremendous credit because many men in his situation would not be able to take on that responsibilty. Well, then I come along, we get married and all of a sudden she begins to take a deeper interest. Mainly because I would not allow her to control my household and my husband began saying "no", She always used us as her babysitter, whether it was a work meeting, an exerecise class or a European vacation. She has been nothing but a major PIA, she wouldn't pay child support when my husband enforced the order she opened a full blown custody case, suing us for full custody because she did not want to financially support her children. We also have a screwed up schedule. During the school the chldren visit their mother Mon&Tues 4-8pm with alternating weekends. During the summer they visit her Mon-Wed 4-8pm with alternating weekends. The exwife wanted some crazy, they live with her 3days one week, then us 4days, and the next week it was the reverse. Mind you, she only had a 2bedroom condo. All three children sleep in the same bedroom. 2 girls 13&10 and a 8yr old boy. The master had enough sense to reconize that the living arrangemnents were not appropriate and would not grant anymore overnight visits except for the already standing 2 weekends a month. The schedule is crazy. The exwife is crazy. She teaches the children it is ok to lie to us. She is NOT supportative of myself or my husband. She has harrassed us to the point that she is not allowed on our property, she can not contact us by phone, she may only communicate via email, unless it is an emergency related to that day's schedule, then she may leave a message on our cell phone. She would call my husband at work and pull him out of meetings with the CEO of the company for some nonsense question. HE would get numerous calls on a daily basis. I never saw 2 divorced people talk on a daily basis. We have insulated ourselves as much as possible but everyday there is some new issue. She never returns clothes that the kids wear over there, one day she sent my ss home with no shoes on. She won't take the kids to baseball games and then tells them we did not give her the information. I could go on and on. But your words say it best I HATE HER!!!!! If I had hindsight my posting would be alot differnt. I would be like that one woman who used to be involved with a man with children. Trying being involved with a man who has custody of his children. The rewards have been few and far between. I have lived this from the first day I moved to where my husband lives (I moved from a different state). So the entire two years of my marriage have been filled with this crap. My husband's relationship with his children has also suffered terribly. I was divorced for 11yrs before I remarried and never experienced one ounce of the trouble I have in this life, and it isn't even my divorce. The best advice I can give you is stand your ground. Say NO, she is responsible for her custodial time. It took my husband a long time to be able to say no, it is very easy for me. I know that he is still uncomfortable with saying no but I help him, Remember you can't let her control your life. Good luck, God Bless. I understand, it's one hell of a way to live.

natal, Today I spoke to my friend/client who has been helping me with my home improvements and asked him if we could switch the doors to open out of the closet. He feels this will be difficult to do since the closets face one another with a tiny hallway separating them that would only allow one door to open if the bathroom door straight ahead is closed since that opens toward the hall and the other closet is closed. Then, I was told, he would have to square off the side the door hits inside the doorway since the rounded part is there and then the square part would be on the outside. He would have to move the hinges on one side and move the piece that the door connects with when the handle is turned. He told me if was a big job and then would have to be repainted in places. He would do it for me when he had time but does not think it would work for that skinny hallway. I still would like it done if possible or I will have to remove the doors or just walk into the small walk-in closet (good for only walking in and standing with the door shut but not a walk-in closet like I envisioned where you can open the door and see both sides and all within but I am still blessed to have the closet space.) and shut the door when I need to see what is the other side of the closet. The space is not wide enough for the bi-fold mirror door I found unless the door area is drilled to make it wider. Why would anyone design a townhouse with closets that look nice to sell a place but are not that practical to use? On the brighter side of things, I love the white three-tiered wire shelves I bought for the closet and have put my shoes on them. I returned the tie/belt rack tonight since it was not working out and bought two white utility racks for my belts that can be secured on the wall or door that I feel will help me out in organizing my belts. I love belts and wear them all the time so I have a lot and they wear out quickly. My clock radio would not fit on my tiny round metal table so I am glad I found a tiny white alarm clock for $14.99 at Target also. I am pleased and now just need to work on the door issue before I can take pictures for everyone.

I love shoes and have several pairs. Since I'm kinda the jack of all trades I have quite a variety. One pair horseback riding boots, a couple of run out in the muck or work at the greenhouse shoes and boots, several school shoes or clogs Subbing, plenty of summer thongs and Crocs I've found on sale. With four seasons, two very different part time jobs, two horses that leave lots of cr@p, I'm forced to buy shoes! Hopefully on sale.

I am all for comfort.I wear New Balance Cross Trainers for sneakers. Mervyn's puts them on sale for around 40 bucks quite frequently. I can only wear cross trainers,walking styles kill my knees and hips.

For everyday I love Lands End anything. They have the most comfortable shoes and sandals. Pricey but also go on sale at Sears for 30 to 40 dollars. I wear a seven and buy the sandals in the kids dept. A size five kid's sandal fits me with the "last" they use.

I have a high,loooong arch and instep, wide ball, short toes and narrow heel. I am a half size smaller on my left foot.

Try kids' sizes. They are sized differently. I even own a pair of boots marked size four (girls) that are very comfy.

Like you I don't shoe shop for fun. It's necessity.

Wildchild, Landsend is having a great sale on kids "summer" shoes right now. Youth shoes 1-7 in the brightest colors. Most are half price in the catologs that came in the mail today.

I hate shoe shopping. I have several pair of shoes in my closet that I haven't worn for over an hour. I'm very particular. One foot is a size 7 the other a size 7 1/2.

I have always hated to shop for shoes....I have a long and narrow foot with a more narrow heel. I wear a size nine.
I can't buy cheap shoes and it kills me to have to pay the prices I have to pay for a good fit.
When I get really, really, really rich, I am going to have hand crafted shoes!

I really enjoy shopping for shoes that are on sale. I am easy to fit so I like to wait until Younkers Dept. Store has a 75% discount at the end of the season. I have purchased some very expensive shoes at a cheapy price.

I'm kinda shoe crazy, but probably not as bad as I used to be. My latest craze is Uggs. I just bought two pairs of high boots and they are sooooooooooo comfortable and cozy!! I could sleep in them.

I absolutely LOVE shoes, but I have major problems with my feet and toes, so it's very hard for me to find shoes that are comfortable. I gave up heels long ago. I told DH he's lucky because all of my paycheck would go to shoes if I had different feet!

I'm shoe crazy, but I have stopped buying cheap shoes all willy nilly just because they're cute. It was becoming ridiculous since my closet is too small to hold a collection of anything! I probably have about two dozen pair right now, including boots. I still shop, still love high heels, but seldom purchase. When I do buy I make sure it's something I'll be able to wear with several outfits for several years. So... I'll try on a pair of turquoise stilettos just for grins - but end up buying the black pumps with a sensible heel, LOL!

Me TOO!! I have super flat feet and wear an 8WW as my feet are 'inoperable'-so says 3 specialists. Major bunion deformed toes as well as evil hammertoes! I have to get real soft leather, preferably open toed and no heel higher than 1.5"
To add to the misery-I have narrow heels so I have to get sling style shoes.
On my recent trip to Raleigh-my daughter took me to a WW shoe store-I was in heaven! Bought 3 pair. ($$$) but so worth it.

Hate it also. I have to put an inner sole in one because of the size difference. I am hard to fit because of narrow feet. I wear Wally World's fake crocs to work and their fake Berkies for nearly everything else. No heels for me because my ankles are weak and turn over easily. When my ex MIL passed she had over 200 pairs of shoes!

I was always just like you describe--hated shoes, hated buying them, resented the money I had to spend on them, absolutely detested wearing them. Had never had a truly comfortable pair of shoes in over 55 years. At any given time, it was rare for me to have more than about 3-5 pairs (one dressy, a pair or 2 of sandals, a pair or 2 of sneakers. Like you, my feet are over 1/2 size different from each other.

Then I had a foot problem and made a visit to a WOMAN podiatrist. Not only did she help the immediate problem that sent me to her, but she evaluated my feet--they're basically shaped differently than most of the population--and she recommended a couple of brands of shoes.

Now? I LOVE shopping for shoes, love wearing them. I'm more comfortable in them than out of them now that I have great shoes that fit well, and I don't mind paying $50-60 per pair, because I know I'm getting my money's worth--in both comfort and quality (the first pairs I bought at her recommendation, over 3 years ago have been worn a lot, but still look like brand new).

Guess my point is, maybe finding the right brand of shoes for your feet might make a difference to you. This is one branch of medicine where I believe it's important for a woman patient to see a dr. who is a woman--not only do they know the medical info, but they undertand fashion concerns as well, and can give really good advice. If you could find a brand that is as comfortable for you, as I have--might be worth spending a few $$$ for a podiatrist visit? Good luck.

I found a website called zappos.com.Look it up any kind of shoes you want.You can go by flats,heels,go by colors..Hundreds and hundreds of shoes.You order and they send you a bill later.

Well, I wear Clarks exclusively these days--and buy them at shoe outlets so I don't have to pay even more for them (they retail for $60-80 or so in the mall stores).

BUT understand, your feet may be different than mine. The reason I didn't toss the brand name into my first post was because everyone's different. That's the shoe my pod. recommended after evaluating my feet, my lifestyle and my medical needs. They may or may not be the best choice for you.

Aptosca, I am so in agreement w/ you. I have 2 pairs of shoes I wear for dress and New Balance tennies for the rest of the time. I had plantar fasciitis and got rid of all my flip flops (which thrilled one of my BFFs), but after almost 2 years I no longer have that problem, but only wear shoes with good arches. I'm ashamed of all the shoes I have that I never wear. I'm gradually getting rid of them. Yes, I HATE it, too.
