We still have material on the Texas side butit's all gone on the Ark side.

Really disgusted with the new floor plan and format of the Walmart stores now. The manages of the Tx side said they don't plan on doing any make-overs until next year.
Except for the food dept and some items I know I can get there the hominess and friendliness of the WM stores has fallen short for me.

Our WM had a sign just this past weekend that they'd be losing the fab. dept. after May.

BUT

the guy cutting my fabric for me said to call 1-800-WALMART and ask them to keep the dept. He said in other stores that's worked and the customers complaints saved the dept.

So make that call. Let the store know how you feel. Get your friends to call. See what you can do. If ours loses their fabric dept., I think there's only one other place in the county where I can buy yard goods.

When they redesigned and updated our Wal-Mart last year they got rid of the fabrics.

I also notice that they don't carry nearly as much variety of items like they used to. Not wild about the new look.

Fabric is not available any more at my WM either. It's so sad. I remember when they sold fabric in department stores.

Our WM lost it's fabric about a year ago, AND our Hancock's closed AND Hobby Lobby has cut it's fabric dept to about half of what they used to have. I never bought much fabric from WM, I didn't like the quality, but they had a nice big craft dept with lots of basics and now they don't. It's just pathetic, now. I don't understand it, frankly, because I think a lot of younger people are crafting and scrapbooking like crazy. Hobby Lobby is very busy every time I go in. When I'm near a Hancocks, I stock up on zippers. And quilt shops have the nicest fabrics and they are getting all my business for thread, patterns and fabric.

Our store in CA lost it last month. I was shocked to go in and buy some thread and they didn't have any!!

We kept our fabric department thru letters, e-mails, and phone calls. Makes me sick when I see the same fabric that our Wal-Mart carries at Beverly's and online stores for DOUBLE the price. I don't work for WM, but I shop there - the fabric quality is fine. I am buying more and more online as I know it is inevitable that WM will close its fabric department. Sad...

Hadn't been to our local walmart in about six weeks. Went there the other day and our fabric dept. is gone. I was shocked. I'm really going to miss it. Now you have to drive in the other direction 30 miles to even get to a Joann Fabrics. We do not have a Hobby Lobby around here. No other place to get it.

I haven't been in our WM since before Christmas so I don't know if the fabric dept. is there or not. Not much odds, really - the fabric was poor quality and ugly. I liked that their Simplicity patterns were cheap. I do know that they were busy reorganizing the craft area so maybe the fabric is gone.

When it was first announced that WM was getting rid of the fabric department, those of us who sew got onto headquarters and demanded that our local WM keep fabric. Sure enough, we still have a good fabric department, as big as ever and with all the notions, too.
The nearest source of fabric is 20 miles away if we lose the WM department, so it was important to keep it and we let headquarters know. Letters, e-mails and phone calls--they work!
A question--when did stores start deciding what customers will get, rather than the customers deciding what stores will stock?

I've heard there are two brothers and I think one sister that run the Walmarts now...

While the mother was still alive she made them promise to never take out the fabric dept.

They promised they would not...

But as soon as she passed away they started closing them.

I don't think calling or emailing will help...

Ever since this was all announced I have been emailing and adding my name to every list I could find that was being sent to them.

Our WM hasn't had fabric for some time now. I really miss being able to get good prices on nice fabric. The only option for purchasing fabric we have around here is a JoAnn's. In order to afford their prices, I have to wait on coupons. In addition to paying more and driving much further, the waiting in line for fabric cutting drives me crazy. JoAnn's has a fairly large store here but, like many places, they are way understaffed. I went there the other day, just to buy a couple yards of trim, and I waited over 30 minutes in line.
Our WM crafts section is filled with about 85% Martha Stewart. So...if you're not making something Martha, you're out of luck!!!

This is probably just another ploy to eradicate another small business, the seamstress. I guess we can add the seamstress to the long list: service station, small farmer, bookstore, grocery store, garden center & nursery, independent trucker, mom & pop restaurants. The only way to bring about real change is vote against the incumbent. Your old senator and representative is just as bad as the rest of them no matter how much you like him/her.

"Ugly modern 60's look"

Shag carpeting is back in a big way. So is the decor of the late 50's and early to mid 60's ranch style houses that some of us remember from our childhood - I figure if you already lived it, you are *so* done with it.

But, all that stuff is very big with those who were born after all that stuff got thrown in the trash with a big sigh of relief.

My first brand new washer in the early 70's and dryer was Harvest Gold. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven, it was be-u-ti-ful. It really wasn't bad as far as colors go, but oh lord, that avacado green was pretty terrible, even for that time.

I haven't seen any signs in our Wal-mart yet - will have to try to notice it next time I go in. I would think in these harder economic times, people would be doing more things themselves.
