Cream cheese? Mayo? Ranch dressing? On Pizza? I've never heard of doing that to pizza before, so I can't help you with that one.

When I make pizza I use a basic pizza dough, and then add veggies like onions, peppers, mushrooms (okay, so they're not exactly veggies, but they have to go on pizza) tomatoes, and all that yummy stuff. I do an assortment of cheeses, but usually use mozzarella, parmesan, goat cheese, and/or whatever other cheeses I have on hand. It always depends on what's in the fridge and pantry.

This is the recipe I have used most often:

2 packages refrigerator crescent rolls
2 8 oz pkgs cream cheese -- (can use light)
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 package Hidden Valley Original Ranch Dressing -- (dry mix)
4 to 6 cups chopped vegetables*
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese -- optional

The vegetables I use are usually shredded/diced carrots, chopped fresh broccoli, sliced green onions, seeded and diced roma tomatoes, and I add yellow grated cheddar cheese on top of all. I think sliced olives (patted dry) would be good in this recipe too.

This is a different kind of "pizza" served as an appetizer or snack. You bake the dairy case pizza dough in a large rectangle or most use the Pillsbury Crescent roll dough with the triangles pinched together and rolled into a large rectangle of dough to fit on a baking sheet.

After the dough is baked and cooled you mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, and dry ranch dressing mix together and spread on the baked dough. Then you add the fresh veggie topping - all the veggies are chopped pretty small, press them into the cheese mixture, then top with grated cheddar, cover and chill until serving time. Cut the pizza into small squares and serve. A really lovely presentation - and they're kind of addictive, too.

* 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
* 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* 1 (1 ounce) package Ranch-style dressing mix
* 2 carrots, finely chopped
* 1/2 cup chopped red bell peppers
* 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
* 1/2 cup fresh broccoli, chopped

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Roll out crescent rolls onto a large non-stick baking sheet. Stretch and flatten to form a single rectangular shape on the baking sheet. Bake 11 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Allow to cool.
3. Place cream cheese in a medium bowl. Mix cream cheese with 1/2 of the ranch dressing mix. Adjust the amount of dressing mix to taste. Spread the mixture over the cooled crust. Arrange carrots, red bell pepper, broccoli and green onions on top. Chill in the refrigerator approximately 1 hour. Cut into bite-size squares to serve.

I usually add some shredded cheddar too I don't really go by the veggie measurements, just eyeball. Plus, I use these to make rollups with flour tortillas. I also add the dry ranch to taste, I find the full package makes it a little too salty for my taste (can't believe I just said that). One of my favourite treats, too bad no one else in my home likes it. Not that it's iffy, but no one in my family cares for cream cheese!

Thanks, Cookie, for posting the complete recipe. I agree that the entire pack of dry Ranch dressing mix is a little too much for my taste. But most people I know use the whole thing.

We had these at the office yesterday and I have decided that the use of parchment paper under the crust might be a good idea. Her squares stuck to the pan and you lost some of the base when you tried to pick one off the pan.

The one I use is very similar to Teresa and Cookie's
recipes but different enought to give you another option.

Vegetable Pizza (Lee B)

2 cans refrigerated crescent rolls
11oz cream cheese
3/4c mayonnaise
1/3 pkg dry ranch dressing mix
1 tsp dill weed
1 tsp garlic powder
Chopped fresh vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber,
mushrooms, peppers, zucchini, green onions, tomatoes, etc.)
Bacon bits (optional)
Sunflower seeds (optional)
1c grated cheese (cheddar, american or swiss)

Press crescent roll dough into bottom and up sides of jelly roll pan. Bake
according to package directions. Cool. Mix together cream cheese, Mayo,
Ranch Dressing, Dill and Garlic until smooth. Spread over cooled crust. Chop
vegetables into small pieces and sprinkle over pizza. Top with bacon bits,
seeds and cheese. Refrigerate for several hours, then cut into squares and
serve.

I love veggie pizza!!! I use the same recipe as Teresa, but have never had it with tomatoes. Broc, cali, red and green peppers, green onions, carrots, olives, and cheese. Ummm I might have to make some for the weekend.

They are good! What I recall most is to finely chop the vegetables so each bite delivers all the vegetables at one time.
And, that they were not good keepers, being soggy the next day. I never used tomatoes either.

I take the jelly-like seed sacs out of the roma tomatoes and just dice up the meat of the tomato - not soggy at all.

The version with the dill sounds really good!

the first time i saw this dish, i thought it was sort of odd. my first taste though told me it was very good stuff! it's a great little snack and people just scarf it right up. and as bumblebeez said, take the time to chop the vegetables finely. i didn't the first time i made it and it really wasn't as good as it should have been...

I wasn't convinced until I saw the second recipe. The dill and sunflowre seeds won me over.

Hmmm. Hmmm. Welllll, I guess I can see how it would be addicting, and a good party snack. But DH is definitely not a fan of Ranch dressing. It actually looks like a possible alternative to chips and dip, which it basically sounds like a variation of. I wonder if there's a way to do it without the processed foods.

You could make your own ranch dressing mix:

1 1/2 TB dried parsley
1 TB salt
1/2 TB dried chives
1 t. dried oregano
1 t. dried tarragon
1/2 TB garlic powder
1/2 TB lemon pepper

Mix all together. Store in an airtight container. Use 1 TB mix with 1/2 c. mayonnaise and 1/2 cup buttermilk to make Ranch Dressing.

You would use about 1 TB mix or to taste to add to the cream cheese and mayonnaise.

I guess you could use puff pastry dough or homemade croissant dough for the base of this snack recipe.

Sally - Just thinking out loud here, but maybe omit the Ranch and add a little something like gorgonzola or roasted red pepper puree to the cream cheese? Or omit the cream cheese altogether and use a red pepper hummus that would look more like a pizza sauce?

Using canned cresent rolls bugs me but I haven't found an acceptable substitute. But I just use them for party appetizers and whatever it is usually gets scarfed up fast.
