Another curtain question

I will be putting white sheers throughout most of our new home. In the breakfast room, we have sliders that will go out to do a deck. Should I have curtains on these sliders or just leave it open for easier access to the deck? If I do not put curtains on that window, should I also not put curtains on the window on each side? In the photo attached, you can only see the one side but the breakfast area is a "bump out" and the walls perpendicular to the sliders have a windows. Should there be curtains on all of this area, just the windows or none of it?

None, but I don't like curtains. Unless you need privacy I'd leave it all open, those are nice windows, What direction do they face?

I would probably do a Roman Shades on the windows and a drape on the sliding glass doors. You could probably cheat on the width and not really use them. It would add some color and softness as well as coordinate with other fabrics in the room. Beautiful room, good luck!

I've read that you are not to clean the fiilter media...ever. I built my own biofilter...not a skippy but I am about to add one due to all the good things I have heard about them. My pond is in the stage of green pea soup also. I have heard it is a stage that ponds go through this time of year. I am trying the quilt batting. I have it in the top layer of my biofilter and it is catching quite a bit of the algae. I purchased mine from Michaels. I also am using it around my pump. I am letting it run two hours around the pump because it gets pretty dirty quickly. This works great to catch all the small algae. You have to be careful to not catch the batting in the pump. I guess we will see how good it works. I'm thinking about building something that would add some type of barrier between the batting and pump to avoid this problem. Probably a project for tomorrow. Good luck! If anyone has good ideas to get the pond clear I am open to the hints as well!

Zone 4a and this will be my fifth year doing this. I start around new years, typically with hardy perennials in my zone, shurbs/trees and seeds that i don't really care about (e.g. old seeds). I typically wait until late February to start putting out a lot of my annuals, and I leave the following til the end of march or early april: zinnias sunflowers ornamental millet abutilon dolichos lablab morning glories 4 o'clocks cosmos and pretty much anyhting tropical in origin Most of these will sprout if sown earlier, but their foliage is sufficiently tender that I lose them in the cold nights we have earlier in the winter/spring. If I wait til then, they typically don't pop til mid april or later and i typically don't have to worry about the seedlings freezing then.

Only can answer a few of your questions: I've always had curtains with tub/shower combos. The trick is to seal the curtain edges to the tile/tub. This is best done with a thinner liner (a heavy one can be used, but might want to put a shampoo bottle on it to keep it there). Start the shower and point the head away from the open edges. Get in and by this time the tile will be a little moist. Run your wet hand along the back of the liner and stick it to the tile, tracing it down and over the inside corner of the tub. Never a water problem in 20 years. Had to train my DH how to do it when I married him though. We've had pocket doors with latches on the inside only. You can find the hardware at any home depot or lowes in the replacement door and window hardware areas for closets, patio sliders, casement windows, etc and install them yourself.

Another Betta Another Question

I had to buy the entire tank set up!!! I was so freaked out by suddenly having a beta with no tank (knowing he cannot go in with my existing beta!!!). I just rushed and did what I could. Apparently, people I know think you can put a Betta in a vase and I don't agree at all! I live 10 minutes from a Petsmart so I was able to pull it off. I just checked on him and he was in a different part of the tank swimming, he saw me and started going to the surface and looked like releasing bubbles out of mouth in a fun way. Then He nestled in again on a leaf and seemed to be sleeping. I just feel bad about all the different water types I used- I just did t have enough of the bottled one. I will heed your advice and just condition tap water in the future! My other Betta you gave me so much advise on is doing well. I'm glad I got into this- they are amazing!! i plan on doing 25% water changes once a week on both tanks with conditioned water. Glad this forum was here. I just hope this new guy will do well. I worried I stressed him too much in the rushed tank job.

Thank you for the suggestions. The windows face northeast. There is tons of sunlight from morning through midday.

I would say it depends for the sliders, but no to the windows. For safety I think fabric near the FP should be avoided, so it may look odd to have some curtains on only some windows.

You may find that you want something to cut the glare. You could consider sheer horizontal shades for the windows. They make a vertical sheer for patio doors that is much more attractive than the verticals of old.

Here is a good example of drapes on the door and Roman Shades on the windows.

If that is a house behind you and neighbors can see in, I would definitely put something on all the windows. I have a slider in the kitchen next to the table, but have left if bare for years as we back onto woods.
