Instead of white, what about painting them the tan that is in the bedding, or something a bit darker, and then adding rope trim around the edges of the bookcase, horseshoe or other cowboy-themed handles on the armoire, etc. Then I would use either some of the wallies, or four cowboy-themed prints or even bandana fabric to fit in the four panels of the armoire.

I think the tan would have a masculine feel and allow the red to be used more as accents.

Oh the cow print would be cool .. but it might be a little too busy for a small room with lots of other things going on. I really like your tin star. I think I might paint the bookshelves and armoir the brown or tan from the bedding and then and paint a red star on them.

White takes away from the western/cowboy feel IMO.

You might have gotten your stuff at Target, if not Target has a cowboy theme with accessories. I agree with painting them tan, maybe you could glaze some reddish or darker brown tones on top of the tan to give it the rustic cowboy look.

Les, I love the rope trim idea, and that'd be pretty simple to do. Also, the idea of putting the bandanas in the panels.

Start small :) Just to prove to my dh and mom who laughed when I said I wanted to paint something, that well. They were right, I can't. Hehehe.

Paint the table! You won't rest until you get cow print on something, so go for it! Maybe you could get a couple art canvases and paint them with spots as well and hang them on the walls to give the cow table friends. I'm thinking brown spots instead of black though!

When I first moved out at age 18 my room mate collected cow stuff. I started to add to it, and the next thing you knew we had cow in every nook and cranny. My mom even hand painted round ornaments with cow spots for our tree. (Still have these, couldn't bear to part with them.)
Needless to say, I can't look at much cow now without my head starting to spin. :-)

I think you're off to a great start on your room and I'm with the others -- paint it tan OR faux woodgrain it. Go for the cow look on the table and chairs and that will add a bit of whimsey.

I used a tan color on the bottom walls of our "cowboy" room. I'm sorry I don't have a better picture. This one was taken just after the new floors were put down (the orange 1980's shag was ripped up, yeah!!).

A friend of ours painted the mural all around the room and we painted the bottom part of the wall tan and the ceiling blue where he sponged on the clouds. The chair rail has a rope detail on it, too. The curtains are denim with a red bandana tied on top. Again, I'm sorry it's so hard to see, I can't find the better pictures

I love the cow print on the table idea! How about a red or black frame with tin inside it for a message/fun board. Horseshoes? Wanted posters? A rodeo/cowboy clock. It would be so fun to have a boy! :)

It's darling! I'll bet your boys are so proud of their new room. I love LaFonda's mural, too, BTW. I like the idea of painting both the armoire and the bookcase a cowboy red color and doing the table in the cowhide print. You could even pad the seats and cover them with red bandana scarves. Our guest room and bathroom are down in a cowboy/Western theme . . . mainly because I already had a lot of the pieces already. And, our families are all Back East and love staying in a Western room when they come to visit us. Here's a pic of our guest room:

Love it and I'm sure your boys will too. The walleis are good too because in a few years....you can move onto skateboards or something. Go ahead and do some painting, it will be fun. Funny, how I'm starting to have such an appreciate for western/cowboy decor, all because of my 4 yr old, lol.
I just showed him the pics, and he asked "can i have a cow bone, too?" hehehe.

Mommy, wow..another? Good for you. I'm very happy with our four, but there are days I'm bummed it's the end of babies for us. Dh, not so bummer, lol. I'm kind of worried if we had another, it'd be a girl..hehehe. I do well with the boys :)

And funny you mentioned the skateboards. We're in the middle of doing the 9 and 11 yr old's room right now, too. Skateboards and Pokemon, ugh!!
