Photos on canvas

Have been painting bedrooms and enjoying photos stored in plastic bins found under the beds. Sadly this is where my printed photos live. My non printed photos hang out on my PC. I want to display them but in an organized and inexpensive way and I saw an idea consisting of 9 ea 12 x 12 photos mounted on canvas (not canvas prints which are like $70 ea) all black and white hung in 3 rows of 3 on a wall. I also saw an idea where modge podge was painted over the photo- not sure but could try that.

Question before I order the prints and canvas which comes out to less than $5.00 ea, Do you think this will look too crafty or cheap? Thoughts Please?

All of my canvases have been ordered through whcc.com; not sure if that's a possibility if you aren't at least a semi-professional photographer. It's been a while since I've checked their requirements for ordering, so it's worth looking into perhaps. Professional quality. An alternative option that I haven't personally ordered a canvas from (but have ordered great prints from) is mpix.com. I've been happy with everything I've gotten from them and would bet their canvases would be nice, as well.

Thanks everyone for the compliments! I didn't intend for them to just lean on the mantle - I wanted to hang them but as I said, hubs didn't want them damaged by the heat of the fireplace and since I still have several more to do, I need to find a larger place. Hilltop, I usually have a mixture of glassware and candles on the mantle. I left the glassware that complimented the pictures since they were solid in color but clear glass. Beverly, that is a neat idea - certainly looks different than the actual photos, interesting affect.

My suggestion is to leave the 2 pictures on the bottom approximately where they are. As a group, they appear to be centered on the wall space. Just adjust them so the top of each picture is at the same height. Then rehang the upper two pictures (again at the same height), so they line up with the lower pictures on the right and left. Ultimately, you are forming a rectangle shape with the 4 pictures. The vertical space between each picture should be the same as the horizontal space between them. I hope this makes sense.

The Houzz link is actually of clip glass frames like the ones I found for you on ebay - see link below. If that's the look you're going for, I'd try Michael's (with a coupon) or Ikea (their frames are usually pretty reasonably priced).

If it's canvas you're going for, sorry, I don't have any experience or ideas .....

The example that you linked looks nice. One idea for you if you used canvas would be to paint the sides and edges of the canvas black or brown or some color that coordinates with your room to give the canvases a more finished look. I'm a visual person, so if I'm trying something that I'm unsure of, I'll try to approximate the look in a sample of some kind before I invest resources in a total project.

I have seen some photos mounted on canvas on pinterest and some of them look really good. I would google "DIY photo on canvas" and find some that look good to you and follow their directions. I think your photo wall will look great. :)

Check out artscow.com. We've done significant remodeling, and I usually buy a digital image from etsy and print them on canvas. Their prices are extremely reasonable. Like 28 bucks for a 16x20, so a 12 x 12 should be even better.
