Toaster Oven update- Scam Alert!

A few of you shared opinions with me and others in a hunt for a better toaster oven to replace our fire starter Oster.

Well, I became interested in the infra red Panasonic that was mentioned by a couple folks. The problem that i ran into is it is out of production. Panasonic refers people to clearing type houses that sell liquidation stuff, etc.

After a ridiculous amount of searching, I found a relatively good price on a unopened box. I payed for the item and shipping via credit card and anticipated its soon delivery as the purchase was processed the same day.

As it turns, out I was scammed by a scam store front website and haven't heard a thing. They don't answer the phone, don't return emails and i found a few folks online that had similar stories to tell.

This stuff happens every day, but it's the first time for me in over 15 years of online purchasing. Creeps!

I put in a claim with the card company and cancelled the card. I teach computer classes in a community college and was told by a banker in one of my classes that a person should keep a low balance credit card open and only use that one for online purchases. I think I'll do that from now on.

Keep you eyes peeled for cartdiscounts.com. They advertise good prices for electronics, appliances, you name it. They come up alot during mechandise searches. Beware!

I agree totally about keeping a separate card for online purchases! Very low risk that way.

no! On 10/31, I purchased an expandable dining room table from Appliances Connection at a price of $2,000. Subsequently, I arranged for professional assembly of the table. A few days after its arrival, on 11/22, the assembly professional and I discovered a defect in the table's extension mechanism, rendering it unusable. Immediately, on 11/22, I notified Appliances Connection of the defect and my desire for prompt return and replacement of the table. Due to the table's significant size and weight, I stored the dismantled units in their original packaging outside my garage, explicitly informing Appliances Connection of this temporary placement on 11/22. Despite repeated communication throughout November and December, including follow-up daily messages through their system, emphasizing the exposed, potentially weather-damaged state of the table, Appliances Connection only initiated contact with the manufacturer after a week. Further delays ensued, with the manufacturer requesting video and photographic evidence on which I promptly provided. This unproductive exchange continued for over a month, culminating in Appliances Connection offering replacement parts instead of a full table replacement. This proposed resolution is demonstrably inadequate for a defective product delivered and rendered unusable due to a pre-existing, undisclosed malfunction. Unable to reach a satisfactory resolution with Appliances Connection, I filed a dispute with my credit card company. Subsequently, Appliances Connection provided a shipping label, requiring me to bear the cost of returning the malfunctioning table out-of-pocket. Their stated policy, communicated only at this late stage, contradicts prior assurances and imposes an unreasonable burden on the customer in the event of a defective product. I have challenged Appliances Connection's return policy, highlighting the impossibility of maintaining the table's original condition due to their delayed response and extended exposure to the elements as well as fixing it without any such skillset. Additionally, I refuse to incur the significant expense of shipping a heavy, damaged item when I am the victim of a defective product and its delayed resolution. As of today, I remain in possession of the malfunctioning table and its packaging, incurring financial loss and significant inconvenience due to Appliances Connection's failure to fulfill their contractual obligations and lack of timely remedial action. This review will be left untouched and shared on other social media channels until I receive a full refund and paid shipping label to ship the broken table back.

Owbist, you know I have the highest respect for you and your wisdom. But, I disagree with a number of your points. I stick my English muffin in the toaster and push the button and know in approx. one minute I have my toast, ready for the butter. My DVD goes in the slot and I hit Play - there you go. I turn on my TV, flip channels and find the show I want to see. I don't want to configure my computers - I want them to work without shouting warnings, stopping me in my tracks with updates, scans, scans, scans...I don't understand a language with doesn't fit with mine - had to run a search to figure out why the 'new Word' kept double-spacing all my letters and I couldn't find the place to change the fonts. Ready for this? - Home-Editing-Styleset-Word 2003. Then to change fonts - Home, editing, style-set, scroll the list and choose. Then a window pops up saying "Changes have been made that affect the global template Normal.dotm. Do you want to save those changes? Would that be something the average user would understand? - I would never have figured it out myself, ever! There were so many steps, I had to write them all down. I would never remember that a week from now. I am so furious over MS changing Word, which I have used for years and now is the biggest headache anyone should have to deal with. Why should anyone have to know that IE should originate from Programs (I think) and not system 32? What the heck is system 32 (don't answer I'm not interested). The bottom line is the computer is not geared for the average user at all. It requires too many steps to get anything done eg. saving a document requires too many steps, setting up files and folders is so confusing for the average user they don't do it. They lose everything. It does not save time at all, requires much more time and concentration to get a simple task done. Unless you do something over and over again, you can't remember all the steps. It can be so frustrating, a truly negative experience. Most people I know only use the computer for email and looking around the web. I am forever being asked for help and really feel their frustrations and see how totally confused they are. They don't know what they are doing and when you explain something to them, they still don't get it. These are not idiot people. They are people who don't want to spend hours, weeks and months trying to figure out how they can download pictures without losing them. They don't want to learn a new language, be an electrician or programmer. They want to download a photo, send it in an email. They are confused by the language, the terms, the windows popping up. I have an appointment tomorrow, with another computer tech and will need to spend a lot of money to get my network (hardwired) working again. This has been an ungoing problem which has cost me so much money and time to find out why my machines refuse to share. They work together for a while and then quit and I've tried everything to no avail. I've had 3 different computer people work on this and no one has cured the problem. For what I've spent so far on this, I could have bought a new computer. Computers are not stable. When they work, they work well. When some glitch happens, everything stops. I have a design for all of it. But this room is in queue behind the master bedroom and bathroom so think... 2016? It was the garage from 1959-70. The room has five sides so it is hard to conceptualize but... - The wall with the one window will be mostly sliding glass doors and lead to a patio and pool. - The wall with the fireplace will be the same, but with a different fireplace. This one is in very bad shape and is dangerous to use. We would like gas instead. - The wall to the left of the fireplace is behind the breakfast area and will remain. Can't do anything here. It used to have a lot of windows, but they were filled in when the addition was made. - the wall I took the picture from is already open but the pony walls will go away. The dining room will go down 1' to the original height so there will be only one step between rooms. - The final wall leads to the garage. The window looking into the garage will go away because that is not a nice view. Also, fire codes. The floor will be terrazzo and the new fireplace most likely red-orange brick with a white stone rectangle... Something I saw in a picture I saved of another MCM house that I plan on borrowing the design for. The false beams in the ceiling will stay. I currently own no furniture for this room besides the rug and will need to get some.

Kudzu, there are many posts in this thread, and other threads throughout GW on potfillers regarding how to avoid having the access to the shut-off valve walled in. “Trying to access plumbing from the underside is not going to be useful for most valves.” Most people have kitchen sinks, agreed? Access to shutoffs (hot and cold) is below the sink. Potfiller access can be the same (below the potfiller in a cabinet, or behind a drawer cabinet base. It’s not difficult. “For a pot filler, I'm simply saying that having it more accessible than in the wall is the choice I'd make.” Fully agree and it's the smart thing to do while installing one. Marcaevans, I wouldn’t want hot water at the potfiller. Hot water is handy for washing hands, dishes and rinsing dishes, but I never use it for cooking pastas, or adding to soups and stocks, or using in any of my cooking. Hot water is more likely to leach contaminants from the pipes. If I need hot water for cooking, I heat cold water on the stove or in the microwave. I really like your BBQ sink setup! Hduns, yep, it’s hard to find a deckmount PF in various styles and finishes!

Michael, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I do a lot of online shopping too, and this would toast my chips! I'm here mostly to respond, and to keep this going to the top for anyone else who might be considering this company for an online purchase.

Oh, that's just rotten! DH & I had to deal with identity theft in the spring. $2000.00 and some bounced checks later....We found out that something screwy was going on. Later on, we were notified by the company that there was a breach in security.

I'm glad you canceled your CC accounts. DH and I opened all new accounts and closed the old ones. The bank saw some charges in St. Louis and flagged them. Fortunately those we didn't have to pay for.

Sorry you have to deal with all these hassles.

CARP! I'm sorry to read this Michael.

Take a look at the link below, just a few reviews but all negative and all recent. The reviews include mention that the CartDiscounts site invites reviews but then has deleted all of them.

A few months ago I bought a stand mixer and was trying to buy a blender attachment for it (unfortunately the model has been discontinued but I love the mixer). I ordered at four different sites with a credit card for the blender attachment. Each site said the blender was available and then each one sent a another email or called me saying it was not available and refunded my money. By the third order I was calling to verify that the blender was in stock. My conclusion from this is that there are a lot resellers who connect their websites into larger distributing websites who drop ship the items to customers. The larger businesses must not keep an accurate inventory and must not notify all their linking sites soon enough. I was lucky not to get burned but by the time I had given my CC number out four times (a card I use only online) I was through. Still wish I could find the blender though - not even any on eBay.

I'm glad you got your card canceled. Maybe CD will be out of business soon.

Although I've never used it, IIRC my Citibank card has a feature where they issue you a fake/temporary card number that is good for just one purchase. They know to link it to your card, but it's useless to anyone but the intended recipient. Might be worth looking into again.

Hey,
I was also scammed by CD (or in the process of being scammed) - it was 10+ days ago - took my money, said item was shipped (via 2 day air) and then nothing...no tracking numbers, no response to emails..and no item...nothing...

I went to register.com and found the site owner. Im posting that info below for others (like myself) who's google search for "cartdiscounts scam" brings them to this blog.

Contact the FBI at www.fbi.gov, click on the "report internet crime" and file a report - maybe we can get this site shut down and "raymond barbour" thrown under the jail!!
