I just cannot believe some people- SO NICE!!!

DH has a cousin who is married, with two grown kids-they are young adults. Both of them have numerous health problems, and very serious ones at that. But they both continue to work and to try to get ahead in life. Their jobs are not high paying, but they don't complain. They don't complain about their health problems (the cousin is on oxygen, and has to drag that tank around work with her), and they never complain about finances either-but we know things are tight for them

Well, about a couple of months ago.. a man who lives in a near by city won about 14 million dollars in a lottery. Several years ago, he used to work with the cousin's husband. Well, Andre got a phone call from car dealership, and they said that the man had gone to them and BOUGHT HIM A 2009 VAN!!! He hasn't seen this man in a few years, and this came right out of the blue.

This man is retired, and the only family he has is a sister. He gave $30,000 each to several Tim Horton's workers where he used to frequent, and other money to various people. He has made his own arrangements so he will have all he needs for the rest of his life, but he just said it makes him happy to make other people happy.

What an unbelievable person he is. And DH's relatives were completely stunned. I just love hearing happy stories like this.

My sister told me of her friend, who is on another forum with her, from New Jersey. Her son had a heart transplant. Anyway, she works in an office, where some workers went together, as they always do, on a lottery ticket (Mega Million?) and they just won over 200 million. Her friend did/doesn't get in on it. She said the day after they'd won, it was crazy with camera's from CNN and others. Then the next day it was like a tomb. Quiet, and ho hum.

I love the $2 bill story and have no trouble believing it. And we've all experienced the teenaged clerk who is completely befuddled, who just has no idea what to do when you give them $10 and a dime for a $5.10 purchase. Doesn't anybody teach their kids how to count change? Don't kids play Monopoly with their parents any more? That's how I learned! Back to the 96-year-old who was raised on a farm - has she lived on a farm at all since she was a child? 90 years ago, a farmer was likely to raise all his own chickens. Two-day delivery of chicks from McMurray's wasn't around then, so there HAD to be a rooster, for the continuation of the flock. A farm child back then would have no idea you didn't need roosters to get eggs, since there always WAS a rooster. Huge-breasted Cornish cross chickens hadn't been bred yet. Most folks used the same chickens for eggs and meat - and, without roosters, there was no future eggs or meat. That excuses the 96-year-old, but nothing excuses a kid who won't eat an animal, yet lives on meat. That's just plain sad. The worst part is that I doubt he's an exception, among city kids. My sister had a couple of farm interns one summer. One called her mother one day and happened to tell her she was harvesting garlic that day. Her mother was amazed that garlic grows on a plant, and just flat didn't believe that the bulb was a root, dug up from underground. Everybody knows garlic is a powder that comes in spice jars! If true then there should be peaches on it. If you get a peach tree or two to grow but it is unproductive you might try grafting a scion of his onto a branch for future use on topped failures (if they survive just no fruit). I really would be surprised but if true this variety deserves to be preserved and propagated.

Oh geez karla..........I'm so sorry!! I'm just glad you're okay. Doing the splits after age 20 is dangerous! I'm afraid I would have broke in half! They probably would have had to call the fire department to get me up and out! haha Could the rock have punctured the satellite dish? If not, where's the water going? Is it going underneath the tarp? I personally would try to buy a good liner, since you don't want to have to do this again any time soon, but someone in another thread said they used their shower curtain. I suppose anything that can hold water will work, but you want it to last. Some nurseries have little pond sections, but not many. I've seen liners at big box stores, but they might be made of PVC stuff, rather than the EDPM stuff. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in here. I just have stocktanks, and don't have to deal with liners. I'm sorry your family is being hard on you. You AREN'T nuts. You're doing something that gives you (and hopefully others) alot of pleasure for just a little money. I think its a wonderful thing! Good luck to you karla, and I'm so sorry for your slip. I just don't do MW. Can't stand it. Sorry. Nor the store bought white bread. But home made white bread, I'll sneak that by sometimes. DH is a whole wheat snob, but he loves my white flour ciabatta that I make - I don't think he notices it's white flour, just that it's good. I do my own version of BLT's. Basil, lettuce and tomato, with cheese. Earlier this summer when I had and abundance of good tomatoes off my vines (now, sadly, the leaf footed bugs have ruined them) and lots of basil, I made myself some basil, lettuce and tomato sandwiches with some good cheese. Any kind of good cheese, probably a good Vermont sharp white cheddar or a good pepper jack, I don't remember which kind, but it didn't matter, because the basil and tomatoes were so good! And I used mayo and stone ground mustard. On home made bread. Mmmmmmm. That was only a few weeks ago, but it seems so long ago I had good tomatoes. Remember the old tv show The Millionaire? John Beresford Tipton gave away $1,000,000 every episode, and the story was about that person. His representative would show up with the check at some critical point in the story.

That is so wonderful I promised the girls I used to work for each $1,000.00 if I won the lottery it would give me so much pleasure to do that. God Bless this man!!

I assume he is "older" and he only has a sister. How much money can he possibly need? It must be such a great feeling for him to give this money to people in need. I always said if I came in to a large sum of money that is exactly what I would do.

That's what I call paying it forward!

I'm not a millionaire, and I don't play one on tv, either! But I was taught to never pass up a chance to do someone a favor. Someone could be having a very bad day and a little act of kindness can go such a long way. Thanks for sharing this great news!
