another annoying tv thing

I cant't stand that promo for some family show on the Family Channel I don't even know what show; the father seems to be giving a boy permission to kiss his daughter and the boy (kid) says "With tongue or without" and the father answers "without"

give me Leave it to Beaver please. and this is on at least a dozen times a day

Yeah before you flame I'm a prude of the old school!!

Once again, mightyanvil has relayed excellent information in a very polite manner. I promise you that there are many others that read some of these posts and walk away because they can't say what they want nicely. That "line" that mighty is referring to is known by anyone involved in contractor/sub work, whether it's folks in commercial work or residential work, from building trades to service work of all types. Another guarantee that I'll make is that I'm not the only one that cringed a little when reading your post. Nothing against you at all, it's just that that degree of conversation between you, GS and ND is more than I'd like to see. Those simple little requests always have the potential to drag either the requester or requested over the line and can eventually lead to unrest or dispute. Some of us are touchier than others about the politics and maintaining the proper flow of information. I cannot tell you how many times I see the customer fishing for a little too much conversation from my subs. Many subs can only resist so long before they either take the attitude that GS has or turn into a big gossiping nelly. Just this week I have to solidify the customer/vendor relationship with one of my customers because the sub was being overly talkative. These things are not always born of ill-wishes. But, when your sub calls and says "hey, i just got off the phone with the customer, and..." it is more than an annoyance, it is a pothole in the relationship.

So, you wanted a man's opinion. OK, here goes although it may not put me in a good light. I really did not wnat to agitate the wonderful people on this forum. At gatherings, take look at entrances and doorways. Women tend to clog the entrances. They will move just inside an entryway and stop. After two more do this, it is impossible for a man to pass through without being rude or pushy. That's irritating. This is merely an observation, not an attack on women. I've watch this phenomonem and have wondered what is the basis of this behavor? It doesn't matter what kind of meeting it is, social, business, or church, it happens. It tends to happen more often in friendly social gatherings. The same ones who block entryways also dawddle when in line at a self serve buffet. If they can't make up their mind on food choices, it never occurs to them to continue on and to let others pass along. They could alway pass though and then go back to the end of the line if they decided on another food choice. I have seen a few in a self serve line stop to discuss a dish for 5 minutes or more without regard to others who are waiting in line. Fortunately, this does not happen often and this applies equally to both men abd women. Other than that, I like pot luck buffets. It creates lots of material for conversation starters and I am always amazed at the variety of skillful food prepration, especially when the guys add their barbeques and chilles.

Regarding the bear and the toilet paper ... ... remember a couple of years ago that someone showed a comic illustration of a bear and a bunny, where we saw a rear view of both while they were going poo ... ... and the bear asks the bunny whether it bothers him (I imagine they're both "him"s) when he gets poo on his fur, and but bunny says, "No" ... ... so the bear grabs the bunny and uses him the fulfill the toilet paper function?? I think that it may have been Moni who posted it, for I came on a couple of days later when I wanted to print it to say that it had disappeared, so the original poster sent a copy directly to me. If you read this, original poster, ... thanks again: I enjoyed that one and passed it around ... even sprung for the 15 cents to have it done colourfully. What mainly gets to me about the inane commercials is that they can't wait ten minutes to play the same one over again. Plus ... I agree: when you find one *really* annoying ... write the sponsor to share your thoughts with them. ole joyfuelled ... with a bit o' help occasionally from funny cartoons

TV Land has also gone to crap with its stupid reality shows. Used to you could count on it for some good classics, but no more. Give me Beaver, Andy and The Waltons please, along with Little House on the Prairie.

I am a charter member of that PRUDE club.

TV has gotten really ugly this season with all the profanity. Does putting profanity into a show attract more watchers? Doesn't attract me once I see it is there.

And commercials are so crude. Two that were on this evening just made my skin crawl. One was for Viagra and the language was so explicit I just wondered how many teen age boys were taking notes. The other commercial was a parody type showing a teenage boy buying breath mints, as though they were condoms.

Dignity and morals are slipping faster and faster into the gutter.

Really makes me sad, especially for the young people.

I think it was an ad for hair remover, but the girl hops on the guy's lap and I swear he has nothing on.

Remarked last night how scandalized my parents would be to hear or see what's on TV these days. I can almost hear Daddy calling someone to get it out of his house w/orders to smash it so no one else would be exposed to such trash.

Anyone besides me e-mail CEO's of advertisers to complain?

Wouldn't it be nice if there were channels that showed only family appropriate shows and commercials?

Well, I guess they do. It is called PBS. hmmm...maybe I'll just cancel satellite and go back to more of the local programming, which includes PBS and the major networks, (though the networks have a lot of offensive stuff too on 'regular' tv.

Do any of you remember when there was a rule about when these types of things could be aired? It had to be after 9pm I believe. It wasn't very long though till the shows they slotted for after 9pm went into syndication and were shown at anytime during the day. I've always been a member of the 'prude club', even when I was very young.

That is bad enough - what gets me is "f-ing this" and
"f-ing" that when you see a group of teenagers.

I was at a Best Buy, and stopped to talk to a friend
just going out. There were 4 teen-age boys coming
out and talking -- and that's about all I picked up
from their conversation.

They have no social skills, morals at all. Now,
obviously, there are still some really, really good
kids - but these that have had absolutely no values
in their lives cast a pretty big shadow.

Scares me -- when they take over.

Teenage boys don't need Viagra. LOL.

If TV bothers one so much. Just turn it off. Simple.

I don't even own a TV. Most of the time when at another person's home they have the thing running. I can't for the life of me see what the constant attraction is.

This has nothing to do with tv, but the Best Buy conversation reminded me of it. We were in a local pizza place and the table behind me (and my 2 young DDs) had 3 teenage/20-something guys. I SWEAR the conversation was "I smoked last night at 11:00pm, how long do you think I have to wait before the test is still positive?"

But for the people who DO see what the attraction is all of the crude language, etc. IS an annoyance.

I agree with all the others - tv is going more down hill all the time. Glad that we don't have kids at home. I'd sure be the tv police!

I just saw that disgusting commercial about the tongue=thing. Believe me, if any young pup ever had the audacity to say anything like that to my Dad or to my Hubs when DD was dating.....they would have found themselves in the front yard with a major foot print on their behind. When I'm out in the mall, the language is just as bad or sometimes even worse from the girls than the boys. I'm glad I'm not raising kids now days. Dottie
