The door could be upgraded to a panel door like your other one. I don't think painting will add interest; instead it will bring your eye to the door, which is not what you want. You could simply accessorize the top of your cabinets, pick a spicier paint for the walls and add an interesting rug.

Hi again, citymom! I think we live in the same house! Not only is your bathroom similar to mine, but your laundry room is very much the same. Mine opens off the kitchen too, almost a "walk through" if you will. Although I can't offer a lot of advice, I look forward to seeing the replies you get, because I, too, am interested in putting some spice into my dull laundry area.

Stargirl - too funny! You don't by chance live in the Chicago area do you??? This laundry room is definately a walk through. It gets AMAZINGLY dirty too! It's hard because I think a deeper color would help with that, but then I wonder if it'd be way to dark in there. I just want it to be cute!

I think what you have to start with is wonderful. Paint the door any color you want! Change it if you hate it! I can't really see red in there myself, maybe a barn red with some brown in it. I think green would be a nice choice. Have some fun accessorizing the top of the cabinets and maybe a framed print or two.

I think a laundry room is a perfect place to have a little fun with decorating. Mine, which is in a basement w/ no window, just happens to be purple with big white polka dots! I figure I'm the only one who goes in there, so why not make it something I enjoy. I think a funky bright green could be great, if that's the sort of color you like. Something like BM Dill Pickle? Then you could replace your cabinet handles with green glass or something...put a few pieces of brightly colored pottery or something above the cabinets. Make it a space that you enjoy... might as well enjoy the "view" while you're sorting and folding!

I think it looks great already. The colors are nice. How about some laundry themed artwork or stencils?

You may not want to hear this-----but, I LOVE the color and would keep it easy with such a good slate to work with. If you go darker in a small area without windows it will get very dark and closed in feeling. I think red accents in the room would go awesome with your light yellow. I would just have fun and really spruce it up with fun, accents in RED:) I think the door won't bother you so much when there are other things in the room to pull your eye towards!

I don't think I would like red, but either the gold or green would be pretty. Look at the picture oceanna posted of Georgiagal's green laundry room. It's one of my favorites!

I'm with Sueb all the way here. With your floor, and that great beadboard, you can paint any color your little heart desires. So go for whatever makes you feel HAPPY because let's face it, laundry isn't a fun chore. So put a little whimsey in there.

As for the garage door, paint it any color you like. Or paint it plaid, or polka dotted, or paint a cow on it.

Have you looked at the Laundry Room thread in the Gallery? There are some darling laundry rooms in there to inspire you to loosen up and have a little fun with yours.

I think laundry rooms are where you should do what you don't dare do in the rest of the house.

I'd definitly go with something fun.
Is that garage door right off your kitchen? Is it a door you go out very often? If so, why not paint it with chalkboard paint? (yes, it's my new obsession, lol) We have an area on our kitchen wall painted with chalkboard paint. I pass it on my way out to the garage to get to the car, so it's the last thing I look at. I love writing little notes for myself or dh, because we actually look at it. And use it. Even simple reminders like "take out the trash".

I'm also wanting to do our laundry room, too. Something kind of fun and crazy :)

Thank you guys so much for all of your awesome ideas! I think I found the perfect green for the laundry room. It's brighter, happier and more fun! It's not a lime color, but closer to an apple green. It's called 'Marsh Green' from Lowe's. I think I'm going to go with that! And get some fun vintage laundry ads for the walls and some cool accessories for the top of the cabinets.

I love to chalkboard idea for the door. Will have to run that by dh. We're also doing the powder room next to the laundry room. Same floor tile. I am thinking of doing a white wainscot in there too with maybe a red on the top half. Not sure! Too many decisions!!

I think a green would look very nice. It would still match the yellow walls in the rest of your house. If you wanted to keep the yellow you could add green and red accessories. Our you oculd paint your walls green and add accessories that are yellow and red. Where did you get your tiles? They are very nice. You could paint the walls a brown color to compliment the tile you are going to put in. I love the beadboard and think you should keep it.

If you are in the Chicgoland area and are going to change the flooring to tile. Do a really dark grout color and seal it!!! The laundry is going to take a beating in the winter with all the car junk coming into that space. The last thing you need to be cleaning grout with a tooth brush each spring. Been there.....done that!!!!
Have you thought of a fun wall paper? It is a small space and paper could really add a punch with too much $$$$. Something washable and durable.

More good advice on the grout! I def. want to do a darker grout for sure. We did a taupe grout in our master bath and I am so glad I didn't choose white or something lighter!

Here's another door idea for you. I saw this on BHG--a fake french door created using mirror on the door with molding to make the grid effect. It enlarges the space and creates interest on a bland door. Plus it would look great with your lovely beadboard IMHO.

I'm betting that door to the garage is a fire-rated solid core...they're required here, when I did new doors I didn't have a choice of anything but the same boring door. I think the mirror with french door effect suggested by sujafr is a great idea and will open up the space. With the reflection you'll also have TWO people doing the laundry so it'll make it go faster!

I know that ther have been a lot of postings, but I happen to have a similiar color laundry room. 2 ways that I added color, I found a spicy red coat hook for the wall from Pottery Barn and I put down spicy red rugs from Plow and Hearth that catch the dirt. I too live in the Chicago area. I painted my laundry room BM Monroe Bisque. We are thinking about putting a tile backsplash behind the laundry tub.
