"Still" wine?

I want to try a rabbit marinade from a 1952 ethnic community cookbook. One of the ingredients is 2 cups of "still" white wine. The quotes were in the recipe.

I guessed that it was white wine that was not bubbly like champagne and planned on using pinot grigio but thought I'd check here if it might mean something else.

How would you interpret "still" wine as an ingredient?

You are correct. "Still" means not bubbly.

But by the time you marinated the rabbit, any bubbly would be long gone. :)

Some whites keep well....most do not. I would invite friends to help you pack and have a cooler full of white wines. Open it taste it....toss it or drink it. Most of the reds should be fine....but not necessarily. I trust they have been stored on their sides in a cool place? Linda C

Kara, It would be a shame to use a real Burgundy to make a "mulled Wine" Burgundy wine can be quite expensive, and comes from the Burgundy region of France,which is divided into a number of smaller regions. The grape used is Pinot Noir. You can buy some excellent Pinot Noirs made in California as well as Oregon, but again it would be a real waste of good wine. You are probably looking for an inexpensive generic "burgundy". I believe Gallo use to make one and it came in a jug. You probably do not really need a wine labeled burgundy, just an inexpensive, but drinkable wine will do. Ann.

The Magic Chef dual temp. wine fridge is less expensive, but comparable to more expensive brands in function and looks. Had it almost 2 years. No one would guess what we spent and that it came from HD.

I too had that annoying leaking. No special diet or kegels were helping me. I had 2 kids, one 6 pounder and one almost 10 pounder. The 10 pounder came really fast with no drugs and got stuck. They had to use foreceps to get him out. My nether regions were black and blue for 2 months and I never was "right" again. I held off on the surgery for a year, reading scary stories of failures online. Finally I decided I couldn't wear pads for another 50 years and had the sling put in a few days ago. I'm still healing but doing much better. Right now I feel like I have really tight underwear on because I have small sutures in my inner thighs. Hopefully in a week or 2 I will be back to my prebaby bladder!

Ruthanna - ethnic cookbook? Is the recipe for rabbit an Italian recipe? I worked at a restaurant in Italy years ago and they had a marinated "coniglio" that was grilled over a wood fire that was to die for. White wine, olive oil, cracked pepper, garlic and I'm not sure what else.

Thanks, Eileen. I'll proceed as I had planned.
Teresa, it's a Slovokian cookbook and the rabbit is braised after marinating. My two favorite favors with rabbits are marjoram and mustard, but not together.

I say don't call it "still" wine. Call it "flat" wine to be terminologically correct, wine that is no longer efflorescent, as in flat beer.

A still is an apparatus used to distill alchohol resulting from fermentation, as in moonshine.

The opposite of "bubbly personality" is not "still personality".

When sparkling wine is too old, is it still wine? Or is it "still" wine? Or is it vinegar?

One of my favorite rabbit dishes is 'lapin en gibelotte'--essentially a fancy rabbit stew with white wine, chicken stock and mushrooms. Delish.

Maybe it was a typo? Could be they meant to use still white "wine", better known as Granny Clampett's Tennessee Tranquilizer, fresh from the still. :)
