The Kitchen Table

Cute Joke

A young boy comes down for breakfast. Since they live on a farm, his mother asks if he has done his chores. "Not yet", said the boy. His mother tells him no breakfast until he does his chores.

He's a little ticked off, so when he feeds the chickens, he kicks a chicken. When he feeds the cows, he kicks a cow. When he feeds the pigs, he kicks a pig.

He goes back in for breakfast and his mother gives him a bowl of dry cereal. "How come I don't get any eggs and bacon, and why don't I have any milk in my cereal?", he asks.

"Well", his mother says, "I saw you kick a chicken, so you don't get any eggs for a week. I saw you kick the pig, so you don't get any bacon for a week. i saw you kick the cow, so for a week you aren't getting any milk".

Just then, his father comes down for breakfast and kicks the cat halfway across the kitchen.

The boy looks up at his mother with a smile and says, "You gonna tell him or should I".

I never "got" the point of spending money on gag gifts... I always try to get people something they can use or something they like or something they can *do*. Take photos & put in a scrapbook. Get photos from his family & make a scrapbook. If he reads, get a nice reading lamp with a fluorescent or soft white bulb & maybe a magnifier, like the lamps cross-stitchers use. big can (do we still call them cans now that they're plastic?) of his favorite coffee. renew his fishing license for him. subscription to National Geographic or other magazine. Give him a squeeze from his Kitchen Table nieces!

Molasses???????

To me, Sorghum and molasses are one and the same. At least, our molasses was made from sorghum cane. Then there was the concoction called Louisianne or something... quite different from sorghum. We did not like it. Too thin and funny tasting. One of my nieces in Memphis used to love a syrup called Golden Eagle that did not seem to be sold in Memphis and they always took some back from Mississipi. Did anyone ever make your own syrup by adding a flavoring to sugar water and boiling it? Sort of like Karo.

I couldn't think of an alternative word, yesterday ...

... was considering coming to ask ... but didn't.

The brain seems to be getting somewhat decrepit, with age.

Thought about it (not much), later, yesterday.

Then, as I opened it today ... another word that seemed to fit the situation appeared as if by magic, in my mind ... I've heard that a problem that seemed big, the day before ...

... gets solved in a hurry, next day.

So, it appears that our brains do work, overnight.

On even quite trivial issues.
