Thanks for the nice compliments, Snowyshasta and organic-donna. We absolutely love our bathroom, now that we've been using it for a few months. We also saw this design and "borrowed'' it. Actually we saw a bathroom in a showroom, and immediately knew it was what we wanted -- the colors, the look, the fixtures. It wasn't too feminine, or too masculine, but just right for a his and her bath. I just asked my DH what he liked best about the bath (he's sitting here watching basketball), and he said the shower. It is equipped with three heads -- a handheld, a stationary one and a rain head. "It's like being in a spa,'' he said. I love all the storage. As you can see it's not a huge room, but we created a serene space for the both of us, with every nice feature we wanted, and with enough storage for all my girlie things away from our three teenage daughters, and our collection of nice towels. My husband loves having his own space too. His, of course, is not as packed as mine, but we actually still have some half empty drawers and shelves. The tower is so handy. Our cabinet maker tried to talk me into making the glass doors on that tower a frosted glass, but I insisted on clear glass, and I'm glad. Doesn't look great in the picture, but I love that I can see everything in there. You can always hide things -- like first aid medicines -- in pretty baskets and still keep them there. We love the radiant floor heating, and we especially love the Robern medicine cabinets, which have mirrors inside the doors and even along the back of them. Love, love love our new bath. It was costly, and like you, Organic-donna, we worry about money, especially with the economy being as it is. But we think we were smart shoppers about everything we bougtht, and know that if we ever want to sell our house (but we have no such plans), we'll get our money back. We built it for us, and every single day I am grateful for this pretty bath and have no regrets that we did this. Besides, I grew up in family of nine -- and we all shared one bath! I'm done with sharing.

Several of the dealers specializing in vintage bathrooms sell retrofit pressure-balance kits that go right in the wall and work with just about any plumbing brand so that older bathrooms can be brought up to code without completely destroying their old plumbing, but they work just fine with new plumbing too. Signature Hardware is one dealer, but I know there are others. If you're not using chrome or brass for the shower hardware, the chrome cover can be painted; scuff-sand with fine sandpaper, prime with a good metal primer, and paint to the desired color. Spray paint made for metal works nicely. Allow to cure for several days to a couple of weeks before installation, and don't use harsh cleaners or abrasives on the cover. It may peel several years down the road, just strip off the old paint and repaint it. An easy way to remove paint from hardware is to line your crock-pot with one of those heatproof baggies they're making for that purpose nowadays and put some hot water in it with a few tablespoons of baking soda or fabric softener, or a good squirt of dish soap. Toss the cover in there and let it cook along on low overnight. In the morning the paint will peel right off (let it cool first!). Scrub off any remaining traces with one of those green scrubbies and rinse well. Allow to dry thoroughly before repainting. If you don't have a crock-pot and have a whole bunch of hardware to strip because previous owners of your house were idiots and painted right over it, may their armpits be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels, you can usually get one for $2-3 at a Goodwill, or very basic ones are normally about $10 at KMart sorts of places. (If you have a crock-pot dedicated to this purpose you don't need to use the baggie thing. I'll be getting one, since every! single! freakin! door! in this house - and this being an old house, every room has at least two LOL - has two hinges, two doorknobs, two keyhole escutcheons, and a mortise lock to strip of umpty-ump layers of paint.) If you don't have a crock-pot and you just have the one thing to strip, try putting the aforementioned ingredients in a pot, bringing them to a boil, adding the hardware, covering the pot and setting it aside overnight. I hear this may not work quite as well as the crock-pot but it does work.

Thank-you for the info! Spent an hour and half at a plumbing supply showroom yesterday! Won't know until room is gutted what the current drain lines look like and if it will be easy (and not expensive) to move the toilet. Everything hinges on the toilet! haha. Picked out items that I liked but didn't order anything yet. Like the Kohler Artifacts line and the faucet is similar to your Moen's @crl. Will probably go with that line's shower head and hand held, Memoirs Stately toilet. Think it all keeps within the traditional style of the room and house and still clean lined. (liked the Grohe lines, too, but thought the Kohler Artifacts line was a better match for the room). Even picked out a drain cover--who knew there were so many choices! And no tub. In fact taking out the tub. Rarely used, gives us much more room to play with and we have two other tubs in the house.

Love the flooring and vanity. I would use a neutral white for the walls and nickel hardware. In my experience, ORB needs to be wiped down after every use or it looks spotty. In addition, with the rest of your house in greys, I wouldn't go too brown in here. I agree with Sabrina Alfin Interiors, I would look for a soft blue or sage patterned shower curtain.
