Master bath faucets, shower fixtures--help me narrow down choices.

I am in the beginning phases of my master bath renovation. We have a leak in the shower (not the pan) and decided it is time to redo our dated bath. Will post the drawings as soon as I can, although nothing is finalized yet. I have time today to begin looking at shower fixtures and vanity faucets. Please help me narrow down my choices! I am going to go with chrome, and thinking of a shower head and hand held in the shower and double vanity sinks. Style of bath will be traditional/transitional in keeping with my 1925 tudor style home. Thinking of gray stained vanity, marble ( a nice porcelain look alike) subway tiles in shower, white vanity top and larger "marble" tile floor. Shower floor - a coordinating tile with gray accents. Any suggestions for a few plumbing lines to start looking at that have a good reputation for quality and durability and fit the style of the room? Anything else to consider?

I have Grohe fixtures (chrome) in my 2014 remodeled bathroom. I like them. As for style, there are lots of choices. It would be helpful if you'd post some inspiration photos, stuff you like.

I am planning to use this Moen widespread faucet in chrome for the ongoing bathroom remodel in our 1926 house. I'm going for a vintage feel.

Starcraft builders has very helpful reviews of faucet brands.

We used two of the lights - one over each sink. We did another bathroom in that house (we've since moved) - that bathroom was 5'x8', and we used one of the Artemide lights. It was plenty bright enough in there! We had the lights on a dimmer, which was really nice. Yes, our contractor built out a soffit above the medicine cabinets. It wasn't my first choice for how to do it, but it ended up looking really good. I wanted to recess the cabinets, but the Ikea ones are not made to do that, and the finish details were too complicated to make it work. So we decided on the soffit, which was much simpler. I wouldn't hesitate to do it the same way again.

Lovely sense of style! Bravo! We investigated porcelain marble look-alike tile but we decided on real marble which we will have to care for without any acidic products. Beware that there is a repeating pattern in marble look-alike porcelain tile like (on wall paper which will give away the secret.) We found great deals on Amazon and at Lowes for Bianco Carrara subways, pencils, chair rails and floor and shower floor hexes (1/3 the price of tile stores). We found a gorgeous remnant for our shower bench at a marble and stone shop at an amazing price. I can't wait until it's done to post photos! But back to your house... it's gorgeous!

As it's pictured, this is an awkward bathroom. I don't see a shower fitting into this corner -- I think you've gotta start from scratch and re-design this whole thing: - I never like toilet-in-a-closet designs; note that this one is about the same size as a public toilet stall -- those things aren't comfortable. The issue here is that when the toilet door is left open (which will be often), it blocks your main entrance to the bathroom. - The closet door in the center is preventing you from putting the shower on one side of the bathroom, which would be the most logical choice. My best stab at it -- and I don't think it's 'specially good: This does place the sink, the most-used item in the bathroom, immediately by the door. It tucks the toilet behind a wall, meaning it's hidden from view but it removes the problem of the conflicting doors and gives you more room for comfort. The shower is quite large, and the door is out of the way. And you're left with enough space for a wide linen closet adjacent to the shower. By moving the closet door a bit to the side, the shower fits in a more logical spot (more logical than the NE corner). Another thought -- simplify and reduce the space, allowing for a larger closet, yet you still have all the pieces you need:

A good quality manufactured shower base/receptor can be very nice. Kohler make some nice ones from acrylic and some from cast iron, I think the reason people don't usually like them is that they've stood on ones that flex....cast iron won't do that. Then there is stuff like Corian that is sold through dealers. They make the floor installation a lot easier, but you obviously have to like the way they look. But it is far more sensible to use a continuous waterproof tray made in a factory that you just put down rather than assembling layers of plastic, mortar, waterproof membranes and finally tile and grout that is not waterproof. I very nearly used a Kohler base, but they didn't make a large enough one in cast iron and so I would have had to get a custom solid surface one and it was just easier and faster to put down a mud floor and waterproof it and tile. I think your contractor should remove the existing floor as who knows what's going on with the liner or maybe install something like the Kerdi system that you tehn tile over. They have a system that makes a lot of the tricky aspects of shower construction quite simple.

I bought my chrome fixtures from Moen (the Brantford line). Will you have a separate tub? If so, consider a hand-held sprayer.

We also used chrome Grohe fixtures in the master bath remodel we did last year. Our style was more modern, but as Linelle said, there are lots of choices.

Thank-you for the info! Spent an hour and half at a plumbing supply showroom yesterday! Won't know until room is gutted what the current drain lines look like and if it will be easy (and not expensive) to move the toilet. Everything hinges on the toilet! haha. Picked out items that I liked but didn't order anything yet. Like the Kohler Artifacts line and the faucet is similar to your Moen's @crl. Will probably go with that line's shower head and hand held, Memoirs Stately toilet. Think it all keeps within the traditional style of the room and house and still clean lined. (liked the Grohe lines, too, but thought the Kohler Artifacts line was a better match for the room). Even picked out a drain cover--who knew there were so many choices! And no tub. In fact taking out the tub. Rarely used, gives us much more room to play with and we have two other tubs in the house.

On your Stately, are you considering one with the concealed trap way? I just put ours in, so far so good.

did you check? Have read that concealed traps sometimes are problamatic.

@ loves2read: Please explain how a concealed trap can be problematic. The trap is still there, it's more or less skirted.

I just received the Stately and the Classic to rate, so it doesn't matter to me how someone else rated them. So no, I wouldn't check his site.
