I like Earl..

I love Earl. My youngest dog was supposed to be an Earl(with an e on the end). I recently found pics of him on the computer when he was Earle. Unfortunately, I was overruled (yeah, once again)LOL, and he is now Chester a/k/a Chett.

He's adorable and best of luck with him! He definitely looks like an Earl!

What matters is whether YOU like the name Earl. If you don't like the sound of it or you associate it with someone you don't like, you won't enjoy calling him that.

Why don't you give us some more info on his breed, how you got him, etc. to give us ideas.

I agree, Earl is an awful name to hang on an innocent puppy. Sounds like an old redneck. How about Tucker or Frodo?

I like tucker.

My poor animals go weeks without a name, or with 5 different names in those few weeks. I always decide on a name, and then once they're home, I either hate it, or it just doesn't fit.

I always like more distinguished names for bigger dogs. They don't have that cutesy aloof look smaller dogs do, so those cutesy names don't work as well.

What names have you decided against, so far?? Or is it just earl?

Earl doesn't really make a great call name for a dog imho. Try calling Earl out the back door or in a park..it sort of lacks any crispness a dog can focus on as "his" name. Sort of flat sounding if you get my drift?

He looks kind of like an Oscar to me.

They are guessing he's about 8 weeks. He was found alone after a snow storm on Valentines Day and taken to a kill shelter. LUCKILY one of the supervisors there got him hooked up with the adoption group I got my first dog from. The lady who brought him over to meet us said they were guessing he was a shepherd mix.. maybe some husky. He should be a large dog.

Our first dog went 2 weeks without a real name! I just called him Flash till we decided his name would be Riese. So I'm hoping to have a name ready for this one before he comes home to us either Monday or Wednesday!

As of lunch today we are leaning towards Addai. Its unique and well my boyfriend is a Colts fan :0)
I do like Tucker though!

When my old dogs passed away and we were thinking of getting another german shepard mix, my kids wanted to name it Kitty.
Here Kitty Kitty.....

Fortunately we just stuck with cats. :-)

Live with him a while, he will name himself.

Growing up we had Pokey, yes he was a Basset Hound so the name fit according to TV but he really earned it because he was really pokey about going, he had to sniff forever.

Lady thought she was a Lady fit to be spoiled.
PJ was named PJ because if my my brother threw his PJ's on the floor in the morning, that is where you would find him sleeping.

Angel was named Angel because she was a runt and the vet said she would never live. Bottle feeding and such she lived to old age and her name fit her.

I became an adult and I had a Sandy because she was the color of sand.

I had a Romeo because even when he knew he was in trouble, he would give me a look that wrapped me around his paws.

I now have a Cindy. She is an old girl and came to me with that name. No sense changing a name she knows when she is in her senior years. I have had people say oh, Cindy is my mothers name or my sisters name, why would give a dog a human name? I just say it is a good name.

Watch for giving dogs people names. Earl isn't a popular name for humans now so you might be safe.

I like Colt. :) Very adorable - puppies make me so weak... I can just smell his puppy-breath now. Lol.

Earl is cute but too trendy I think...How about Charlie? He'll probably be a big handsome fellow so keep that in mind.

I'd probably name him Blaze for the white blaze down his chest.

Grammys post reminds me of what people say when they hear MY name. I get "Oh, I had/have a dog named Chelsea!" Thanks mom! *rolleyes* lol.

Personally I like human names for dogs/animals...my cat's name was Bob and my last dogs name was Bubba...boy was he ever a Bubba but he was named and grown when we adopted him. My poodle's name was Michelle, I've had a Cindy, a Goldie, a Penny, Kitty Lou, a Fifi, a Doodles, Sloopy, Boots, Tiger, Bogie, Freud, Toto, an Apollo(horse), Flick(horse)...on and on...haha! Sheew....

Just to look at his coloring, I immediately thought of some names like Chestnut, Mocha, Sorrel, but my favorite would probably be Nestle. Whatever name you pick, you sure do have yourself a little cutie.

Earl is okay, but I like Chay...

Very cute puppy. I'll bet you can't wait to get him home. My grandson who was 4 at hte time, named our granddog "Cheeto". Yes he was eating Cheeto's when his dad brought the puppy home. That's a lot better than Vaccum Cleaner which was his first choice.

Its between Bronson and Addai! I prefer Bronson.. sounds like a strong dog! Of course I'm losing b/c everyone around us seems to think Addai is great for a name. Luckily I'll be happy with either.
Our new pup will be coming home Saturday morning!! I'm VERY VERY excited! I've been puppy proofing the house all week!(which actually has been great b/c it forces me to sorta "spring clean")

I like them both :) I'm excited for you, he's gorgeous. (jealous is more like it - lol)
