Our New Baby Boy Puppy!

Hi everyone! Many of you probably remember when we lost our Golden Retriever Riley in the fall. (I posted the link to the original post below.) Riley's loss was devastating to us. He was a loving member of our family. Well, after allowing much time for grief, we felt it was time to adopt a new Golden Retriever. Today, we brought home a beautiful, baby boy pup. We named him Marley after Marley in one of our favorite books, Marley and Me. What a sweet pup. We love him and the kids love him and so does our 8 year old Golden Retriever, Gracie, who has been sad ever since Riley passed. Wanted to share the new addition to our family! Bear Hugs! Kirk

oh gosh, he looks like a little stuffed animal. How totally adorable. I bet Olivia wants to sleep with him!
I would too, LOL. I think Marley is a perfect name for him, and he certainly will be good for Gracie. Older dogs really can perk up with a 'kid' around. What does Toeby Cat think tho?
Have I told you lately I want to be neighbor? Between the children, the new pup, and your gorgeous yard, I'd probably pitch a tent and be a pest. LOL.

There is still hope! I've been in touch with the rescue group that has her and have filled out an application with them. I'm not "local" to them, but they'll consider us with a strong vet reference. The foster mom said that she never broke out with parvo symptoms, so they plan to watch her for about another week just to make sure she is through the woods. Keep your fingers crossed!

Oh, Colleen, Calvin sure is a cutie pie! He looks so serious under his nice shady hidey place. Thanks for posting the picture and please keep the pix coming. Giving Bonnie a haircut wasn't easy. Puppies are a challenge, but first haircuts are the worst. It's not easy to give a haircut to a moving target! For doing around the eyes I use thinning shears. They are blunt on the ends. They give a nice raggedy natural look around the eyes. Straight or curved regular blades tend to give a chopped look I don't like. To work around the eyes I grab a hunk of beard to hold their head steady. I don't want to take any chances of poking them in the eye. I think if you call a groomer and ask for a tidy up on a pup who's not quite ready for his first full haircut, and take in a bathed and brushed/comed (to the skin -- no mats) dog they aren't going to charge you much or take very long. It would probably be a good junior practice session for Calvin too. I wish you lived next door. Our pups would have such fun romping together and we could train them together too. :)

You are doing the right thing. I believe that only people who know what they are doing (qualified breeders) who KNOW they will have homes for the puppies/kittens should breed. What is worse is that you don't have homes for all the puppies. The female's owner doesn't want responsibility. Is the friend going to place all the puppies? How would you feel if some end up at a shelter? I also have to say that I think this person may want one of the puppies for the wrong reason. She may think the puppy will be like the grandfather in some way. That she can recreate her lost dog.

What a sweet puppy! Almost makes me want to get another one - Sept. will be 2 years since we had ours put down because of health problems. Sure miss the company when I'm working outside.... I'm sure your kids are enjoying him.

Ohhh how sweet he is!! I love puppies!!! I am sure you will have many years of fun with Marley!!!! Its so hard to lose one of your beloved pets but it is also a joy to bring home a new one(-: Congrats on your new addition!!!!

Goldens are my favorites too! Oh how I love those fuzzy cuddly puppies. My "baby" is going on two already! She has been great for my 8 yr. old--he acts like a puppy again with her around. Love your puppy's name too, and I know he will be well loved. Luvs

That is one of the cutest photos I've ever seen. Your TWO precious little boys are going to grow up together and be the best of buddies for a very long time. And I sure hope we see the photos as they grow.

Both your boys are adorable!!!! I know how hard it is to loose one of your fur babies. While a new pup will never replace your old friend I feel like we're honoring their memories when we get a new baby.

That reminds me of a Christian song called Fingertips and Noses about someone taking care of children and not minding cleaning up the fingertip and noseprints on all the glass.
