Do you use a percolator coffeemaker?
Comments (32)Egg in coffee? That brings me back 50 years. We had a friend that entertained a lot, she's still around but not in great health. She put out a "perfect" cup of coffee. One day I asked her secret and she said it was the egg shells she put in the coffee pot. She used a stove top percolator, she said it didn't matter what you use. She threw in the egg shells with the coffee grounds and percolated away until the color was right. She did it camping in a pot or kettle and it all turned out the same. She didn't strain the coffee, grounds settled on the bottom, I don't remember any sludge. And, she always had a pot of coffee on the stove that tasted like she just got through making it. I never did try it, DH and I always had it at work and I could always take it or leave it. I wised up when I started having extreme headaches on weekends when I was skipping the coffee, jeeze....See MoreWhen A Septic System Goes Bad And No Repair Field
Comments (6)If there is just saturation (not clogging), you could consider using your current septic tank for a holding tank and just have it pumped before it gets filled up. We did this with a saturated leach field once by plugging up the septic tank outlet, and the leach field was usable again after a couple of months. The practicality of this depends on your ability to conserve water (low flow fixtures, no washing machine use, etc.). Also, amount of rain figures into this to some degree. On the other hand, if the leach field is clogged with solids, that's a longer term item. In that case I'd be looking at alternative systems as suggested by other posters above. The aerating septic tank approach sounds reasonable. Also, are you sure that original leach field is not usable? How long has the repair field been in use? Has the original leach field been re-tested for percolation? Needless to say, any leach field will last a lot longer with water conserving (low flow) fixtures, front-loading washing machine (or run the washing machine gray water into a dry sump if that's allowed by local codes), and so on. -Roger...See MoreAre we being duped with bad news?
Comments (25)Sorry, bernie, to have taken your thread in a direction you clearly did not want it to go. I looked at the thread title and saw a broader topic about the validity of most housing industry data. Still, I don't think one had to be a housing market analyst to have seen the handwriting on the wall 2 years ago. Creative mortgage financing was never designed for the average person. Didn't anyone wonder exactly how so many people were suddenly able to buy homes and at such high prices? I'm surprised at everybody's surprise that there would be a fallout. The Fed and Congress draw data from a range of sources and RealtyTrac is just one more source. But it does sound like RealtyTrac is aware their data is being misconstrued and is on a path towards remedying the situation. FROM THE LINKED ARTICLE: ---"RealtyTrac has acknowledged that discrepancies can be caused by foreclosure process variances, such as two lenders trying to foreclose on one house at the same time, but maintains their monthly data is more accurate than the quarterly data collected and published by the Mortgage Bankers Association. RealtyTrac's numbers represent each stage of foreclosure (notices of default, notice of auction, and bank repossession a.k.a. REO) where MBA's numbers do not. 'The Mortgage Bankers Association doesn't capture the REO because by then, the loan is dead,' said Sharga Rectifying the Situation To make everyone more comfortable with the data being provided, RealtyTrac recently announced they would be using a new methodology from here on out when reporting foreclosures. According to Sharga, too many people are confused by the current report. The plan is to break down the numbers into terms that are more easily understandable. RealtyTrac's July foreclosure report is expected to be the first report to reflect this new methodology."-----...See MoreNew Idea Percolating...
