HELP!!! Granite problem .. half inch gap !!
Comments (91)Too Clunky! Sclee I can see why you tossed and turned worrying about this. You know in your heart it is too clunky. The worst part is that this manager or owner is not being helpful. His company made a mistake! Period. If this is how they measure granite installations then he has had this problem before and will continue to have this problem with future clients. He is NOT a stone artist. Measure twice cut once. And cut to perfection. Use sharp tools and be precise. Measure every nook and cranny! If they can not fix this they need to give you a fair discount. And then you can hire some other Stone company to make this better. Trust me there are better stone companies out there. Granite installers/fabricators that have talent and truly care about their work. Shame on this company. I hope he does read these posts because he needs to straighten out his company. Quality work deserves excellent pay. This is not quality. I send you ((((((((((((((Cyber hugs))))))))))))))))))))) I wish I had a solution. If it were me I would have them take the stone out. Start over with new granite slabs and a new company. I know, I know you love the stone but do you really love the gaps. If it is not going to work you will forever be upset with the outcome. And you will find another beautiful stone. Perhaps this slab can be converted to a window sill or end tables or bathroom vanity, night stand, bathtub sill, desk, entry way. As for your DH. He is under stress too. Husbands like to solve problems and when they can't they become a little edgy, difficult, stubborn, or they turn it on to you saying you are "overreacting". Oh dear I am talking about my DH. ;> Thinking of you and sending well wishes to the granite. ~boxer...See MorePlease Help-Cambria Torquay Installation Disaster
Comments (111)Lien laws vary by state, but my general rule is that you should not give final payment to the GC until he provides you with signed lien release forms from all subs, precisely because the subs can file liens against your house even if you pay the GC in full but he fails to pay the subs. You contracted with the kitchen company, and they hired the sub that did the faulty work, so the kitchen company is ultimately responsible for the quality of the work. Assuming you have not already paid the kitchen company in full for whatever you owe them, I would inform them that you are withholding payment in an amount equal to the full cost of the counters until they provide you with a signed lien release from their sub (it is between them and the fabricator what financial arrangement they come to to get the release signed) as well as properly installed counters. In other words, don't pay until you get exactly what you are paying for plus a lien release from everyone....See MoreDisaster! Was just gonna get sink, big problems
Comments (49)Joanie, what brand of solid surface are you looking at? I have been looking at countertops for 4 months, and have definately found that at least in our area (northeast) granite and solid surface are priced very close. The budget solid surface colors are very limited as well. We actually had plan to go with an LG clor that was on special. I was really drawn to the seamless aspect of solid surface. When the price came in after templeting I was shocked. They charge an arm and a leg for integrated sink and backsplash. By the time it was all said and done it would have been more than a basic granite by about 25%, even more if I wanted everything completely seamless. So I'm back to the drawing board myself....See MoreAnyone else have a 'drying' sink?
Comments (46)Bentley--Before you lose storage space in the island due to sinks & plumbing in two cabinet bases, having to pay for 2 sink cutouts & two sinks, definitely check out the Oliveri sink I mentioned above. The D-shaped side is plenty wide + it's oversized front to back giving extra space for those pots & pans. The rectangle side is also plenty big--the size of 1/2 of most double bowl sinks out there. Both sinks are plenty deep. The measurements on my drawings were taken from my Oliveri sink at the widest parts of each basin--I think the actual specs listed on the sink basins are taken from the narrower ends. Here are a couple layouts I did for you based on your drawing to give you & your DW a finished visual. Your sink cabinet base in the middle of the island appears to be 36" wide. The Oliveri sink will require all 36" of it. Don't let your cab or granite guy tell you it can't be done as it's in my kitchen right now installed in a 36" sink base. I put a filtered water faucet on the smaller side with a larger main faucet at the divide. Here's a color visual of two separate sinks to the 30" & 24" specs you mentioned above: And here's a photo of the Oliveri sink model 885U/886U that is in the first layout: If you have a Hajoca Plumbing supplier in your area, many of them are selling off their floor model of this sink at a deeply discounted price. I know when I saw it in the showroom, it was the closest thing to heaven for a kitchen sink....See Moretoepytoe
