So Much for Spring LOL

First days of Spring and the the weather forecasters are predicting 6-8 inches of snow tonight! LOL I love the snow but hopefully we won't see that much.

So much for outdoor Easter egg hunts. Actually I think coloured eggs in the snow would be a lot of fun to find rather than walking through mud if the snow melts.

Tulips are coming up from the ground - last year the ones at the side of my house never bloomed because of a late snow.

Winter's last hurrah?

I'm wearing flip flops and we're supposed to get four to six inches today. *DUH*

names. ;-)

In this neck of the woods...Mother Nature continues to suffer from a rather severe case of PMS. The only way an Easter bunny is going to survive our windy weather today [30 - 40 mph winds with temps in the low 30Â°s] is if he's wearing lead based shoes...and some nice lady bunny made him huge ear muffs. Instead of Spring...it sounds more like I'm riding the high seas. No warm blooded vegetation has dared to raise its head around here....snow or no snow.

How about the shrub Flowering Quince? It's Chaenomeles something--speciosa, I think, but there may be other related species. I don't speak from personal experience, but I've seen it listed on hummingbird plant lists. It is blooming here now in Zone 6, southwestern Pennsylvania, and my native red columbines aren't yet. That would fit the bill for an early bloomer. A couple of days ago, I noticed a mass planting of these on a hillside beside a gas station, so it looks like they might be pretty tough, too. When no one was looking, I plucked a blossom off to test it for nectar, and the flower was just full of it! The flowers of these particular ones were sort of a coral pinkish red, and the 2-3 foot shrubs were just covered in blooms. I think they also can be found in white, but I suppose the hummers would prefer the reddish ones. Here is a link that might be useful: Hummer Flower list with Chaenomeles

Well, Kathy - be ready for the shock of your life - I certainly was - added my 17-yr. old stepson to my policy, and OMG - it went up by $600/6 months (full coverage) in addition to what I already was paying for full coverage on my Tahoe. They said it was because he was driving a "sports" car - I didn't know a Grand AM was considered a sports car! If he ever has an accident, I know I will be happy, but for right now, I am in sticker shock!

One day while walking the dog, & chewing gum I choked and spit out the gum, then got to thinking "what if someone gets murdered here, & all they can find is that gum, and they have my DNA and nothing else??? Of course now we tease about "don't spit out that piece of gum/candy/lifesaver" Since i was in the army, worked with mentally retarded patients, and took a training as dispatch, my fingerprints are in every database they could check, that would mean my DNA to right? (on the show it would.... )

One problem is that glass cutters can handle straight cuts, but curves are iffy. If your table top is round or oval, it is tough to cut, but a rectangular piece is easier to do. I also wondering if codes require the table top to be "safety' glass, e.g., glass that is internally stressed to cause it to fragment into many small pieces if struck. This stuff may be very difficult to cut in the usual way. If Walmart can not supply you with a replacement top, then make a replacement top or get a whole new table. If you make a top out of plywood, be sure to use outdoor or better yet, marine rated plywood. The other stuff will de-lainate in a short time. Finish the plywood with an outdoor rated finish. A marine varnish is good, but ti takes a longer time to dry than other finishes. Whichever finish you use, be sure to soak the edges where the end grain shows. The edge will require much more finishing liquid than large flat surface. Continue to brush the finish onto the edges as it soaks in. Stop the application when the rate of wicking slows, and lastly, apply to the large flat surface. Sealing the edge (and end grains) is critical for long life.

"Winter's last hurrah?" Anne, after the crazy winter we've had this year, I will feel blessed if this one is the LAST hurrah!! lol I keep looking at the radar loop for Ohio and hoping that it stays just to our north. If not, they're saying 2 to 5 inches for tonight with an addt'l inch tomorrow. Then temps will be 'well below normal' for the entire next week. Aarrgghh

Ahhh Shirley, you guys in Ohio sure do get most of the brunt of the bad weather especially this winter.

I have a feeling this won't be winter's last hurrah. We still have the rest of March and early April to contend with.

I have 2 little birds chirping merrily trying to build a nest in my eavestrough near my front door. I am hoping this bad weather will discourage them but I somehow think not. LOL

Hi Anne - glad you joined us. The area of Ontario where I live is known as the banana belt because we have warmer and more humid temps than the rest of Ontario. Spring usually greets us faster by a few weeks and flowers and trees bloom earlier so I feel sorry for the rest of my fellow Ontarians - their winter lasts longer.

Now they are saying 8-10 inches!

We got about 6 to 8 inches overnight and today. It's the wet heavy stuff. I'm more than happy to share.

It's cold here in NY, they aren't predicting snow but last night it was 28 with wind,it felt awfully cold. They say "maybe" we'll have a high of 40 on Easter Sunday. It's just too darned cold to hunt Easter eggs. I'm not yet in the mood.

Oh please Anne...keep it out your way...I am so tired of snow this winter!I'm east of Toronto,so maybe we'll get lucky this time.At least I hope so.

Yep, and it sure is coming down! Just got back from baking bread with my dad. It's the first snowy good friday we can remember. Usually it rains, but almost a food of snow? Yeesh.
