Baby 1st Birthday Party question

My youngest DD turns one next month (I can't believe it!) We are trying to figure out who to invite to her party. Naturally the grandparents (3 of them), but who else. She doesn't have any "friends" of her own yet.

Most of my friends & DH's friends are still single or no kids right now. I don't want to pressure them into coming to a kids b-day party, but I don't want them to feel excluded either? We don't get to see them that often due to busy schedules etc. I would like to invite them, to get a chance to see and chat and have them see my girls, but at the same time I don't want to seem like I am fishing for gifts. DD doesn't need anything really, we have so much.

I want to say something to the effect of: You are my friends, I want you to know my girls as they grow up and vice-versa. You have a standing invitation to their parties IF you want to come. IF not, no big deal.

I've thought about saying "no gifts" or something, but seems like most people bring something anyway. DH thinks it's awful to say no gifts for a kids party. (Birthday DD will certainly get some gifts from grandparents and us to open at the party). DH also wants to just invite everyone and if they don't want to come they make-up an excuse and say no.

Am I just making this more complicated then it should be?

Teresa

And yes, I know that the parties are more for the parents right now as DD won't remember a thing!
