Issue staining Red Oak hardwood floor (Dark Stain)
Comments (4)What you have in your pics is a factory finished floor. It is difficult to get that kind of consistent look when staining unfinished, especially if the unfinished has boards with mixed sawing characteristics. The face sawn material will take up and hold the least pigment and will be the yellow boards you are seeing. We can sometimes get a more even look by using a sand grit sequence to allow more pigment to be deposited on the floor and by doing what we call waterpopping; you may still get variations, but it will look as even as it's going to get. I don't do this...but some of my colleagues will first use an analine dye and then, when it is dry, will follow that up with a pigmented stain. Comments (6)I went with white oak also because I didn't want red undertones. My flooring co said red oak will usually have red undetones regardless of what color stain is applied. Mine are stained with a mix of 75% Jacobean and 25% Coffee Black (similar to Dark Walnut from the more common stain company). I love them! Not so dark that the show every single speck of dust or cat hair. That sounds like a cleaning nightmare to me! And shout out to Nini whose floor is my inspiration. She graciously supplied her formula to me so I could try to replicate her beautiful floors!...See MoreCan I see your dark(er) grey tile floors?
Comments (6)We used Italian Edilcuoghi porcelain tile canyon musk for our mudroom. It has grays and some brown. I really like the texture so the kids won't slip. It does come in other colors too. Right now it's covered with cardboard and not cleaned since we're still in construction mode. We used Gazzini - Montecito Echo for 2 bathrooms. Some texture but not as much as the mudroom. I need to take some pictures but you can see it on my blog (Jan - tile) At the end of my blog there were 2 other beautiful gray tiles too - if you want more info on them I can search some more. Here is a link that might be useful: tile selection...See MoreDark Cherry Cabinets, Can I see your hardware?
Comments (6)We did Cherry with a Ginger Glaze. Our knobs are from Home Depot and the Great Indoors - after bring home several dozen to figure out what I wanted as well as a few off the internet. I love ORB - our light fixtures, knobs, are door handles ORB. I will switch our our faucet at some point but we've been lazy. I would not use black with ORB. We got the free ones at the store that were more black than ORB and I didn't like them. I saved them for the basement for when we put in cabinets....See Moredoonie
