Randy Great pictures, and you should be able to even get better color, as it gets colder, do no water. Put in Western sun, if you have room for it there. Thanks for reposting, GG. This is just plain interesting. Don't mean to be insensitive, but it's a real who/what-done-it. There seems to be real clues, e.g. only one of the same cultivar, apparently with the same growing and maintenance conditions and the location (namely only the front one and problem focused only on one side of that one). Not to completely exclude others, but I like Ken's suggestion. So are there dog's around? It could be a pee/hit and run. It's the most accessible plant. Are there dogs in the neighbourhood and could a dog get in? Sometimes in garden maintenance you suspect, but don't feel sure about the root cause of a problem. Presumably that's because there's often not one single dramatic cause but an interaction of causes. You can also never be sure that an individual plant didn't come with an inherent weakness/susceptability, Still, in this case, what is the likelihood that that single plant would be the front one. It does seem unfortunate, GG, that the affected plant is kind of the lead plant in an attractively planted formation. Still a gardener's life is not (always) a happy one! So interesting.

Hi woodnative, Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm just north of the boarder from you, in Toronto, zone 6b. Our winters are probably similar to yours, too long, lol. Unfortunately I have to fight "she who must be obeyed" for balcony space in the spring/summer and she's been container gardening since before the phrase was coined.

I have them all over, but the ones that bloom the best are in sun from morning until about noon. I have a giant white four-o'clock in a south-facing garden that gets afternoon sun and it does well there. I've never grown mine in full sun. My grandmother told me they didn't like to get hot, and indeed, mine do wilt badly in the afternoons when it gets hot. I hear you about just needing one for seeds. I planted a bunch of triple yellow datura last year, and only two lived, only one bloomed and had seeds. Miraculously, that one survived the freeze and is coming back from the bottom. It should be gorgeous this year since it has a nice root system on it.
