Sylvia's right about topsoil- don't bother, it probably came from some construction site around the corner from you and is the same as what you have - or worse! Clay is very fertile, it just needs organic matter mixed in so it doesn't turn into grease when it's wet and bricks when it's dry. Get a load of compost instead and mix it in with your clay. You say "Not sure if I got enough." I have probably 4,000 bulbs on my 135 x 65' property and I am saying the same thing every fall! What you have is a great start and they will be beautiful. I'm not in your zone so it could be different there, but here most of the bulbs you mentioned are not spring bulbs, they bloom in the summer. Poppies bloom in the early summer and then the whole plant disappears when the heat hits. So it may not be the best combination unless you leave room for the poppies when you plant the bulbs, and then plan for annuals or something once the poppies fade. Good luck!

Reines has bloomed! :) It smells so wonderful! Ingrid, I have 2 antiques and then an Easy Does It, Strike it Rich, 2 knock outs and a tea rose. First year they're all in the ground so it's taking longer for them to bloom but so much fun coming home each day and seeing what treat my garden has in store. :)

pssst, Lowes in the Houston area all just got new shipments of cactus\succulents and there are a ton of these in there. As a matter of fact, they must have shipped to everyone because Walmart and Home Depot were both unwrapping the same cactus this past week. I was kind of surprised to see all the varieties of jades they had. You know I had to dig through all the boxes and picked up an euphorbia I didn`t have along with some nice little plants for a cactus dish garden. I myself do not grow them (jades), they do not like the humidity of the island nor our monsoon rains. There is a nursery up the road that has some enormous green jades that are in full bloom right now. They keep them in a very dry, very hot greenhouse and I think water them once a year. Don`t have a hot dry greenhouse either. I`ve mailed plenty of ball moss,Tillandsia recurvata, to Canada, as a craft item of course,not to grow or anything. That`s my story and I`m sticking to it.
