Paint Walls Before Installing Trim?
Comments (10)I always trim first. That way you can caulk all the gaps against the walls with a paintable acrylic caulk. I wipe it out with a damp rag and a square edge putty knife. When that’s done and all holes filled I paint all trim and doors. Move quick and fill the corner where the trim meets the wall. Don’t worry about getting lots on the walls as long as you feather it out. Once all flooring and cabinets are in I paint the last 2 coats of colour at the very end of the job. Never use painters tape when cutting in. It takes years of practice, a steady hand and an expensive brush to do a professional job. I make sure my jobs are flawless when I leave no matter what....See MoreTrim before or after prefinished hardwood installation
Comments (7)Im glad to hear they did what you asked. Keep in mind this is YOUR house. You are the boss. You are paying them. They need to respect your wishes. The cord wood as you call it can look nice. The trend these days is to go no quarterround or shoe. Just base. Now thats a decision for you to make but either way it will look nice. These guys who installed your base sound like bozos. They should have waited until the floors in. I can see why they didnt because the are going to add shoe. But what if you didnt like that look? Just some pondering on my part. Some things to keep an eye out are the following. Once the floor is installed, if you still have painting to do make sure the cover the floor tightly!! Over spray and paint drips are a pain to clean. Second. Your floor is pre finish. That means its a finished product. If you have crews traveling over it. Be agressive and tell them no shoes. No tools nothing sits on the floor. If thats not an option. Then insist the lay down something like foam or rubber mats to protect the floor. And finally make sure NOTHING gets drag over the wood. Everything gets carried over it. This is your job to be sure these things are followed. Lay down the law and stick to your guns. Its Your house! Hope this helps and good luck!!...See Morepaint door jambs before or after install
Comments (9)I'm not a pro like paintguy and christophern - just a woman who does things her way :). Several years ago we installed miles of baseboard, shoemold, door and window trim, and a house full of new doors. I primed and painted two coats on EVERYTHING before installation and after installation, I touched up the caulking, nail holes, etc. I say try it my way. Sorry guys!...See MoreWhy is the paint on our interior doors and trim sticky after cleaning?
Comments (33)I’m not thinking the quality of paint is really the biggest issue, at least in my case, it was the chemical in the wipes. I reached out to Clorox regarding their wipes and here is a portion of the response I received that indicates that the wipes are NOT to be used on painted surfaces. ”We again apologize for the miscommunication. According to our EPA Master label instructions, the wipes are not eligible for use on painted surfaces. EPA# 5813-79. Here is what is listed: For best cleaning results, avoid [soft -and/or- glossy -and/or- shiny -and/or- polished -and/or- plastics -and/or- metals -and/or- unfinished wood -and/or- copper -and/or- aluminum -and/or- painted surfaces -and/or- fabric]. [If in doubt,] [Test a small area first” I, of course, sent photos of the labeling that show they don’t actually have the EPA master label verbiage on their product and even some contradictory suggested use ( the package label suggests usage to clean stainless steel which not only goes against the EPA master label but is also an issue I ran into with the fridge in our new home when the door began rusting). So...FYI…in the age of the Coronavirus, if you are like me and wipe down the areas of painted doors where dirty hands or paws touch or if you use it to clean your stainless appliances…using a Clorox wipe is absolutely NOT advised....See MoreChristopher Nelson Wallcovering and Painting
