Can't believe I forgot these!

I love artichokes and can't wait for them to start hitting the store shelves this time of year.

I found some at Safeway the other day. Bought two.

Took them home, put them in the crisper and promptly forgot all about them.

How do you cook your artichokes? How long does it take?

I pop 'em in the microwave and steam them. Seems like it still takes a longggggg time though.

Just stopped at the Pazzini farm in Castroville yesterday to pick up some artichokes. We saute the very small ones in butter and garlic. The others we boil until done....depends on the size. Just keep testing the inner leaves.
We have artichokes year round here. We prefer the globes to the "frost kissed" kind.

Main Man "steams" the artichokes whole. It seems like it takes forever. Then we dip in Garlic Butter.

I can't believe the number of people who have never had Artichokes. We usually have them with company for an appetizer or snack.

It certainly appears to be Julia to me. I hope it's as great a rose plant there as it is here. My only two complaints are the short life of the individual flowers and how thorny that puppy is! It bites me every time. Otherwise, a marvelous garden and landscape mound of color. Kim

Thanks everyone. I'm sure my mother is happy knowing everyone admires her garden so much. She's been working on it for 50 years! There used to be a lot more grass. Grass may be a lot easier, but its a lot less fun. Used to be a lot more lilium, but the daylilies have increased in numbers. She hybridizes both, but has only registered lilies. It sure can be one of the side effects! But TKO generally manifests itself in 'over worry' about kitchen details (at least as judged by the non-TKO or a TKO's family member), and knowing more about appliances and materials than any salesman does or hopes to encounter! I do think that having kids (and keeping track of everything related to them) filled up my brain RAM, like on a computer, so TKOness probably does the same thing... :-D Warning...Another similarity in kitchen design to having a child: You go through that period where you swear you will never do this again, but soon after birth/kitchen completion, you start dreaming of the possible next one... I sure hope that means I don't have 7 more kitchens to go, though! Maybe just being a 'surrogate' kitchen planner here will fill my need...

I bought 2 about 3 weeks ago. When I was a kid my mom steamed them. I prefer to boil them. About 45 minutes (test by pulling on a leaf). A bit of vinegar or lemon in the water and I add sea salt and red pepper flakes when cooking. I eat with butter or mayo or aoli. The last time I mixed wasabi and mayo together and it was delish!

My husband makes great artichokes. Cuts the tips off the leaves with a scissors, then puts them in a steamer pot for about 30 minutes. Serve with melted butter and lemon.

I par boil and stuff with seasoned bread crumbs drizzled with EVOO and bake them. I also boil them.
