Hi, Northern neighbor! You can drop by here anytime! I want to add that you can also give some seeds needing cold stratification a try, since you'll probably have a few more weeks of cold nights. It just depends on how long a cold period the seeds need-many just need a few weeks. You can look up each seed's temperature needs in the Tom Clothier germination database. This info is more about what greenhouse growers do to get seeds to sprout, but it often shows a low temperature range and a number of weeks, which I think is a good guideline for what the seed needs from wintersowing. Oh, and we still call it Wintersowing until the start of May, since the weather can still be wintry for many of us! Best of luck to you

dawn......yep anytime i see the s word or big cat words i skip the post FAST.....my herbs are hanging in there, no drip irrigation yet where they are so i hope they did have mediterranean ancestors and hang tough.we hand water almost every nite but would love a good rain.molly and i got soap made 2 weeks ago and it is drying out for two weeks and then will have it for sale.eight simply to die for fragrances,some with essential oils and some with fragrance oils.the shea butter and avocado oil make it the creamy lather that moisturizes. whoever gets to the garden first in the evenings gobbles up all the little edibles as their "pay" for arduous labor...jeff got the goodies last night....... but I get off early today so we shall see :)

Just when I thought I had my citrus addiction under control, I planted a guava tree and wandered into this forum and now I am doomed. I know EXACTLY what you mean about the "hit". I live in South Florida, and went to the summer fruit festival at the Fruit & Spice Park in the Redlands today and look at what I got for $80 (this includes admission into the park and a mango ice which was really delicious! lol). These are all in 3 gal containers. Tamarind, dwarf june plum, ackee, black turkey fig, raspberry (I don't know what kind, but the lady said they are almost black in colour. If anybody has any idea what variety it may be, I would like to know. I did a search and maybe mysore raspberry?)So, to continue, my last purchase, a sweetheart lychee, which I MUST plant today or tomorrow because the roots are coming out of the bottom of the container. Never mind that it is like a thousand degrees outside and unbelievably humid! Yes, I am a happy camper! I might add, I passed up a jackfruit plant that was only $10. I was sorely tempted, but I have no idea where I would put it. As it is I am going to have to remove a couple of coconut trees to plant some of this stuff. I really enjoy this forum. I wish I had acres and acres to plant all the stuff I would like. I am so jealous of some of you guys that have the room to plant whatever you want. I have to look into what I could put into some really big pots that would thrive and give me some fruit.That way I can get EVEN MORE TREES!!! OK, I'll stop. I'm babbling. Just so happy about my purchases!

Some succulents don't mind growing indoors at all, but some have very limited growth periods, and in order to maximize that, growing them outdoors will yield you the best results. I leave my established plants on the roof, when it gets cloudy or signs of storm, back home they come. Base on personal experience, echeverias grown outdoors for a week can take those grown indoors months to achieve the same results. It all depends on what you want as a grower for your plants. I'm an opportunistic grower, so are my plants, so if there are benefits, I'll fully utilize it. Maybe that's also why I tend to over water my plants-- lol
