Anyone watch New Amsterdam last night?

I REEEALLY like this new show. How about that guy being his son? And his secretary 65 years ago was his daughter. I like the flashbacks, too. Puts everything into perspective. Is the actor's nose broken or something? Nevertheless, I think he's handsome.

I'm still missing Life and Dirty Sexy Money so much and hope this show lasts longer than they did. Have no idea what is going on with the shows that got lost in the strike, and this new one is quite nice.

I didn't because I was really disappointed with the pilot episode. I had high hopes for this show, too. Darn.

J, so was I but after watching last night, I figured I must not have given the first one enough of a chance. I lost interest pretty quickly, but last night's episode was very good.

I liked it! I'd heard that Edie will die, so thought he strangled her for sure, but then she got away from him. The electrocucian should have done her in, but the preview showed Susan talking to her. Maybe she'll live long enough to tell on her husband? Otherwise, we'll still have that revenge storyline going on. I like the new Carlos ... he's human now, and Gabby is becoming more human too, altho I enjoy little bits of her 'me me' attitude. I like that the marketing director/vp whoever, is gone because she talked badly to the cleaning lady and the children. I wasn't caring for her, and probably wasn't supposed to. Notice that she didn't apologize to the cleaning lady? hmmph. I missed whatever happened with Bree and her husband. I saw she was going to sell her company to make him feel better, then DH came in yakking about something and I missed the next few minutes. The next thing I knew, he was sleeping on the couch & breaking in to the neighbor's house. So what happened there, didn't Bree making arrangements to sell the company make him feel better? Or did she say something arrogant again? Oh! and I think the preview said the next new episode isn't until April 19???? What's up with that? Or did I miss something?

It wasn't on here in Canada. Did flip throught but not nothing. I don't want to watch it anyways. Don't feel its right seeing an unbalanced mom getting tons of money for doing something she shouldn't be doing. Those kids, all of them need loving caring homes with balanced parents who can care for them. Yes, the parents have done too much to make her that way. And as for Jon and Kate, I used to like watching their show but as time went on, got tired of the screaming from Kate. Seeing Jon miserable and unhappy and harrassed. Seeing the kids being hauled around, made to wear clothes for show when going out somewhere. And now being a single parent, its all talk about her and what she must do for her kids and will and blah, blah, again all about Kate. Its the kids I feel sorry for in both families. And why they continue on Jon and Kate show is beyond me. People do not watch to watch those two. And the show are ones they did way back, like the kitchen being redone, the cupboards it said it was January 2009. And I read on yahoo news that Kate went after Jon for the babysitter he chose. Can you believe that these kids have all kinds of different babysitters,etc. looking after them. parents bouncing back and forth and Jon locking the gates on their mom so she couldn't get in after the baby sitter. I go unreal, who wants to watch their show? Its not about the kids anymore, its about Kate and Jon and which one is telling the truth and who said what and on and on. I don't like Octomom at all and I don't want to see it at all.

Well, I'll stick my neck out & be an old poop ;) Recognizing, as mentioned re other new shows, that pilots tend to be overly broad in characterizations, I still found it offensive. In light of all the female body shaming that we've been seeing IRL, maybe I'm more sensitive to that. I have family members who have struggled mightily with weight issues and an athletic teen granddaughter who can eat more than anyone and maintains the physique of a model. I thought the show showed disrespect to both for cheap laughs. The Mom in me has a real problem with the overt sexual banter shown at 8:30 pm. That's a time when high schoolers may be watching with their parents. I cringe at the thought of my SIL in the LR with his 14 yr old DD when the husband character started lusting after his wife's boobs (his term). And when she lifted them up and said something like, "Because of my Spanx, they're part boob, part gut." Yuck, just yuck. I understand parody and satire, but I don't think a lot of kids viewing at this hour do. I found it disturbing when the Mom coached her little daughter - age 5 or 6 yrs.- to lie to slim prospective buyers of the house next door. The purpose was to get a neighbor who was fatter than the Mom so she won't be the fattest mom in the neighborhood (the Mom character often used the word fat to describe herself & others..) That was just sad, IMO, and not funny. I think shows like this one and Speechless, could work if the humor had a lighter touch, like The Middle and blackish, which I find appropriate for family viewing time. I think the lead actress is wonderful. A shame they seem to try to outdo each other for shock value and the shows lose their heart. --- Me, stepping off my soapbox ;)

Schoolhouse - I'll watch it all and hope that as the season develops it improves. Perhaps we're getting a condensed version since this season is only 10 episodes. The producers are hoping the ratings will be high enough to warrant a renewal. It wasn't bad and perhaps I should have added that I've read Edith Wharton and Henry James many times over the years and I may have been expecting the finesse and subtlety that are evident in their works. To be honest that isn't a fair comparison. I've always been fascinated by 'Novels of Manners' - The Age of Innocence, the Forsyth Saga, Jane Austen's works etc and really enjoyed shows like Downton Abbey, Upstairs, Downstairs. The premise holds true - The Gilded Age , especially in the Northeast, was a time of rigid social constraints where one's wealth and social standing determined your future. Gizmo - A few years ago I had the opportunity to spend a wonderful afternoon in the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. I knew about the infamous art thefts but I wasn't aware of her personal history. I may give it another chance. It's not like there are zillions of shows out there that are better... I kind of like Moonlight. What do you think of it?

I have it on DVR. I only got around to watching the first episode so far. It was ok, not great but better then most of the stuff out there.

Haven't seen Moonlight, but my cousin likes it and keeps trying to get me to watch. I think I'll give it a try, but it hasn't come back yet, has it?

I kind of like it too, much more than that other new one about the serial killer...that one I just don't get but I missed the first sho and probably just don't understand the premise.

I like the show, I think though after a while it will become fairly predictable. I figured out immediately why his dog was named 37 but it never occurred to me the old man might be his son.

I watched it finally and really liked it. I am sure it will be quickly cancelled now that it has the IowaGirl stamp of approval.

It is hard to "get" into new shows anymore. About the time the gather speed - they either go into a long hiatus or get cancelled with no warning. Almost not worth the effort any more.

Lynn, I have seen that one either. Glad I didn't. LOL

Clare, did you get to the second one yet? I really just watched the second show because it was on LOL. There was nothing else I wanted to turn to after American Idol, so I left the TV on that channel. The show kept catching my attention. Before I knew it, I was rewinding half of it to see what I missed. Watched the whole show and loved it.
