There is no question that the vanity is very traditional, and certainly not simple in its lines. However, I am not one who says everything in the house has to be the same. One nice thing about a powder room is that it can be a 'fun room', a little jewel that offers another feel in the home.

So, I think indeed it could work, and be very fun.

As for the wall stencil, while it feels more contemporary because of the black and white, the design feels traditional, and could very easily work in the space. In fact, the design of the individual unit in the stencil kind of picks up on the center design of the cabinet door.

I would think about adding light fixtures (ceiling if you have one, and over the vanity) that have a modern take on traditional lighting. Something like this, that has the crystals but done in a modern way.

I think the cabinet is gorgeous and agree with les917 that the shape imitates the shape on the door. I kind of think, though, that this cabinet begs to be the center of attention and that using contrasting colors with that stencil would be too much and would compete with the cabinet. I think using the stencil with two colors that are very close to each other so that it's a subtle look would be better. Like a cream and a lighter cream/ivory.

I noticed the same thing Les and Sasha's Mommy did with the stencil pattern and the design on the door. If I did the stencil I would do it tone on tone. In other words, satin wall base and the stencil done in the same color in either semi gloss or gloss finish.

sashasmommy, picking the color is my next step... I am drawn to dark tones for some reason and thinking in the brown family but need to figure that out. It makes sense that it should be a center piece and I love the idea of tone on tone.

It IS beautiful! But something looked unusual, and I realized it was what appears to be the lack of a toe kick area at the bottom. If it's in your home, have you stood in front of it to see whether people would be stubbing their toes/scratching it at the bottom front as they use it? That would be my only concern.

I Googled images of bathroom vanities and all that I saw either have legs or a recessed toe kick.

I think mixing antique and modern is "THE LOOK" right now. It's a piece with a lot of style....not boring to look at....I'd use it! The stencil you picked is gorgeous...

I think it's okay but I think I would try to find something just a bit plainer. There's a lot going on with the vanity and I think something without so much embellishment would be a better choice.

my3dogs, I never would have thought of this - thanks for pointing it out! It doesn't seem to be a problem tho - just stood in front of it. Maybe the curved bottom helps

htnspz, thanks for your frankness. This is the dilemma I'm facing.

pros: it's here and I don't have to do anymore searching (getting worn down with decisionmaking in this reno). It's unique looking, solidly/well built. Great price. The color of the wood is close to my new kitchen cabs.

cons: more ornate/embellished than I would ever pick out of a line up. The style is NOT like my kitchen cabs.

Am probably keeping it, dressing it up with cool lighting and trying my hand at a pattern stencil instead of paper.

I didn't mention the vanity, other than the pattern on it's front being similar to the stencil, because I didn't really care for it as a whole. After reading what My3Dogs wrote I know why. With that in mind I'll tell the carpenter no thanks unless the bottom comes off and it can be finished some other way. My guess is the "great price" is because someone else tried it and realized what My3Dogs noticed and returned it. I'd find a way to use your left over granite. Maybe something custom yet simple. If you post a picture of the half bath maybe you could get some ideas of how to use your granite.
