So Far Today

So far today, I have rolled out enough pie shells and tops for 12 pies and froze them, peeled and cut enough sweet potatoes for candied sweet potatoes for Easter and froze those, made two sweet potato casseroles and froze those. One of the casseroles will be for this Sunday's after church meal. I also had 3 of my kids call me and one has called twice. I also emptied up my dishwasher and added more to it. I am taking a break for a few and then I will try to get back at it. Hope everyone is doing well today, it is really nice outside here today in Madison County.

I would like to know more, than just Madison County... LOL, sounds like a good place to visit for Easter. :)

No cooking prep done here. No family gathering for Easter, and no fun to cook for DH on his absolutely NO fat diet (self imposed)

Come on over. We can set another plate. Actually they just sort of pick up their food at the big island in the kitchen and go to one of two tables I have leaves in. Dessert is in the dining room on the buffet and the drinks are on the Seller's cabinet. I really enjoy having people come over and eat with us and we get to visit. I went on a no fat diet once, didn't work.

I got up around 8am today and started the first of two loads of laundry, plus washed DD's competiton gym leotard separately. Then I started on her hair do for the meet today. Whew! That is an accomplishment! It's all about the hair, ya know. Did this tricky little spider-web thing that's become popular, then back in a ponytail, then the ponytail curled into spirals. Took about 15 tiny little clear elastics and a dozen little foam curlers, a handful of hair gel and a couple dozen squirts of hairspray. And over an hour of my time. ;o) That was extra special, usually I give it a really good ponytail, but very rarely go that extreme. I was feeling generous, and she asked so nicely. ;o) Here's the idea. This was taken tonight, after the meet, after 1000 tugs on the ponytail and lots of tumbling loosened the curls (and it doesn't hold curls very well, either). Honest, it was tight curls. Next time I'll remember to take the pic before the meet. While that set, and the laundry was drying, I cleaned out the van and went up for an oil change and the emmissions test. Then back home, made lunch for the family, showered and changed myself. Then we drove an hour to the gymnastics meet. Did that, had dinner, got back around 9pm DD accomplished some good scores! She had a great meet and finishsed first place all around in her age group and session. That is a first for her, so it was very exciting. She has been struggling with bars for a couple months, but today also finished first on bars, another first. And she's going to leave her hair like that for a couple days. ;o) Took me too long to take it back out already. I am not skilled with it, I have to compensate by taking my time and concentrating. I even tell her not to talk to me while I'm working on it, which is *really* hard for her. LOL! BTW, DD is 9. Now I'm going to crawl into bed with a book. Tomorrow is another day, and I have other tasks that have been waiting all week. Like getting caught up on my online class.

Heavy rain yesterday, water lying in puddles in various places. Some veggies coming up in garden, replanted some a couple of days ago that hadn't. Fed cat, (female canine) ... self. Listened to weekly evaluation of political situation on national radio, visited library. Was trying to double-side print a magazine some of whose issues I'd missed, but goofed yesterday in forgetting to request double-sided print ... so used a page that I didn't want to check whether printer prints on top side or underside, and which direction ... ... then printed some of the one-side only pages from yesterday with the other side. Then got a trojan horse, spyware etc. just after I came on here (was looking at the mayonnaise jar "would you use it?" problem, and think that I'd left it). Have some dishes needing doing at home ... and kitchen floor needs attention ... plus some straightening. Also, as gardening activity has begun ... there are some jeans and work pants that still have holes ... that were to have been patched over-winter ... but didn't seem to get done. Could there be something of a lazy streak showing, do you figure? ole joyful P.S. To help with communion at church tomorrow ... and should pick some weeds to take for greens. Then in the afternoon, there's to be a garden gathering with the Red Cross, to hear one of their people who has visited various countries where they help and I've been invited. One city library open on Sunday aft. Oct.-May ... but now on summer vacation. o j

Less than impressive. I was crying the blues last week because little black bugs got into a number of the turnips, that were growing well - I guess they thought so, too. Then quite a few of the tomatoes, which had been growing well, developed black leaves and stems, some of them on most of the plant, and where I hadn't been able to see the ground in part of the plot, and was preparing the staking for it, it got to where I could see the ground in a number of areas, and where they were thick, there were a number of stems and branches that were lying on the ground, some wet and rotting ... and some dry. I got up earlier than usual this morning, but instead of going out in the cool time, did a few things in the house and when I went out and began untangling some baler twine, it was so hot that I went inside of the shed where it was cooler. I need to add some strings to the pea vines and when I went to the south garden to do it there, found that the brace line from one of the end stakes had broken, so two at one end had fallen, letting all of the strings fall on both rows, with pea vines lying everywhere. I knew that I'd need to weed, so had taken the cultivator and did a lot of cultivating and pulling weeds from the peas, kohlrabi, peppers and watermelon. There's a huge amount of weeds yet needing to be pulled. I'll take the axe and chair down there soon to reposition the end stakes on the two rows of pea vines, then reposition the vines. I find that the edible pod vines grow much larger than the regular pea vines. Pea vines, one row and two rows of bean vines in the original garden need some more lines added, as well, and then there's more staking of the tomatoes, and cleaning out the crud from them ... a famous gardener told me on a radio phone-in on Monday to stake them, as they needed to have air circulate to stop the moulding. And, how does one remove the stuff that's contaminated without dropping spores off of them ... and avoiding touching the good parts of the plants with one's contaminated hands?? There are peas that need to be picked, and a bunch of beans, plus some lettuce and zucchini. Need to wash dishes, do a laundry and vacuum, as well. Plus - my right knee is showing out of my overalls, and I have some denim to patch it. Sometime when I can find some time. Also ... I need to sew some hook-and-loop fastener tape to some elastic so that I can make a retaining belt for my underwear briefs, several of which are so old that, the elastic having lost its zip, like to hang down around my knees: not very useful, when it's located like that! Need to get some milk, too. And some investment records that I keep are behind, as well. Oh, yes - I need to write a cheque for the Income Taxc people, as well ... they compound daily on amounts owing that are unpaid. I asked my furnace oil dealer the other day, who charge interest rate of 1.5 - 2.0% per month on unpaid balances after about 60 days, what rate they pay on credit balances, as they've held a credit in my account for several months. As it turns out that they pay zero per cent ... so I had them cut me a cheque and I need to deposit that. That should keep me busy for a while. ole joyful

Wow, you've been busy this morning! I worked yesterday, till 8pm and then stupidly stayed up half the night reading on-line, e-mails, here and another website I go to.

Woke up the first time at 6:20 to get the kids up for school, went back to sleep after they got on their buses. Didn't get up again till almost 11:30. I feel like a slug. Last week when I was off I had to get up and stay up because of my car problems and I felt so much better, even with less sleep.

I'm eating my breakfast now, doing a load of laundry and will do my workout before showering and going to the store for a few things and gassing my car up. It's going to be a busy week. Lauren's having a big birthday party in a couple weeks so I have to start doing a bunch of cleaning, especially the carpets and the sunroom, where they all plan to hang out. I work two more days this week, Friday have a doctor's appointment and then Alex has another ACT test on Saturday. At least I won't be laying around sleeping most of the rest of the week.

I think I'm going to do all the carpets today, it's supposed to be fairly warm today.

No, Linda, Indiana. I have the book I think it is called The Bridges of Madison County, someplace :) I think there are several Madison counties. I know of one in Illinois.

OMG.

I got up, did my hour exercise, made the bed, showered, had a cup of coffee, while I straightened up the house and that's it. I haven't done another thing.

It's unusual for me, usually I'm quite busy but today has turned out to be a "do nothing" day for me.

I have defrosted a bag of chicken/sausage gumbo I put aside when I made a big batch last month. I will make some long grained rice, throw some garlic toast into the oven and call it good - :)

I'm so impressed, do you stay this busy all the time or is today an unusual day?
When I first retired I was a whirling dirvish - but now I pace myself. I should really light a fire under me, I want to tear up the bedrooms and paint them. Just thinking about it makes me need a nap. ;)

This afternoon I haven't worked in my kitchen. I did do a load of laundry, dusted the living room and put almond oil on the hardwood floor in there. Trying to get ready for Easter time. Now I am going to have to go down to my kitchen and see what I can fix for our supper. I have some hamburger thawed. Maybe some salad, a baked potato, and some asparagus. Still have some angel food cake left.
I think I am about done for today with work! Tomorrow is another day. What exciting things are everyone else fixing to eat?

I am busy most of the time. There are some days I don't feel all that well, so those days not as much get done. I can't seem to find the time to get into my sewing room or get everything I want to get done. Now that spring is coming I will have to find time to work in the mowing of 3 acres. I love to mow though. My Mother mowed her own yard, riding mower of course until she was 91! I love the out doors.

So far today? I have drank some coffee, played on the computer, met a friend for lunch, did some shopping, came home and started playing on the computer again. :o) Later I will meet my bookclub at a local cafe for dinner and to discuss our book of the month.
