We are doing this job in a very small town & everyone there said it could not be mixed or purchased. I will call BM to find out more about that Ironclad product today. www.myperfectcolor.com could be a solution for you. I use them a lot for clients in remote locations that either do not have a BenM store close by or their BenM store is small with limited product. The smaller BenM stores will have a decent stock of paints for interior but it's the exterior, like MoorGard in quarts, etc. that they don't always have handy and it takes 'em too long to order it in. And then there's Aura; not every BenM store offers Aura. Myperfectcolor almost always ships the same day. Orders over $50 are free shipping and their prices per gallon are reasonable.

Here's my $.02 on Aura. I used the satin in White Dove to paint primed beadboard and it covered in one coat. When I used it on the trim and doors, it took 2 coats to look nice. I used Aura matte in Putnam ivory in on primed walls and one coat didn't quite do it. It touches up great. I need to touch up the cut ins - the walls mostly looked ok, but since the room was small it was almost as easy to go back over it for a second coat and it came out great. We used it on the ceiling of the basement. In one room we basically did one heavy coat and it came out nice. In the other room, we did what the paint store said and did one coat, left it alone and had to go back over it for another coat. For us novices, its easier to work with because its thicker and doesn't drip off the roller. I'm undecided whether I like the Aura satin or Muralo Ultra better for trim. Cathy

Thank you so much Christophern and Brushworks. I'll give the Fresh Start Superior and 220 sandpaper a try. (When I asked the question, I wasn't aware that the Superior was different from the regular Fresh Start.) By the way, Christophern, I love the comment you post: "Better to leave the walls bare than to put Behr on the walls." I confess that I actually do use Behr (flat) paint on my walls because I can't afford BM paint especially since I often end up changing my mind about the color. I've been happy with the wall paint but the Behr semi-gloss and high gloss didn't work well at all for painting furniture and doors. It was too thick and didn't level properly - left a lot of brush marks. Until I found this site, I thought spraying must be the only way to go. I'm so grateful to everyone here for setting me straight. It would no doubt have been another disaster to spray with Behr. I can't wait to try the Ace paint. Thanks again!

Once I deviated from my preferred Zinsser Bullseye 123 and used Fresh Start. In our family room, tinted to match the top coat color. Not a bad primer, IMO, no issues and it's been 6, 7 years or so. This is where you're going to have to go to a specialty product: Will it cover a light smoke/soot from a ceiling (had minor flare-up on cooktop) We have a rental property that was absolutely trashed by candle soot. Walls, carpet, tile grout, etc. I still can't get the soot out of the vinyl of the newer window frames, just sucked that soot right up. DH tried to scrub the walls with Dirtex or Soilax (standard paint prep cleaners we use). It removes most everything pretty well (including cooking grease) but areas soot was worst all it did was smear it around and it left the wall slick -like wax paper. Doubt any all purpose latex primer would have adhered. Ideally we should have used a shop vac first, then one of those dry sponges for smoke/soot damage. Anyway, we got it cleaned as best we could & on advice of our local paint dealer we ended up sealing walls with BIN. It's shellac based, for fire & smoke damage, etc. Then top coat over that. In a few months it will be 4 years, the paint is holding up just fine everywhere, no issues, looks good. Were it me, I'd probably use the BIN in your entire kitchen just to be safe.
