Water-based Primers - Kilz, Primecoat2, 1,2,3, etc
Comments (4)QUOTE:::Any water-based primer brands that you like better than the others for interior walls and cabinets? I'm looking for water-based (even for over built-ins with existing alkyd paint) There are several great primers, but again primers have their place and different primers do different jobs. Just normal change of color, minor (not medium or above repairs) once in awhile painting, then your Zinsser's 123 may be ok for your walls; built-ins I would sand with a softback sanding pad , then use XIM-UMA primer or Zinsser's -Smart Prime....See MoreBest primer over joint compound
Comments (9)I use Murco high solids primer at $38 for 5 gallons but any drywall primer will work. Home depot sells a drywall primer by kilz pro-x maybe in drywall area. more expensive primers like fresh start work but compound soaks up a lot so the cheaper stuff is more economical. drywall primer adheres great to compound and paper, but it wont seal stains or stick to everything like zinzer cover stain or other primers of that type. Gardz iis for repairs, torn paper after wallpaper removal etc....See Morezinsser bin primer & tsp
Comments (10)I don't about the need for not using these products together, but do you realize that you actually didn't use TSP, you used a TSP substitute? So you may be worrying about a non-issue. TSP has been banned for cleaning purposes in some areas. Let it dry thoroughly and try a test patch somewhere. Ammonia is what you clean BIN/white pigmented shellac brushes with after you are done. Be sure to use a a lot of ventilation when applying BIN/Zinsser products - they will give you an awful headache in close quarters. If you think there's a problem with the combo you can rinse, again, and then let it dry. I think you'll be fine, though. Molly~...See MoreBest primer for new plaster?
Comments (7)Not oil. Veneer systems (Blueboard + 1 or 2 coats of veneer) claim to be paintable in less than a week. Three-coat gypsum plaster over "lath" needs four weeks. Real lime/horsehair plaster needs 90 days to cure enough before you should dream of painting it. Beyond those calendars, feel it; if it is at all cool and clammy, it isn't ready for paint; that goes for drywall mud, too. Casey...See MoreChristopher Nelson Wallcovering and Painting
