    chilled cider
    appetizer

Turkey (cooked on the grill) and a tofurkey
    gravy
    dressing
cranberry sauce (both fresh and canned)
    sweet potatoes
    broccoli salad
acorn squash with couscous stuffing (vegetarian)
    rolls and butter

    iced tea

cake (orange recipe from Giada recently)

    Turkey
    Giblet gravy
Cornbread dressing (Southern style, Martha White recipe)
    Mashed potaoes
    Green beans
Tyler Florence's easy cranberry sauce (just the berries, the juice of two oranges, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Nothing measured)
    knowing my sister, deviled eggs
    probably some rolls

    Mom's fudge pie
    Mom's carrot cake
sweet potato casserole topped with an almond streussel that is turned into a pie. I just don't get why my family wants the casserole for dinner, so sweet for a meal?!!!, but they won't let me do nothing. I have to make this and a pie is my concession.

I was hugnry before I started reading this thread. Now I'm full! :) Alexa? Cranberry biscuits? This sounds like something I need to know more about. Alton Brown is probably the only person who could convince me that diary and green beans belong within a mile of each other. I have no clue what I will be doing. MIL called this morning and wants to do something up her way. Given her cooking is not what it used to be, I'm hoping that means "reservations" because she's reticent to relinquish control of the kitchen. Frankly, I'm hoping to convince her that the traffic the next day will be so horrendous that she should either come down here or do her own thing with other relatives. I'd be perfectly happy spending the day with a turkey sandwich and a couple Hepburn movies. :)

We do a fairly traditional Thanksgiving here. This year we are just hosting my parents as well as MIL, who is flying in from West Coast. We are looking forward to having her as she usually spends the holidays with dh's siblings. For the last couple of years, dh has smoked our turkey but he is going to London on Sunday and won't be back in time to do the prep work, so we will just roast in oven as we used to (my preference actually as I don't like the smoky flavor but don't have heart to tell him!). We will also have make ahead mashed potato casserole, homemade gravy, sweet potato casserole with pecans, chestnut stuffing, cranberry sauce from a can (I'd rather have homemade but I don't eat it and kids/dh/my parents like canned so I won't bother unless MIL doesn't like it), roasted vegetables. Possibly rolls for kids, adults won't eat with all other food.. For dessert, pumpkin chiffon pie, traditional pumpkin pie, my mother's chocolate pie b/c my kids love it. We may have apple pie too, but save it for another night when we have leftovers.

I love all kinds of shellfish. But I have no desire to eat bugs. I always found it a bit bemusing that we find land bugs icky but are fine with shellfish which are more related to insects and arachnids than they are to any fish.

Thanksgiving at our house this year will be much different than usual since it is only Bruce and I.

We both are not that fond of turkey or having a bunch of left over turkey. This year we decided to do a meal that was more to our liking and not as many dishes. We just dont need all that food for 2 of us. It's going to seem strange just the two of us, but the food will be good!

    Crabcakes for appetizer
    Prime rib on the smoker
    Paula Deans Mushroom recipe
    Broccoli salad
    Homemade dinner rolls
    Pecan pie

Enjoy reading what everyone is serving up for Turkey day!

Well, my big turkey meal was called off, BF's son is spending his turkey day with his mom so BF and I are all alone--YAY!! (Not that I don't love the son, just not the turkey). We thought BF had to work so my parents are spending the day with my aunt and her family and they didn't plan on us, so it's just going to be the two of us here at my house. So at least I can make a meal with some things I like. After pricing a duck and getting cold feet, I decided to just buy a small amount of boneless turkey for just the two of us.

Mulled cider, corn chips and guacamole for appetizers

Grilled turkey mediterranean style--with a yogurt and spice marinade. I got a breast for him and thigh for me.
    Green beans
Mixed veggie salad with beets and walnuts, poppyseed dressing
    Wild rice and bread dressing

Pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Hopefully the son will join us sometime over the holiday for some of that!

We are having what we call a "vagabond" Thanksgiving - everyone who has no place to go is invited here. It's our favorite way to celebrate (as we too are vagabonds).

Roasted turkey w/ white bread stuffing
Boneless Chicken (from Hebert's) with cornbread, jalapeno and crawfish dressing.
    Smashed rutabagas
    Smashed potatoes
    White rice
    Green bean casserole (yuck)
    Roasted Brussels Sprouts
    Roasted asparagus
    Glazed carrots
    Homemade gravy (made stock today)
    Homemade yeast rolls
Shrimp spaghetti (?? - guests from Mexico City bringing)

    Appetizers will be this

    with hummus.

Dinner will be a Kosher meal so quite challenging for me to keep it all kosher (strict)

Turkeys (yup 2 13 pounders) Spiced Brown Sugar Rub
    Gravy
    Mashed potatoes
    Sweet Potato dish
    Roasted maple squash
    Cranberry Jezebel
    Green Bean Almondine
Broccoli Dish (SIL is bringing so not sure exactly what)
    Green salad
    Pumpkin muffins
    Cornbread

    Dessert will be
Pumpkin Pie - will be interesting because not only does it need to be dairy free, The crust needs to be kosher too so I am making it in a Graham cracker crust and replacing the milk with soy milk
Praline Pie - friend is bringing this
Trifle - another friend is doing this
    Fruit salad

We are keeping it simple this year and trying to not have way too much food.

    Turkey (sister bringing)
    Gravy (sister making here)
    Crispy roast duck (dad making)
Prime rib, roasted in rock salt
    Mashed potatoes (SWMBO making)
Creamed corn w/ Baileys Irish Cream, or maybe creamed spinach w/ Amaretto
    Green bean casserole (SWMBO making)
    Sweet potato (sister bringing)
    Garlic-gorgonzola cake (SWMBO making)
    Cornbread (SWMBO making)
    Various pies (SWMBO has made)
Veggies and hummus (Costco platter stuff)
    Wine, cocktails, etc

Do you see how clever this is? I'm actually making nothing except a prime rib which is dead easy, and one side dish which I'll mostly make ahead and then finish right before dinner. Everything else is Someone Else's Job. I'll mostly get to stay out of the kitchen, which is good since it will be overcrowded and irritating. (I don't like "group cooking".)

We have 14 adults and several kids coming. Should be fun.

Ilana, that turkey appetizer plate is tooooo cute! We do kosher style too, I have come up with a dairy-free mashed potato dish that seems to work.

caminnc, ouch about your oven. My dishwasher frizzled out yesterday so I doubt it can be fixed in time for tomorrow's 12 at the table - I have a stash of nice 'china like' plastic that we can bring to the downstairs dishwasher in the bar. I have a repair man coming today, we'll see what miracles he can employ, LOL.

No appetizers here, the dinner will be more than enough

    Turkey
    gravy
dairy free mashed potatoes (or DH wants smashed potatoes, crispy)
    green beans almondine
cranberry sauce, jezebel and my own (with raspberries, Grand marnier, concentrated OJ)
stuffing - TJs, doctored up with celery/onions
sweet potatoes, with bourbon and cardamom, OJ, brown sugar etc.
    steamed broccoli
I asked someone to bring a Costco pumpkin pie (trust me on this)
Backup dessert: flourless chocolate mini-cakes, and Costco peppermint bark/salted caramel bark
    fresh fruit for the dieters
(Am I the only one who sees that people are too stuffed or not eating much dessert after the meal? Maybe we're all getting older, LOL)

What a cutie that little guy is!

On our menu (5 for dinner):

    Turkey
    Sausage dressing
    Mashed potatoes and gravy
    Broccoli-cauliflower combo
    Homemade dinner rolls
    Cranberry sauce (I think???)
    Pumpkin pie for dessert

A little simpler than some of the menus above, but there's only 5 of us for dinner and I'm cooking in my mom's kitchen. (No, I didn't grow up in this kitchen, so it isn't as familiar to me.)

    Ilana:

Dairy free mashed potatoes, LindaC style (stream of thought, no real recipe, LOL). Peel, cut into even pieces amount of Yukon golds, weight your choice. Boil until soft enough to be speared through with a fork - don't drain the water. Pick a serving dish, and place 1 - 2 sticks of margarine in the bottom, depending on how much fat/chemicals you want (grin). Sprinkle over them a couple of tablespoons pareve (no dairy, no meat) powdered chicken soup base. Using a potato ricer, start ricing the cooked taters over the margarine so they melt. Once in a while ladle a big spoonful of the potato water over the mixture, and use a whisk lightly to incorporate. Check for 'fat' mouthfeel/taste, adding more margarine as desired, and also adjust 'chicken' base for salt/flavor. The potato water also keeps it moist in place of milk. It very much depends on how much fat/salt/water you want, but you can easily vary it as you go.

Cranberry sauce: to the standard recipe, I add a frozen bag, usually 12 oz., of raspberries, and replace the water with about 1/2 cup Grand Marnier, the rest with concentrated frozen OJ. Another dish where you can vary the amount.

    Happy cooking!

We're done here. Shaun, that dinner guest is very handsome!

Jessica, I hope they fixed the dishwasher.

L2C46, that is a very cute turkey appetizer, a vegetarian option is always good (grin)

Here we had 7. Ashley and Kevin made it, still no baby. Amanda, Dave and the kids and me. Mother went to my niece's, it was "her turn". Mother is in great demand on holidays, LOL, and came here last year. Stepmother had dinner with her sister, saving me 120 miles of driving, one more thing to be thankful for.

We had a cheese ball with Ritz crackers to start, Dave loves that cream cheese/cheddar/dried beef/green onion mix, so I always make it for him. We also had some rabbit from the smoker to snack on while I got dinner "around", along with home canned pickled beets, sweet and dill pickles and olives. The main menu was:

Turkey (a 21 pounder for 7 of us, both girls took leftovers)
Sage and onion stuffing (I wanted to add oysters ala Seagrass but was roundly voted down, so Elery and I will have that)
Mashed potatoes (with cream and butter, not kosher at all)
    Gravy
    Butternut squash/whole wheat dinner rolls
    Broccoli with cheese sauce
    Maple glazed roasted sweet potatoes
    Fruit salad
    Fresh cranberry and apple relish
    French Silk Pie
    Pumpkin Pie
    Ice cream cake with M&Ms

    Happy Thanksgiving.
