The cherry cream pie and the lime gelatin salad which my children call "the green stuff" are a must. They would be bent out of shape if those two items weren't on the menu.

We are eating at my DB's so I am taking a Peanut Butter Pie(a favorite of DB & SIL) Cornbread dressin', and pumpkin bread. As of last night she didn't know what she was having...

We're having Gary's family over. Missy is bringing all of her bunch, and has volunteered to do all of the appetizers! Whohoo!!! That will be a big help.
Grace and boyfriend are coming. Emi and Josh are coming. Grace and Missy's mom (Gary's ex-wife) and her boyfriend are coming, and she volunteered homemade bread and rolls. Emi is living in Josh's mom's house, so I'm not going to ask her to bring anything. I'm sure that kitchen will be plenty busy. But I do wish Grace would volunteer to bring something. I hate asking though. It takes a lot of enjoyment out of people doing things to help if I have to ask. I might ask anyway.

But, here's what I'm fixing so far:

Two 12# turkeys. For fun, we're doing one in the NuWave and one in the Oil-less turkey fryer and will compare to see which we like best :-)

At least that's the plan! I have started making things already that can be prepped early.

We're having Thanksgiving with several other couples and some grown kids. Not sure what the menu will be - I'm not hosting. I'm making scalloped Eastham turnips and a cranberry chutney. We'll certainly have turkey. I hope whoever is cooking makes a good bread dressing. That's my favorite part of the whole meal!

I have never had noodles on Thanksgiving. I have eaten with Italian-Americans who made manicotti and lasagna as sides to the bird. I thought that was over the top!

I never have room for dessert and when I'm hungry again I'd rather eat turkey and dressing.

We are going to my nephew's house this Thanksgiving and I know that they are fixing a roasted turkey and a smoked turkey. I'm sure all the side dishes will be great as his wife is an excellent cook. We will all help with the preparations. Hopefully there will be pumpkin pie for dessert. There will be about 20 people at their house.

My part is sweet potato casserole topped with nuts, cornbread dressing, cranberry (jellied, and two kinds of fresh berry), and the pumpkin dessert. I've picked pumpkin cheesecake for my pumpkin dessert.

Mom is making the turkey and potatoes. Probably will also have rolls, a relish tray, and a fudge pie. My guess!

Sister is charged with bringing a veggie or two.

That's it. We're going simple. Sans chaos. We've had too many years of chaos. At least, I'm hoping it'll lack the craziness of past years. And hopefully, my biggest bro will bring his girlfriend and younger children. We need to liven up the place in a fun way. The daughter is hilarious! "Um, Robin, Did I ever tell you about [pause], um, about the time I ate the chocolate cupcake?" Or about the stuffed frog the cat plays with or whatever is on her mind. She always makes me laugh. "Well no, H! You haven't. Did the cupcake have sprinkles on it?"

Just son and myself. (he's going thru a marital split) and grandson will be in VA with his other grandparents.

We are paring down this year (unanimous decision) and will not be having appetizers. SOs of grown granddaughters will probably bring some wine and/or beer.

We also considered doing something different this year with the menu having foods with an Hispanic lineage. However, after lots of deliberation, we decided it just wouldn't feel like Thanksgiving and went with traditional food. We will have the Hispanic turkey and dishes at another time.

Well it's awfully complicated...
I buy the pre packaged broccoli slaw mix and a jar of the Maries slaw dressing and I dump both in a big bowl and mix it up. LOL
Actually I do usually add raisins or dried cranberries and either walnuts or pecans.

WalMart sells the best broccoli salad in their deli.

I don't believe I have ever seen broccoli salad in our WalMart deli. Will have to check that out.

Found their recipe, and it is delicious!

Broccoli salad

4cups broccoli florets or broccolini
1/4cup red onion, minced
2tbsp. SPLENDAî No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated
2tbsp. cider vinegar
2tbsp. mayonnaise
2tbsp. sunflower seeds, roasted and salted
3tbsp. seedless golden raisins

Directions

Discard broccoli stems and finely chop florets or broccolini. Set aside.
Place remaining ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Mix well. Add broccoli florets or broccolini. Toss until coated. Chill until ready to serve.

wow-you Americans really prepare and eat a pile of food!

This huge amount of food is often divided amongst a large group of people. I'll be having twelve or more. It makes good sense to have a choice of several dishes so that there is food for everyone. I don't make huge platters of any one thing (except the gravy and dressing), because not everyone is going to want everything.

My son is hosting the festivities this year and I am assigned dessert. I am making an apple pie and a pumpkin pie and a special cake for my new son-in-law called a Victoria Sponge! SIL is from Ireland and the cake is a favorite over there!
