Many blessings to all my southern neighbours on this sunny Thanksgiving. Well, it is sunny here! Cooking a turkey too just cause it is turkey time. Brussel sprouts, sweet potato, turnip, dressing, gravy, potatoes and corn on the cob to go with that turkey. Just my DH and a few friends who enjoy my cooking (what's with that?) and the dogs who don't really care cause they get turkey!

It is a beautiful, unseasonably warm day here today and I am so very thankful for all the blessings that have been bestowed upon myself and my family. :)May everyone enjoy life's menu!!:)

We did something different this year. Since I haven't been feeling up to turkey, cornbread dressing, and all the rest that goes with it, we had shrimp cocktail that we munched on while fixing dinner, followed by roast prime rib, #2 son's garlic mashed potatoes, pureed butternut squash casserole, daughter-in-law's steamed asparagus with lemon butter sauce, my very easy salad of Bosc pear slices, butter lettuce and chopped toasted walnuts, ending with a choice of pumpkin or pecan pie. I bought this beautifully decorated chocolate cake, but no one was interested. Later this evening after the Texas/Texas A&M game, we'll have strawberries with a delicious chocolate sauce (also easy) for dipping.

We won't be seeing #2 son and family for a few years, as they are leaving for Holland. So our Thanksgiving is full of joy with underlying sadness.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and pray there will be many more to come for you and yours, and all Americans.

Well, I was feeling a little sad, but reading Ritas post and nancy andGinnys, too, I am feeling much better, so thank you all for that.I am very thankful for my forum friends here, and my 2 daughters that lives close to me, as they are the ones that cooked our dinner today and then came after me to go eat with them.Turkey & Dressing, whole kernnel corn, broccoli and cheese,mashed potatoes and gravy candied yams,deviled eggs that i dont think any one ate,and all kinds of desserts.I didnt eat very much as wasnt feeling very good and not hungry.I did bring a small plate fixed up for tonight to eat.There was chocolate pie, which I ate a pc of and it was so good, and a lemon pie and two other kinds i dont remember what they were.There was plenty food to eat.I brought home several slices of turkey and ham, and fed some turkey to ms Blackie and snoopy.I will give them each a slice of ham later.Snoopy dont care much for ham, she loves turkey,and ms Blackie loves ham and will eat some turkey too, but her favorite is ham... hope every one had a wonderful Thanks giving day and Thank you for being my forum friend, too

Hi forum friends, since it's still before midnight... Happy Thanksgiving! I am exhausted but it was a good day.
We just had a small group, just my 3 children and my daughter-in-law and grandbaby, and of course DH and my mom. My stepchildren came over to visit later, but not to eat since they were stuffed full already. Zeus, Fat Cat Nemo and Lily all enjoyed their turkey too. I did all the cooking like I always do (because I enjoy it) but I hate the cleanup afterwards. I cooked a 20 lb. turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, butternut squash casserole and other assorted dishes. Finished it off later with homemade apple and pumpkin pies. My son and oldest daughter had to work today so our meal was in the evening and I'm still stuffed. It felt very festive here but more like Christmas because of the snow we got a couple of days ago. Everything is covered in white. South of here all they got was rain but we got lots of snow. Somewhere in my day I managed to escape for an hour to go see my Dad in the nursing home. I really missed his smiling face at the dinner table tonight....my Dad always raves about my cooking. I brought him some pumpkin pie and he made me happy by eating it all up with a smile.

I was so happy to come here tonight and see some of you checking in. I miss 'visiting' with you all. Rita, Ginny and Nancy...it was great to hear about your day. And dear Jean...I'm sorry you were feeling a little blue today. I wish I could send Zeus over there to snuggle up with you like he does me when I am feeling down. I hope Ms. Blackie & Snoopy are taking good care of you.

We just had our 2 sons for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, but such a nice day. My dinner sounds like everyone elses-Turkey & dressing, broccoli casserole, sweet potatoes, chocolate & pumpkin pies. Our big family dinner is hosted by my in-laws & is always after Thanksgiving, so I still have another day to enjoy :)
So nice to be able to check in & see how everyone did. I hope everyones' day went as well as mine. Nancy, it would be so hard to be that far away from your son's family, I'm glad you have this holiday together. I hope you are feeling better today Jean, I know the holidays can be depressing. We've gotten all that rain you were talking about, Celeste, snow would have felt so much more festive. Three days of heavy rains was starting to get me down. Hope Thanksgiving day went well for you, Ginny & Rita!
This has been such a good year for me. I think back to last Thanksgiving, I had just had my hip surgery & still pretty drugged up. I've had so much less pain this past year, I just need to get up the courage to do the other hip & knees now. My family is all doing well despite this economy, so I feel I have a lot to be thankful for.

Too much food but I always enjoy our turkey feast with family. Weather has turned really nice here for the next couple of days so spent some garden time outdoors yesterday and will be heading back out again today and tomorrow.
No Black Friday shopping for me. Next week it will turn to rain and snow again by mid-week so I'll enjoy the few days of warmer temps.
How many days until spring? ;-).

A beautiful day here today, sunny and warm for this time of the year. Turkey turned out fantastic, juicy and tender and tasted so great! Lots of yummy side dishes too but there is so much leftovers that I am going to be having turkey and leftovers into next week. Nice to see those of you that checked in. If you haven't yet then just join in! Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

I'm pooped but very thankful as well. I always overcook...DH and I are vegetarians, as is one of my 15 YO DGDs. She actually came to my house Tuesday and spent two nights with us. An unusual pleasure, and she chose to spend Thanksgiving with us rather than travel and spend Thanksgiving with the rest of her family. (she said she can eat everything at my house and nowhere else.) I am very proud of her for deciding on her own to be a vegetarian two years ago and sticking with it.

I do cook turkey for the non-vegetarians, and a product made for us that has the consistency of turkey. Since I live in the deep south, we have cornbread dressing rather than stuffing, Sweet potato casserole, (similar to yams) turnip greens, mashed potatoes, potato salad, Ambrosia, little baked (not fries) peach pies, Black Forest Cherry pie, Coconut pie, and several varieties of Jello jigglers with Cool whip for the grandsons (and their father.) Also, there were fruit and nut cookies to have and to share with neighbors. Our table had just our son, his wife, and their 5 children, the DGD, and DH and I.

Christine, I miss having my parents at my table, so I am glad you were able to see your dad.

We will be eating leftovers too which is just fine with me.

I am so thankful for all of you forum friends, for my family, for retirement, and the comfortable lifestyle we are blessed to enjoy.

I am also thankful for fascinating hobbies. Bless each of you and your families.

Today I saw the first of the Holiday Salvation Army Santas and Kettles that they always do for the holidays. Since I have been thinking of how thankful I am for my happy life and always having plenty of food while there are many that do not have enough, I had to donate already.

Today I just bought myself lots of potato salad to go with my leftover turkey. And turkey and fixings leftovers is fine by me also. In fact stuffing and turkey with gravy heated up sounds like a great idea right now to me.

Yams and sweet potatoes are about the same thing. I baked mine, wrapped in foil and just added some butter and mashed them after pulling off the skin.

Sounds like everyone was able to enjoy and be thankful, not to mention full!! I went to Pittsburgh to be with my son and his new wife, they just got married last month!! I have spent Thanksgiving with my son for the past few years, he does usually all the cooking. I too am a Vegetarian, Kay, so your dinner sounds yummy!! But there is always plenty to eat on Thanksgiving no matter what. My son makes a vegetarian stuffing, and I fill up on all the sides --not to mention dessert. I make a few things to take, cranberry /orange sauce and pumpkin roll. My daughter and her boyfriend join us there. So it is very nice. We were able to look through all 904 wedding pictures. My daughter and her boyfriend are professional photographers and took the pictures, it was super special. I always enjoy Thanksgiving and am very thankful for my family and for my forum friends. Gardening is truly a blessing. No shopping for me!! I was able to garden for several hours when I got home today. It was like a nice warm spring day! Tomorrow promises to be just as nice, so I will finish up closing the garden, hoping for spring to be early. :)

ngraham, while I was reading everyone's post about their dinners and what they were thankful for I was alternating a heating pad between my legs, back and hip (result of back surgery gone bad a couple of years ago) and complaining to myself. Your health issues make me ashamed of myself for moaning & groaning. I immediately called my sister who had hip surgery this past spring to tell her about you and remind her that we have so much to be thankful for.

I enjoyed all the other posts and the menus. I could really enjoy some of your leftovers now. My 2 sons, granddaughter, DH and I went to Cracker Barrel. Good food, no standing on my feet cooking BUT no leftovers to munch on.
