BM Regal paint for bathroom? Paint and primer question.
Comments (12)Shee & Co., Sorry it took me a while to get back to this.... Skewing: I shouldn't have mentioned this goofy little point, but now it's out there! It's only relevant in a few "Real-life" scenarios. It mainly pertains (to ME anyway...) paint applied too thinly, therefore revealing a hint of the primer color. * Example: If someone uses a "pink" primer under Burgundy, the whole paintjob can appear too light, 'cuz the primer is too white. * To ME...Gray is more appropriate, 'cuz it alters deep colors the "least", if paint is applied too thin. * Gray primer has its limits though! If you're painting a vivid "Lemon Yellow" or "Basketball Orange", THEN you'd need a primer that's almost the final paint color! A medium-gray primer COULD give a grayish-cast to bright, vivid tones. Curing/Bathroom use: * Sorry Shee.....you'll have to smell for a month.........;-) * JUST KIDDING! * After 2nd paint coat has dried for a day, use bathroom as normal. It needs that 24hrs. to get the initial surface-dry so steam doesn't re-soften the paint slightly. * "Full Cure-Out" mainly refers to the complete dry-thru/hardening of the applied film...SO IT'S WASHABLE. "Sweeping": * If you're working L-to-R, the RIGHT edge of a "swept" section will be the wettest. * Therefore, you're OK to slightly work into this section. When sweeping your 2nd column, start from its left edge, overlapping into 1st column slightly. * Ease-off the pressure on your rollers left side just a hair when overlapping a previous sections' final sweep. Comments (5)I really don't think there is such a thing as a mildew resistant primer and this makes sense to me as being something that is not needed because mildew will not grow on primer. The primer is under the paint that you use as a topcoat so when will primer ever be exposed to moisture? In order for mildew to grow, moisture is required. I think the recipe for getting your paint to hold up nice in a high moisture environment is using high quality products like a top line primer and a top line paint. You can add a packet of mildewcide to whatever paint you choose to use as a topcoat which should make it resistant to mildew or you can buy Zinnsers Bathroom Paint which already has that added. I'm sure other paints have mildewcide in it already too. I like hot showers too and I have a shower in a very old house with a painted ceiling in it. It's holding up great for 7 years now and I never even used mildewcide. I guess if you can have a bathroom where moisture doesn't sit around for long periods (it dries completely after each shower) then you will be good....See Moreis this what painted bathroom cabinets are supposed to look like?
Comments (4)yayagal - you did Aura on bathroom cabinets? Are they holding up well with moisture? I can't imagine how long it would take her to get all the paint off of these now. So a finish sanding would make it smoother and then you do another coat on top of that? Dang, wish I didn't have such a bum arm and could do this stuff myself but just the prep I've been doing for the painting projects has been more than I can handle....See MoreWhat color paint for bathroom?
Comments (1)Nothing would be "wrong" with any color(s) you choose, either one color for the entire house or a different color for different rooms. It's all personal preference. Painting every room antique white would not be my personal choice. I love color. But if you love it go for it....See MoreFaron79
