What you doing today?

It's sunny and heading to 75 in South East Wisconsin. Had hubby pick up the carpet shampooer last night and I'm shampoo - ing today. Windows are open, cats are so enjoying the fresh air and are lounging in the sills.

After that, taking all the winter cardboard, personal documents etc. and heading to the burn pile. We save everything for days like this and burn. How about you? Are you having a good productive day?

I plan to make cabbage soup, and use up all the left over vegetables--a few carrots, scallions, potatoes, celery, etc. We don't eat enough vegetables, so soups are one of my solutions to that.

But I am also hungry for cold meatloaf sandwiches, which means I have to make the meatloaf first! And buy some nice, fresh bread.

I am happy. Went and talked to the owner of a little mom and pop cafe I go to. He gets a lot of regular trade on weekends. I explained my dilemma, Said I didn't want to ruffle feathers but wanted to keep it simple and not have to plan a menu etc. We compromised on the time so things would be a bit slower. Everyone can order whatever they want from the full menu. I offered to figure in the money each person would owe at the end of the meal but he said they could easily split the check with the system they have in place. Yay! I am limiting the number of attendees to what they can handle. The number is just a few people under the maximum we normally get anyway. I stated it clearly on the announcement so now we will see what happens. Came home, typed up the details and sent it out. Done.

Yesterday: DH realized his drivers license was missing, freaking out commenced. :0) We drove to two commercial buildings he'd had to get a security badge to enter. Being Saturday, people manning the front desk were off, no one to ask if they'd found his license, me driving...him...going crazy. lol He finally found it at home, in the scanner. Ran errands. Rented a movie(The Girl On The Train) @ the library. Went to REI, then Dicks Sporting Goods & purchased Yeti mugs w/ handles. REI was out of black ones & handles. Grocery shopped. Purchased rib-eye steaks. Grilled those for dinner, before the snow storm hit. Answered a CL ad, in a nearby town 37 minutes one way, for a FREE wrought iron gate. Had to use GPS to find it, one of those up-in-the-woods custom housing developments. He said he wouldn't hold it & would take the ad down when gone. Got there, no gate, ad was down, went home. Checked my email, he said "where are you?" Drove ALL the way back, he WAS HOLDING IT FOR US....really nice guy! Gate is perfect! It's an unusual size...it's six feet tall, four feet wide.

I've been at a Hearing Loss convention since Wednesday evening. Most of it wasn't very relevant to my lifestyle. I was hoping for a lot more focus on technological advances today. Not stuff that is already old hat to me. Not people trying to sell their procduct There was on speaker that was great though. The only one who didn't bore me to wanting to do a face plant into my water. I had a two hour trail ride booked for Sat. I got a good horse. But the wrangler was an idiot (IMO). No horsemanship. A wanna be cowboy without the ethics. Gave advice contrary to the the thing I do know. Since I was at the back I rode my way. My horse appreciated it. I told them ahead of time I rode with mostly English tack. Guess who was giving the reining horse? LOL At the end I tipped him as is the norm and casually mentioned that telling people to do a certain action was bad for a horse's back. I gave him an alternative to consider. He said that his way was the way the real cowboys did it and I should watch some old westerns and I would see. ROTFLOMAO I just smiled and thanked him for the ride. I didn't care much for the way he slapped his horse around to move it on the ground also. It wasn't outright abuse but it was super crappy horsemanship. Won't go back there. I had the banquet that night and was exhausted. Of all the places to hold this thing they chose an area that goes into triple digits this time of year. Plus it a tourist area that has only about a day or at most 2 days of things to see. Parking is outrageous. Their hotel charged 35 dollars a day. I stayed elsewhere and parked in the same lot for 10 dollars. Friday and yesterday the lot was full so I had to park at the other end of this tourist hellhole and walk the length back and forth. I'm glad to be home. Sleep in my own bed and ride tomorrow.

It was relatively "warm" (high 40's) yesterday and today. Took 2 mile walks both days. I finished cleaning up the flower gardens - I'd waited until the birds had picked the coneflowers and beebalm clean - and then repotted and root pruned nearly all of my potted fruit trees; still have 2 to do, but I ran out of soil. Managed to lose my pruners, too, wondering if I dropped them into a pot before replacing the tree. Sold my indoor bike trainer which I had never ever set up. I had imagined using it while I watched a movie or even a bike race on TV, but I much prefer the elliptical for indoors, and walking or jogging outside weather permitting best of all. Plus my DD left her small lifecycle also when she moved out. I am hoping that I remembered what I paid for it correctly - I think I sold it for the same price. As long as I never find the receipt I will be content! Last thing today was hanging most of the Christmas lights and set up an artificial tree and put lights on it, on the front porch. I didn't get that all finished - I think I need another strand of lights on it, and didn't get the few glittery ornaments on it. I'll do that tomorrow if it is not raining hard. I'll put up the hanging stars on the porch and in the windows closer to the holiday.

I'm not feeling that great, but this morning I caught up on phone calls, and now I'm outside with the dogs. I am alternating between picking away at the weeding and sitting on the patio. It's so nice to be able to sit out here. I'm trying to get the steam up to head to the grocery store.

Not productive at all. Went to Weight Watchers meetings (I'm 33 pounds lighter than I was last year this time!). Then I went to Goodwill and wanted to use a coupon for salad at McDonalds - but it was only 10:30. I remembered there was a place where 2 houses torn down back the road and since I had the metal detector - almost 2 hours, 3 cents and a lot of scrap later, I made it to McDonalds.
I need to get busy!!

Doing the first real work of the season in the garden - pulling weeds, in particular Shotweed. I picked three 5gl. bucketfuls awhile ago and finally had to stop because I got so tired. My back and legs will be killing me tomorrow. Will sit down with a pot of Lady Grey tea around 3pm. Maybe I'll make a quick trip to the bakery for something good to go with it.

my Aunt turns 90 next month and her daughter is giving her a birthday party and making up a recipe booklet for her from all kinds of family members...I've written them out and jotted down some memories and now must head to the post office!

After that I'm fixin to put on junky clothes and give my car a thorough vacumning and a good washing!

I had a fun filled day shopping with Cheryl, Amber and Alyssa. I shopped in Goodwill and bought a very cute pop up pink princess castle tent for Alyssa and some really pretty shower hooks for my bathroom. They are in the shape of dogwood blossoms. I got my senior discount and I also used my Goodwill Reward's card for the first time and I got another $2.00 off, so I spent a total of $2.36 including the tax. We had lunch at Bob Evan's. I had the soup and salad combo and iced tea. I had the baked potato soup. I also had cherry bread with my meal but did not eat it. I sent it home with Amber. We then shopped for groceries in Meijer. Nice strawberries again this week for a dollar a pound. Not the best bargains this week but I did get some sliced boneless pork loin for $2.49 a pound. Now I am home and think Izzi and I might take a big rig ride. Great weather now 80 outside.

I got my hair cut this morning. I stopped coloring it a few months ago and now the gray and white are really showing. This afternoon I have my sweet little guy here. He is almost 18 months now. He has been asleep for 2 /12 hours. I was hoping to take him for a walk with the stroller but his dad will pick him up soon.

It's a sunny 83 degrees here today and I am going out to finish planting the garden. I have spent the past week trying to get everything planted. Oh, my aching leg! But, I shall persevere and finish it today. The fruit trees are covered in blossoms, the orange blossoms are perfuming the entire yard and the fig is already putting out tiny green figs. I think Spring is here!

Spent it recovering from gastric problems after taking a new antibiotic. Got dehydrated and missed work again.

I hauled a load of stuff to my house, went to work, took another load to the house... then drove to my storage unit and got some "delicate" stuff out, and hauled it over to the house before coming home for soup, shower, and internet. :)

I was awakened by a call at the gate from tree guys from the power company to remove dead trees from last years drought. The work order was placed last November. They spent all day removing random trees. They left dead ones next to the power lines and cut others nowhere near the lines. So, I spent the day walking dogs on the leash trying to make them go potty! They did leave at 5:00 on the dot!
