I think that blue can actually be gloomy unless chosen very very carefully. And that it is maybe the most difficult color to choose well. You will need to use a warm color to achieve the "feel" that you want. A warm gray would actually work better than a blue in my opinion. Suggest you take some photos of the carpet, wood, and any fabrics on the chairs, and then paste them into one of the paint manufacturer's websites and look at various colors with your existing elements. Some colors I have used you may want to look at are Pashmina and Chelsea Gray by BM, and Kestral White by SW. Oh, and congrats on earning the office!

Adding a rug to the floor is not going to fix what's wrong with this area. Please look at the revised layout and the art that has been added to the wall. This layout works better and the art picks up the color of the accent chairs. Is that really a trophy on the bookshelf:? How amount a lamp instead?

That's a nice built in bookcase. Don't paint it just yet- but for sure clean it up and declutter it. Part of the reason it's driving you nuts is that you have been collecting junk instead of being organized, and it shows. Once it's cleaned up- plan on a couple of those sections being dedicated to guest goodies- towels, toiletries, ect. You don't need to replace the floor just yet either- but yes, a nice big rug will help that floor out a lot. Are you planning on keeping the desk area in there too, or is that being moved out? If you are keeping the office stuff, then a nice convertible couch/sleeper sofa will probably work better than a regular bed or a daybed. If you want that room to serve for changing, then you will need to do something waterproof for the floor- take out the office stuff and a more casual daybed scenario might be best. If you have guests sleep over on the regular, then do consider making that a fully dedicated bedroom space with a real bed- no changing room or office action if you go this route.

Sometimes it takes more eyes 😊😊 We enjoy this cozy space so far, where we hadn’t before. I know it’s very hard looking at pictures. But it does look so inviting in person, especially when you walk in the front door or just having the front door open in general. So far I’ve heard many ‘gee. It’s so CALM in here’ comments ☺️ Definitely will not be a TV in here, as the very large upstairs is the ‘cave’ if you will. Well, I’m just sitting around reading a book, having coffee and talking. I’m excited to get going on getting the floors and the walls done and searching for a smaller unit for that wall.
