Remember the 'Shoes' debates? Look what GW did...

Created a slide show about it. I was browsing forums and realized I've never visited "Entertaining" forum here, and that's where I found it.

Very interesting. Personally, I don't mind taking my shoes off in winter and/or bad weather, especially at a good friend's home. Probably because I'm very comfortable in their home and no one is judging me by what I wear. I am very likely to curl up on the sofa. At the home of an acquantaince and/or at a large party, I may be offended by the request. In summer I usually do not take my shoes off unless it's a pool party. I never request that anyone, including snow clad boot wearing adults to remove their footware. I do clean/dry the floor after they leave. I believe that if I invited them in to my home, it is my responsibility to accomodate them and clean up after. If I had children and their friends came over, I would probably request that they all remove their footware in bad weather.

Wow Jane !! You racked up :>) Very nice finds. Let me tell ya'll something else I found out about Goodwill today. David and I had gone to a little restaurant in town to eat lunch and there's a Goodwill store next door to it that I had never been in. Went in and looked around, and found a really cute little soup tureen with oak leaves and acorns on it and the gravy boat to match. Both were from Home Goods. Since we don't have a Home Goods store here, I assume they were ordered from a catalog ? The tureen was $3.00 and the gravy boat was $2.99. Well then I spotted this gorgeous set of china. It was a fully complete service for 12 and it was $30.00 ! I didn't want to spend that much with the dish Nazi with me :>( While I was paying for the tureen and gravy boast, I jokingly told the cashier that if she would come down on that set of china I would buy it. She told me to show her which set I was talking about and if it had been there longer than 7 days, she could go down on the price ! I got the tureen,gravy boat and china for a grand total of $21.78 !!! So, the next time you're in Goodwill, ask if they do the same thing. All they can tell you is "no,we don't", and if they do, then you don't have to wait until half off days !! Susan

I don't really remember, other than a couple of pairs that matched specific outfits. That was back when we bought 'outfits', we couldn't wear pants (certainly not jeans). I babysat for most of my clothes money. There was a dress code, a minimum length for skirts. My first year out of high school I worked part time in a forestry office while going to Jr College (it was Weyco) and they still had a dress code, not even matching jackets/pantsuits were allowed. I was scolded for culottes (aka split skirt) (knee length and with stockings) when I showed up for the afternoon after attending classes. The head forester, crabby old guy ;) I see his son occasionally now and I shared with him that his dad had read me the riot act for being inappropriately dressed (he had also said disrespectfully dressed) and he really laughed, enjoyed hearing a story about long ago (1968) since his dad passed several years back, thanked me for telling him. I often think about squirrel and her photoshop generosity. I think she decided to turn her skill into a business. I hope it worked out. There was a poster that lived in AZ and had health issues. (Eileen?) Her posts were very polarizing but I occasionally wonder if she is well. It's interesting that some people seem to get obsessed with this site, post like crazy, bare their soul and then vanish.

I am not sure why the cultural aspect of this issue wasn't touched upon. Shoes are not worn in homes in many Eastern European countries and it would be disrespectful to leave them on.
