aww, rhome, I'm sorry. The mirror surface took me by surprise too. You can't see the fingerprints from a distance, but I do notice them up close. Of course everything in my kitchen is brand new and pristine, so I notice every speck of dust. I'm sure that won't last for very long!

And I totally understand that you're not insulting my choice. All things being equal, this model is a lot more modern-looking than I would have chosen, but it really does match my cooktop. I still could have gotten the older model at a really low close-out price, but I had my heart set on the gliding racks.

erika... I think they look absolutely beautiful in your kitchen. I love the handles, knobs, and the racks must be great.

rhome... they may be reflective; but I think they're going to look great. Depending on how your window placement differs and the amount of light coming in; it may not be as reflective 24/7. I don't know if it impacts it; but since the cab run is darker then erika's it may absorb more light. I have a feeling you're going to end up loving them way more then you think!

Oh my! Yes, they are a very different look than the picture at the beginning of the post, but I think they're gorgeous. Keep in mind that your ovens won't have an adjacent wall like Erika's so may not seem so reflective? I do think you'll be happy with them, though. (They're just so cool!)

I have a window straight across from the oven, so probably will get quite a bit of light on mine, too...But I was thinking that maybe the mirror finish will help them look silvery and then connect better with the stainless and grays in my kitchen. I do think they look really cool in Erika's kitchen...Such clean lines to them, which is perfect in there. Like I've tried to tell myself this whole time (when I remember), I'll just have to trust that they're going to be a blessing that I couldn't have planned for. Erika likes the racks better (and she's seen both), so that's an improvement to look forward to right there.

erikanh, those ovens look amazing! I liked them based on the first photos posted above, but they look even nicer "in person" to my eye, and look far more expensive than they are.

rhome, I think they will look right at home in your kitchen. And I don't know if your stainless is like my stainless, but it is difficult, if not impossible, to keep it looking pristine. Actually, I gave up on pristine a looong time ago. That reflective glass will probably always look new with a quick spray and wipe : )

erika - your ovens look great! They are pretty modern, but I like the straight lines and simplistic look. I am soooo craving more pics of your kitchen!

rhome - stay positive! I know everything will work out and you'll get the extra blessing you deserve :)

That official photo is pretty misleading, isn't it? But I think they're going to look great! They're more silvery than black, so I think it will go well with the ss counters and stand out less than the stark black.

I am over my shock and really anticipating their installation more than ever now. I can't be sure if they'll look silvery, or if Erika's white cabinets are making them look that way. Maybe they'll look different in every kitchen. That could be fun.

I still have a feeling, though, that I'll have to start a strong training program in keeping doughy and greasy hands on the handle and knobs, and, hopefully, off the glass!...

Update:

Oven was supposed to be installed Monday, but one of the installers was sick, so it was rescheduled for today.

Today: One guy showed up early and took apart the old oven (took off doors, took out racks, pulled oven partially out of the cabinet) while waiting for the other guy to show up with the cart to move the ovens and the new oven. The 2nd guy gets here, and calls the 1st guy out 'to have a look at something.' I cringe, waiting for the bad news, but he says the lower oven door has a couple scratches and they'll need to order a new one. OK, no big deal, and the old oven is out and on the cart to be wheeled away.

Then the 2nd guy brings in one of the doors....And it looks identical to my old ones! THEY SENT THE WRONG OVEN. The older style instead of the new one...You know, the one they didn't have any more of. ;-) Quick call to F&P, and they said, 'Yep, we sent the wrong one, so refuse delivery and we'll start over.' AAARGH.

I wished I could tell them just to leave the old oven out, but a week or so to wait for the oven, then another week or more to schedule 2 guys to install would be too long to go without baking. So they had to reinstall the old oven and they drove away. :-\

Interesting info I heard while chatting with the first gentleman while we waited for the 2nd. According to him, Bosch was the first to put blue inside their ovens and have a patent on a certain process or porcelain to make it work. He says Bosch is the only oven he hasn't seen have the chipping problem with the blue porcelain interior. He has replaced other Fisher & Paykel ovens, and had to take apart Wolf ranges to replace the oven cavities.

More later as my oven saga continues...Hopefully for not much longer!

Whoa, rhome410. This is quite the saga. Every time I see a new post I eagerly open the thread hoping for photos of the new ovens installed and your feeling about them!! I feel for you... this is a long time to have this unfinished detail/worry. hang in there!! (and I also love Erika's pics, can't wait to see them in your room too!)

AAARRRGGGGG! thank goodness you were able to get them to reinstall the old ones. Wow, I'm concerned about the whole blue porcelain issue. I've just had my kitchenaid doubles installed and they have that interior - fingers crossed. thanks for the update - I've been dying for the new pictures!

Awww rhome! That's an annoying delay. =( Did they give you any idea how long you'll have to wait for the new ones?

frankoma posted earlier that the glass may be easier to keep clean than stainless steel, and so far that's what I'm finding. My old Bosch SS dishwasher always looked dirty. I'm finding that the glass front on the ovens does show fingerprints, but they're much easier to clean with just a quick wipe than the buffing with SS cleaner that my dishwasher required to look decent.

Oh nuts... I clicked on this excited to see rhome's new ovens in her lovely cabinets! Tune in next week...

I just told Malhgold that maybe they're trying to make sure that I'll be so relieved to have it finally in and taken care of that I won't care how it looks! ...AND I just told my sister that part of the problem I had with this, initially, is that I got to choose every little part of my kitchen and now I'd have ovens that I got by chance. Well, they seem to be making me choose this new one over and over again. :-)

Sob, sniff, sniff....Will I EVER get my new oven?!

First appointment time came and one of the guys was sick.

2nd appointment they showed up, but had the wrong oven.

Then there was a long wait while the installers and F&P fought about compensation for doing the install, basically, twice. Finally got that sorted out and waited for the new oven to be delivered to the installers, and appointment made for today. My kids said, "You mean maybe we'll get our new oven on Friday."

After a fitful night's sleep I got up early to await the installer's phone call (for specific time of arrival) and prep for the big event. I was getting so excited to really have the oven. Call came. One of the guys has a hurt back...Now new appointment for Tuesday.

Maybe the 4th time will do it? Will they actually get here with the right oven and have it be in operable condition? I can no longer count on any of it...

Not exactly big in the scope of possible life problems, but it's getting old...

Just thought I'd let you know what was up...At least Elyse, who I know was waiting for today's photos. ;-)

OH nuts rhome... I'm so disappointed for you. You, if anyone, who puts so much of their life into hearth and home deserves their ovens! Even though I always tell my kids (school kids) that we live in a no "that's not fair" zone; I'm gonna scream for you anyway... THAT'S NOT FAIR! There... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Thanks for the support. We will still have the pizzas...Just not out of the shiny (very shiny) new oven! This has certainly all worked to change my attitude from disappointment to acceptance to 'I do want the new oven style' to 'I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM IN!' That'll teach me for being picky in the first place. ;-D

Awww, Rhome...how frustrating.
My oven was having sympathy pangs for you today-one of the switches for the oven has a glitch, and it doesn't get up to temp occasionally unless you wiggle the switch, but in our case, we can't be too picky since we bought it used off craigslist. The bread did eventually get done, and still in time for lunch.
Do you make homemade pizza for your pizza nights? I hope the fourth time's the charm, and your NEW, beautiful oven is in and working on Tuesday. I think you should see if they will pick up the tab for you to take your whole family out for a meal, just for all the delays you have put up with.

Well, see then, I can't really complain, because at least my current ovens do work...and no wiggling necessary. ;-) Yep, we do homemade pizza. We used to buy the 'we make it, you bake it' kind occasionally, but haven't once since we moved in! It's too fun, easy, and yummy to make our own. My almost 20 yr old son actually turned down a social invitation that was at dinner time on a Friday night, because he didn't want to miss out on 'Pizza Night!' He left after the pizza. :-D

I'm sorry you didn't get a new oven for your Easter dinner (or pizza night!) but hope Tuesday finally works out.

I have to tell you that I hope you're going to be as happy with your new ovens as I have been so far. The glass is very easy to keep clean -- much easier than my old stainless steel Bosch dishwasher was -- and it really is showstopping-ly pretty. I've never had a convection oven so it's taken me some time to get used to adjusting cooking times. Shiny pans don't seem to brown my pizza crusts as well as I'd like, need to get some darker ones. The fan is quiet and the self-clean worked really well (course my oven wasn't very dirty).

I'd love to learn how to bake bread, my DD especially loves bread. Do you have a bread machine?

Keeping my fingers crossed. I have the feeling that Tuesday will be the day for sure!

I might scream at someone...but I can't figure out how it would change anything, so no use using the energy.

This is all part of my lesson from Above in patience...I learned a lot in the building process. When you're building a house (more precisely, when your also-working husband is building the house with an all-kid crew and his motto is: "It'll get done when it gets done"), IF you don't kill him for saying that, you either learn patience, go crazy, or die of some stress-related heart condition! If I survived that, I can probably survive the oven wait...Maybe. ;)

I think as long as your self-clean worked and didn't blow a fuse in the oven, you're ahead of one of the older oven models. (before mine) But I'm glad you love it and am now very much looking forward to having mine.

I don't use pizza pans any more after discovering the pizza stone...Just that and some parchment paper. The pizzas cook so much faster and with a better result.

We have a bread machine, but I can't remember the last time we used it. It only makes one loaf and I usually bake 4 - 6 at a time...And the first 2 are usually gone before they're cool.

It probably will come Tuesday -late Tuesday- since I won't be home from Wednesday through Saturday--So that means I can finally have it, because it's at a time when I still don't get to admire and use it for days!

Mini pizzas (we usually do big ones that cover most of the stone, but individual ones are a treat-- everyone dresses their own. But I had no photos of the big ones.):

What I do use instead of a bread machine is a Bosch Universal (bread) mixer. I also have a wonderful Kitchen Aid mixer, but it could handle only enough dough for 2 loaves. The 5-minute Artisan bread doesn't need a mixer, or kneading. I buy very little bread anymore. We have a grain mill and the big mixer, so it's not too hard to make our own, and everyone likes it better. And I like that we're eating fresh, whole grain...Now I sound like a bad TV commercial.

Rhome, I'm so sorry that your ovens aren't there yet! But now I am distracted by that gorgoeus 5 minute bread and *knead* to know more about it :-) Recipe sharing??

Oh Rhome, everytime I see this thread get bumped up I get all excited and start thinking "it's here, it's here!" the whole time it takes to load up this thread. Rats, I'm dying to see those new racks in action and to get a review on them.

Wow, I watched the video - I love the idea of keeping dough for up to 2 weeks in the fridge!! I was hopeful that I'd have to build an extension to the house, in order to accomodate a big baker's table - darn, no kneading.

Do you toss water into the bottom of your ovens?? I've never done that

Your bread and pizza look so delicious! I have the 5 minute artisan book checked out from the library right now, and hopefully will get a chance to try some of the recipes soon.
We use a grain mill and a bosch for our everyday bread baking, too-it is so easy that it is usually my 13 year old daughter or my 14 year son that makes the bread.

I'm working on learning patience, too-the baby we were expecting when we started remodeling the kitchen is 20 months old, and the race is on to get this kitchen DONE before our next baby arrives in May. :-) I love seeing other people's kitchen finished (or almost) and in use-there is hope!

Oooh, Chloe_s_mom, I would advise against throwing water in the bottom of your oven, but instead, put something like a broiler pan in there while you preheat, then pour the water into that. I think that's what they do on the video.

Sorry, Alku05...If you read above, Erika raves about loving her oven racks, so I have hope I will, too. I thought it was going to be a race to see who had theirs in and going first, but now she'll have about a month on me.

I don't really use the 5-minute recipe for pizza crust, Timber.j. But I do use the cloaking technique now for about every bread product I make. I don't really do the 5-minute thing much, because I don't plan far enough in advance! It has longer rising time than my usual recipes. Also, I haven't tried any of the other recipes, so hope to use it more as I delve into it further. It's just easier right now to do the recipes I know in my head. (My 'baby' was expected or newborn when we started the process of selling our house/drawing plans/buying property, not yet 2 when we moved into the single wide mobile home on the property, and is now 5!! Time flies and the little ones, who get big way too fast, are reminders of how much it does. Sounds like we'll be seeing photos of both a new kitchen and new baby from your house soon!)

Hmm, watched the video again - looks like a water toss. I'm not going to risk it. They don't say how long to cook the bread for, but hey, living on the edge here (ahhahah!). Actually, I've ordered the book but am too impatient and am trying out the bread recipe based on the video. I'll go look for a suitable pan to put the water in :)

I think that's a different video than I first saw. In the first one, they mentioned putting a shallow pan on the bottom rack in its lowest position, then pouring the water in there. I'm glad you decided to use a pan. You can damage the lining in your oven by throwing cold water directly in the bottom...After the problems I've had with the porcelain in the oven, I wouldn't risk it. And that wouldn't be covered by a warranty.

Can't wait to hear how your bread turns out. I have to warn you that you'll probably think you're overcooking your bread before it's time is up, but just leave it in and let it get that great crust.

Munching on the bread now. I opted to make two small loaves and put the rest (covered) in the fridge. Very good. Baked it for 20? 25? 30? mins - can't remember, as I was trying to referee the two kids and accept delivery of the new couch at the same time.

Actually, it was the second half of our new sectional! the first part arrived after a 3+ mnth wait, last week, with the chaise portion MIA. I've had my eye on this couch for a couple of years, and decided to take advantage of boxing day sales! My biggest criteria? Cushions that couldn't easily be removed. When I'm not stepping on a cat or a toy, I seem to be picking up cushions. Chloe has just managed to spill a full cup of milk on it, and then accuse me sternly of not putting the lid on tightly enough.

Glad that I didn't throw caution to the wind and soak my oven - though I was thinking a bit earlier today, gee a 6 burner range would be soooooo nice....ha!

Don't you love how, at such early ages, they learn to scold us for our carelessness? ;-) I have a similar sounding oldest dd. A very strong (AKA 'bossy') and driven person...now 21 and a junior in college.

I think it works best to kind of walk beside this kind. Try to make rules or plans for them and they just push back and try the opposite...At least that was the way with mine. But now she talks to me about EVERYthing and we are great friends as well as mother and daughter.

(the bread was a hit, by the way - made two small loaves, and put the rest in the fridge. To my surprise, the left over dough seems to be puffing up, despite being in the fridge. Hopefully it won't take over the whole fridge by morning)

I have given the artisan bread book to so many friends as gifts... pretty cool, huh? Do you guys have a special container to keep the dough in in the fridge? I bought one of the ones they recommended, but there's no convenient way to keep the lid ajar. I would love to see other people's solutions! I have not made the bread since we moved into this house (Halloween) because the fridge was so small. I am a little nervous that my new CD FD Jenn Air won't have enough room, either! (Never had a CD fridge before.)

You just made me remember that I have a bread tupperware container (for traditional shaped loaves) - I bet that would work! and it could be stored on its side or upright

Any good way to store already made bread to keep a nice crust? I bought a bread bag - it is okay, but goodness knows where it is hiding in this house.

Stacey, I think somewhere I saw or read that covering loosely with plastic wrap works, so no lid to fight with.

Chloe's mom, I've always heard the paper bags are best for keeping a crust on French or Artisan breads.

In our house, I don't end up storing either the dough or the finished bread! :-)

Rhome- I've been following this thread and sympathizing with your plight, but haven't posted yet. Today I was shopping for appliances with my SIL and I saw your new oven in person. It is just beautiful! The pics don't do it enough justice. The racks move so smoothly- I fell in love with it too! Puts my poor Kenmore to shame.
